There were small joys of being a teacher, and it was clear that she was not the only person who thought that as Hannah explained exactly the same feelings as her. The pay might not have been amazing and you were locked in the same castles for around 9 months with the students, but there were the odd one or two that made it all worthwhile. When you look at it that way it would be no surprise that most the professors end up having affairs and relationships, she would never have met Dan if it was not for this job and that was something she dared not think about.
“Good.” Dia smiled as Hannah agreed to the prospect of doing another joint lesson. There were many advantages of doing the shared lesson and Hannah, on closer acquaintance, was a very nice person and not what you would expect from the Head of Slytherin house. It was clear that the mood in the staff room had improved ever to slightly but it would not last for long, not after Hannah asked Dia is she was okay. This took her slightly by surprise as clearly she had not been hiding her own emotions that well and she tried to stop herself from saying anything, there would be no point as it would do nothing but make herself feel bad but as Dia looked on at Hannah she could not help but feel guilty. Hannah had opened up to her and what she had to say was serious so why could she not open up to her? Before she could stop herself however her worries were spoken out loud.
“Ever since he came back to me that morning and told me cheated I…how can I ever trust him again?” Dia’s voice cracked and wavered as she could not even believe the words that were escaping her. She loved her husband, she had forgiven him for the incident with Quinn but it was Dan, he did after all have a notorious reputation. These were all the thoughts that she had always kept to herself and she had no idea why it was all coming out now. After a simple passing statement about Will and Dan she had been through completely off kilter and the problem was now the floodgates were open.
“Every night he comes back with the scent of someone else’s perfume on his jacket and I know it is most likely someone he was standing close to in the lift at the Ministry but…still…there is that doubt in the back of my mind and I hate myself for it.”
Her hand nervously fiddled with the gold wedding ring on her finger, it was a habit she had developed every time she thought of Dan. It was almost an act of indecision not knowing whether to leave the ring on or take it off. Her eyes were glazed over as she was lost in thought; a million butterflies were fluttering in her stomach as she tried desperately too keep her breathing steady.
“I just don’t think I can go on without him, I love him so much…” Her normal cool composure cracked and the tears broke through her closed eyelids that were clamped tightly shut. Taking a deep breath to compose herself she shock her head slightly in attempt to shake away this moment of weakness and then she slowly opened her eyes. A small smile filled her face to reassure Hannah that she was holding herself together. Dan’s pride was starting to rub off on her.
“We shall get through it, we always do.” It was time to go back to ignoring that doubt, she had spoken it out loud, and she knew how stupid she sounded so now all she would do is to take a deep breath and forget about it all. She believed in Dan and she believed that he would be loyal to her in the end. And that was the last that Dia wanted to talk about it, Hannah had come to her for help and here she was now crying into her tea cup because her husband works late hours and comes in contact with other women, it was so selfish of her. Lifting her tea cup to her lips she slowly sipped on the hot liquid giving herself time to compose herself once more.
“Men, who needs them?” She gave a small chuckle trying to act normal once more, like school girls sitting in the commonroom have a girly chat.
