Victoria had yet stepped foot near the forest since coming back to work at the school. She remembered all the stories told to her by the other students when she was younger and they used to spook her then the older she got the more afraid she became of it. There were few people who knew about her fear and some who did used to actually taunt her about it some going as far to dare her to enter the forest at night. Well she wasn't one to be bullied so those stupid gits usually got a nice hex thrown their way for upsetting her. Now though, she was all grown this was the one thing that she really truly feared and the one thing that she knew she needed to overcome.
Why had she decided to do this at night, oh yeah so no one could see her possibly running back to the castle screaming for dear life. Her cloak flew out behind her as she continued to walk along, the only thing she could see was her shadow in the grass, she hadn't lit her wand yet just in case there were people watching out of the windows.
Now she was near the edge of the forest when her footsteps began to falter. Sighing she looked ahead and saw nothing but vast darkness, she started to shake a bit as nerves started to get the better of her. Thinking of turning back for the first time that night she was just about to attempt an about face when she heard footsteps approaching. 'Oh no' she whispered.

Ashton froze, knowing he had been discovered. He hadn't been able to sleep so he had decided to humor his daredevil side and take a walk in the Forest. "H-hi there." he whispered nervously. "I-I can leave if you want me too?"

Another voice rang out and Vicky was not prepared for it. She let out a silent scream then felt foolish for doing it because she realized that the person who had spoken was a student 'Dammit all to hell' she swore. Checking her watch she noticed the hour. What in the world was this kid doing out at that time. Fear began to turn into anger, 'OK I'm going to ask this once time and I really hope well I actually think it would be in your best interest to tell me the whole truth, because if you don't I'll know.' That last bit was sort of a lie, she could read people but it came and it went. She used the line though because most people thought she was serious and were more forthcoming about the truth if they thought she was going to get it out of them anyway. 'I'm waiting for an answer,' she snapped not really meaning to.

Ashton was taken aback at her harsh tone and stumbled backwards. "I-I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take a walk." He replied in a voice trembling with nervousness. He took a deep breath, as he attempted to calm himself.

'Damn' again she swore she didn't mean to seem mean, she was just so shocked to find someone else out there she lashed out. Looking at his face she immediately started to feel bad. 'Oh I'm sorry I wasn't trying to be mean I just well I wasn't expecting any other students to be out here. You know that you could get into an awful lot of trouble if one of the teachers or the caretaker find you wandering around. What brought you out here why not stay in your house common room?' she inquired her tone change severely as she looked at him.

Ashton gave a wry smile. "Like I said, couldn't sleep...needed to think. What better way to think than by taking a walk?" he replied softly.

'Granted I do know all about that, but you know that you're not supposed to be out on the grounds after hours. Anything can happen to you out here you know that don't you? Plus you're so-so-so' she felt nervous again looking into the thickset trees, the feeling that someone else was watching them, 'you're so near the forest as well. In my day kids used to wander the dungeons at night. Felt it was riskier with the caretaker running around trying to catch them,' she was trying to joke primarily to rid herself of that uneasy feeling in the pit of her tummy.

Ashton shrugged. "Being outside is better than being inside. Besides, with a life like mine, well, let's just say the Forest doesn't scare me as much as it probably should." he replied in a distant tone, as he gazed off into the dark trees of the Forbidden Forest. Looking, but not really seeing.

Vicky wasn't the warm and fuzzy type, people might not find her that easy to talk to sometimes but there were moments that she felt something for someone and the need to help them if she could would emerge. This happened to be one of those times. 'Walk with me,' she said not even thinking about where she was about to walk into. 'Then maybe you can help me better understand what's so bad that it brought you out here at night when you should be sleeping.'

Ashton smiled. "Thanks, but... I don't really think you can help me. It's...complicated. And it's...hard for me to talk about..."

'Well why don't you try me, I mean sometimes those we think that we might not be able to talk to are just the ones who manage to help us through our problems.' That sounded so philosophical to her and she had to smile at that because she didn't do philosophy. Apparently she had grown up. 'So tell me if you feel uncomfortable then I guess I can walk you back to the castle since I cannot in good conscience leave you to wander out here on your own. The choice is yours.'

Ashton continued to gaze off into the distance as he considered her offer. "Well, I guess when you're used to living in fear every day of your life, something as insignificant as a forest, no matter how dangerous it may be, is never something to fear." He sighed, "It may be something to embrace. A place where you can be alone, and get away from all your problems." He chuckled wrly. "And I, have many problems. Most of them being family problems."

They walked along and now she had taken notice of where they were, his mention of the forest causing her to look up her eyes trying to adjust to the darkness, her ears opened as she listened for any signs of noise. She was trying her best not to appear afraid or intimidated by where they were walking into. 'So there are family problems, well that's understandable every family has problems, what kind of problems?' the more they talked the calmer she had started to feel but he had to keep talking to her or her mind would start working overtime and she would get nervous all over again.

Ashton chuckled bitterly. "My mother died giving birth to me, and my father blames me for it."

Dan mumbled to himself as he wondered through the overgrowth of the forest, he was following a trail of destruction. He would grumble ever time his cloak became tangled in the brambles or he would stumble down a hole he had not seen. With his wand held height for light Dan continued to walk through the trampled ground ducking under broken branches and fallen tress. The main problem was the thing he was looking for would almost be impossible to find in the forest as it blended in so well. On a number of occasions Dan would bend down and pick something up before throwing it away again when he realised it was just a stick.
It was while he was picking up another twig Dan heard voices. With a flick the light form his wand went out and he walked towards the are where the voices where coming from. “My mother died giving birth to me, and my father blames me for it."
Dan winched at the sound of a student, he really did not want to punish anyone, he was not even meant to be out the castle tonight, he had told the other teachers he was ill so could not attend the staff meeting. Peering around the side of a tree Dan saw that the Ravenclaw was not with another teacher, but with Victoria Potter. A smile spread across Dan’s face, he was safe and could get away with wondering around the forest. Stewpping forward Dan wlaked right up towards the other two people.
“By chance have you two seen a wand? I have been looking for it all day. I normally just summon it too me but it has not been working so unfortunate I have been having to do it the muggle way. I do hope nothing has eaten it.”
