Char blinked owlishly as he entered the thick cluster of trees. His wand perched behind his ear as his free hands held tightly onto a lantern that flourished light onto crooked branches. Stumbling over a mound of dirt, he exhaled slowly and took in his surroundings.
Not one to normally enter the forest, Char stared at the heart of the wood with awe. If it hadn’t been for that glimpse of a shadow – the small flicker of magic – he saw within the trees during a Care of Magical Creatures lesson, he’d probably have been sleeping away in his dorm that very moment.
Smiling a bit with bright eyes, Char lowered his lantern slightly and continued to walk in deeper, keeping a watchful eye out in case the shadow appeared again.

Bradyn gripped his wand tight as he made his way through the grounds, keeping to the shadows until he reached the forest. He stopped for a minute at the edge and took a deep breath. This, surprisingly, would be his first time inside the forest. It never appealed to him and it was something he avoided.
But, a dare was a dare and here he was, against his will, entering the unknown. "Lumos." He muttered to provide himself some light before he entered, minding his steps as to not make any noise to draw attention to himself. It wasn't as bad as he expected.. it was just a forest, with many hidden dangers. "no, don't think about that." He said to himself, but he stopped dead when he saw a light moving up ahead. What in the world could that be? He wondered, predicting the chances of it being dangerous.

Walking only paces behind his friend, Shafer couldn't help but smirk a little. Only hours ago had he dared his best mate to walk into the forest at night, and come back alive. He had to make it sound creepier then it already was, just to get Bray on his edge all night. But, in agreement, Shay was forced to follow along, just to even up the old scoreboard. He wasn't frightened of the forest, but simply weirded out by the rumors about it. Wand safely tucked into his pocket, he caught up with Bradyn, walking along side him.
"Scared, kitty-boy?" He mocked, his smirk growing wider. Seeing as he'd taken out his wand and provided the light, Shay saw no means in pulling his wand out and doing the same. It was all the more dark, that would scare his friend, he silently thought. "Come now, Bradyn. This isn't that bad is it? It's just a forest with creatures and who knows... Bray?" Turning around, he noticed Bray was frozen, paces behind him, looking at something. A light. Walking back to him, he couldn't help but wonder what was out there.

Char's harsh breathing slowed down and nearly stopped when his lantern caught a thick moving shadow coming toward him. His small smile flickered off his face at once as the danger of the situation finally caught up to him.
Tilting his head to one side, Char took a step forward while running a nervous hand through his hair. His fingers knocked the wand from behind his ear, reminding him of its existence, and Char scrambled to pick it up.
Before he managed to gain a good grip, a pair of feet appeared in the pool of light his lantern emitted. He wasn't sure any forest creatures wore the standard school shoes, so he smirked slightly to himself and shook his head.
"Thank Merlin it's only you," Char said slowly as he straightened into a standing position. "Whoever you are," he added with a grin that wasn't quite shaken of its relief.

Bradyn frowned and punched Shay in the arm. "I'm not scared, Tobias!" He said, trying to keep his voice strong to disguise his fears. But then he continued to raise his wand, recalling spells to stun his enemy if need be. Then he saw who it was.
A gryffindor he'd seen in a few of his classes... what was his name? "Char Hadley, what are you doing out here scaring the bajeezus out of people?" He frowned, then remembered that he was supposed to be not afraid and acted a little more macho. "And shouldn't we be the ones saying that?" Bray laughed, glad that it was a centaur.. or worse.

Char squinted into his light, vaguely recognizing the boy staring back at him. As soon as he realised it was Shay and Bradyn, his former excitement returned and he beamed. There was always safety in numbers, after all.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you,” Char said, smirking. He wiped off his muddy hands on his robes and sloshed his lantern toward the path he had been following. “If you want to know what I’m doing out here…” He trailed off as he began walking, the hood of his cloak rustling at the nape of his neck.
Turning back, he arched a brow. “You’ll have to see it to believe it.” Then, grinning a bit, he leaned in as if it were a secret that he couldn’t manage to keep. “But, I’ll tell you anyway.” He whispered.
Moving back, Char’s bright eyes scanned the small glimpse of forest illuminated by the candle. “I swear I saw a Hag around here, somewhere…”

Receiving the punch didn't bother him to much. But hearing his middle name, caused him to throw a punch back. "Shut up!" He demanded. "I'd rather be some weak little kitten then have my damned middle name.." He remarked, frowning.
The light seemed to grow more, which caused Shafer to reach for his pocketed-wand. A voice called out, and it sounded that of a student. And not something that would eat them. Not that Shay was scared. Noticing that Bray had called out to him by a name, he knew he'd heard the name before. Some one he'd probably seen in classes or in corridors, he reckoned.
Pondering on the name while the two were talking, he noticed the griffin on his cloak, and immediately knew who this 'Char Hadley' was. He was a Gryffindor in one of his classes. Shay had no hate towards him, just more of.. 'House Hate.' But he wasn't going to start something up in the forest. Who knows who-or what-might hear.
A thought then came to mind, as he remembered they were in the forest. Stepping a back a few steps, out of the little circle of light they were in, a mischievous smile grew on his face. It was only a matter of moments when they realized he was 'missing.' And it would be only a matter of moments his Slytherin-side would take over.

Felicity clutched her wand, her eyes darting back and forth. Stupid god-forsaken forest. Stupid bet. She clenched her teeth together. "Lumos." Fay muttered, trying to at least light her path. It seemed Fay had been sucked into yet another bet. This time made by another one of the haughtier students. Not like she had never been in the forest before -she had snuck out more than once- but it was just the fact that the students all thought she was a liar. Well, she would show them.
Upon hearing some voices though, Felicity stopped. She leaned forward slightly, trying to pinpoint who the voices belonged to. Maybe they weren't any creatures that were bent on her death and loved to see girls scream. Sadly, her imagination had gone wildly out of control...again.

Bray rolled his eyes and decided not to retaliate on the fact that they knew he was scarred a bit, but maybe it was natural to be afraid for your life in the Forbidden Forest. "Yeah, what are you doing here?" He said, getting interested in what excited Char so much. Bray closed the gap between them so he could see in Char's lantern light more. "Nox." He said quietly, and pocketed his wand.
Bray was definitely entranced, even if Char was more for tall-tales than for facts. "A hag?!" He said, rather loudly. Well, there was a possibility of it being true. He glanced at Shay to see his reaction, only to notice that he wasn't there. Did the hag eat him while they were talking? Bray turned around and heard someone else in the forest, this one with a lit wand, and he was pretty sure that Shay wasn't capable of a spell that difficult. "We're not alone." He said quietly to Char, hoping to be the one to scare him this time.

Char's eyes widened when a few twigs snapped. "It's... It's probably Shay," he said, though unconvincingly. "Where did he go, anyway? If there really is a hag in here and he's alone, he's dead. They eat children, you know." Char was vaguely aware that his voice had simmered down into a whisper as his eyes flickered back and forth to try and catch sight of anything unorthodox.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding." Char said, suddenly letting out an odd laugh. The arm holding out his lantern fell back to his side as the Felicity stalked up to them. "Well, she's no hag," he said with a smirk, "And no Shay for that matter, either."
He had to admit he was growing incredibly nervous but masked it with a bright smile. "Well, we should go look for him, I reckon..." Char began. There was no doubt they'd find much more along the way.

"Hag? Excuse me, do I look like a hag to you sir?" Felicity had finally caught up to the little group. She narrowed her eyes slightly, placing faces with names. Char and Bradyn. Atleast she knew these people. Fay quickly muttered 'Nox', and crossed her arms across her chest.
"Now what are you two boys doing out here at night hmm? It's not safe you know." Felicity left out the nice little fact that she was out here on a bet, but that wasn't the point. She glanced behind her for a moment, making sure nothing had followed her, then looked back to the two.

Bray looked around, Char was right about Shay being gone. "Hmm, I hope the hag ate him." He said, frowning. Shay was the reason he was out here wondering what was coming for them in the first place. When Char recognized it to be safe, he looked up. Ah, a girl.. more specifically Fay Locke. Bray let out the breath that he didn't know he was holding after he recognized her.
"I'd have to agree that she's no hag, but she sure looks like one right now from you saying that" He said laughing a little bit, though he knew Fay was veela, not hag. Hopefully she wasn't as smack-happy as Bry is and he and Char wouldn't get whacked in the head, but by now he was pretty used to it. "But no, she's a vile Veela, watch out or she could be worse than that old hag you're looking for." He said, winking a bit. Bray was joking of course, even if it didn't sound like it. "A dare, what are you doing out here, that's the question!"

That good old, legendary Slytherin smirk came to Shay's face, as he walked farther away from the two, far enough from Bray and Char so they couldn't see him, but he could see them. That sly smirk kept creeping up, as he thought over his plan to scare the living day-lights out of them. Once or twice, he could swear he heard them saying his name. His little smirk turned from that smirk, to a grin. They're probably thinking something ate me.. Good.. He thought. Hearing a shout behind him, he looked behind himself-and was still walking-, but only saw the dim light of the lantern, and Bray and Char's figures. Shrugging, he turned his head back around, only to see he was colliding with a tree, causing there to be a loud thud. Stumbling backwards, he tripped over a loose rock, and fell on his buttox. "Damn!" He shouted loudly, but realizing he'd probably blown his cover.
Getting to his feet quickly, Shafer dashed behind the tree he'd hit, and glanced around, hoping they hadn't heard him. It would completely ruin his plan to scare them. Seeing the dim light, he squinted his eyes, and now saw a third figure there. That couldn't be, could it? Were his eyes playing tricks on him? Rubbing his eyes, he squinted again, and there was a third figure there still. Was it someone else? Or something else? Nonetheless, in a matter of moments, he would still creep over there, and scare them to death. But it had to be the right moment, otherwise they might not get as scared as he wanted them to be.

Char smirked while shaking his head. "You walked in here because of a bet? I thought Ravenclaws are supposed to be smart," he joked, the conversation taking his mind off his nerves.
Before he could take in another relieved breath, however, there was a loud sound that resounded through the trees. Imagining Shafer actually half eaten as Bray had suggested caused the Gryffindor relight his dying lantern and take a step into a thick brush of leaves.
"Come on," He said in a whisper, sure the others had heard the sound. "It came from here..."

Felicity rolled her eyes at Bray. "Yes, I'll charm you to death. Oh dear!" She glanced over to Char. Fay was about to retort, until she heard a shout. Her head snapped up and she looked around, her grip on her wand tightened.
Fay followed after Char, her eyes darting back and forth. "Who did you say you were looking for?" Her voice was just a whisper. Though the sounds did startle her, she wasn't all that frightened of the forest. Not while she was in a group atleast. They could probably fight off something if it came right?
She gripped the edge of her sleeve, and bit down lightly on her lower lip. Well, this night was going to be fun.
