Ash smiled in reply, "Yeah, it definitely is." he said. Hearing taunts of Claw-lover! and Bloodtraitor! he looked up. A Slytherin girl, younger than him had entered the room. As soon as she did jeers and insults started flying. He watched with narrowed eyes as her housemates threw a syrup covered muffin hitting her on the cheek and then laughed about it.
Ash's eyes blazed, his lips pressed tight together as he shook his head. "Some people can be so immature." he said in a low voice. He smiled up at the girl. "Hi. I'm Ash." He glanced back over to the Snakes, then back to the new girl. "Do they always do that to you?" he asked in a low voice. It was probably none of his business, but still, he was a curious sort. Besides, there was no harm in asking. Right?

Licking dried syrup off her fingers, she nodded simply, "Well, they don't always pelt me with food. Yesterday morning they chained me to a dungeon wall, and two nights ago they lit my bedsheets on fire." Pausing, Cairo added, "With me still in them." When listed out like that it sounded funny, even to her, who had experianced all the terrors first-hand. "Its because they can't stand the fact that I hang out with people from other houses." Though they probably got the hint from the Claw-lover jeers that had been thrown at her only moments before. Even now a few side-glares and snickers were flung her way, but she dutifully ignored them, still smiling. "Makes life pretty unpredictable." And sometimes that was a good thing.
Shifting so she was cross-legged on the bench, the Slytherin shrugged her shoulders, as if silently letting the pair know she remained currently unphased by their constant tormenting. She was slowly gaining friends--albeit in other houses--and much preferred their company to her housemates anyway. It wasn't as if she was losing good people, they were Snakes after all.

Ella's mouth dropped. "That's terrible!" Ella exclaimed, yet the girl seemed unfazed. "If I would have known, I would have atleast tried to get them to stop. I mean, most of them are mindless twits and blindly follow their parents, who strangely blindly follow mine. I mean, many of them don't talk kindly about me, but to my face, they're cowards" Ella snickered. She knew that was still a disadvantage, being a Malfoy, considering she was judged harshly by the other houses. But she knew she had to keep her head up to the positive.
Why was she in Slytherin, again?

Ash nodded in agreement, "Yeah that is." He noticed that....Cairo? Was that her name? Seemed unfazed. "So," he said putting down his fork, "Are you new to the school, or have I just not seen you around?" He waved to a few of his Gryffindor friends as they walked past, giving them a warning look when he saw them direct glares at Cairo and Ella, and a few hands inch towards wands, 'Don't even think about it.' he warned silently with his eyes.
The Gryffindors rolled their eyes and walked off. "Sorry bout that." he said turning back to the girls with a smile, "Apparently some of my Gryffindor friends don't understand why I hang out with Slytherins." He paused, then as an after thought added, "Well, nice Slytherins anyway." he smiled at them over the rim of his cup.
Ash couldn't understand it. How could something so small, so insignificant as a house tear people apart. He'd seen friendships, families, and even lovers torn apart over this stupid tradition. And all for what? Because your bestfriend became a Gryffindor, and you became a Slytherin and now you no longer spoke to eachother except to taunt and torture eachother in class and in the halls? It just didn't make sense.

"It happens" Ella shrugged, waving off the incident as nothing. "I'm proud to be a Slytherin" Ella said, sitting up just a peep taller. "Sometimes, people just use the gifts they have...wrongly" Ella explained. Her father immidietly flashed through her head.

"Are you new to the school, or have I just not seen you around?" Cairo smiled as Ella exclaimed that it was terrible and shrugged her shoulders, as if it were nothing unusual anyway, before replying to Ashton, "I'm new. And as you can see," She added, waving her hand at the Slytherin table over her shoulder, "interesting things happen to me a lot. I don't mind them most of the time, they keep me on my toes." Laughing with a wink, Cairo linked her fingers together and rested her chin on them, leaning forward a little and nodding her head at what Ashton said. "Its alright. I haven't been here two weeks and I've experianced more prejudice than I ever have in my entire life." She noted with a frown. "I assume I'll get used to it. I just hope it doesn't turn me into one of them." And by them, she meant the Snakes. They had quite the foul personalities, many of them. Except Ella, she was nice.
"I heard you're an animagus, in, er, Divination? The class with the tea leaves." Leave it to her not to remember the name of the class they had a while ago. "Thats really, really cool. I signed my name down for the class, but I haven't learned much about it." Eyes even wider and brighter with curiosity and interest, Cairo listened intently to what he responded with.

Ash rolled his eyes in reply, "Yeah, the prejudice here is already ridiculous, now it's borderline insane!" He took a bite of toast before answering her next question. "Yeah, snow leopard." he replied, wiping his hands. Looking around to make sure no one was listening, he leaned closer to Cairo and Ella, "Think you girls can do me a favor?" he asked in a low voice, leaving an open end, in case Cairo and Ella didn't want to do it.

Ella listened as Cairo explained the predicament she was in. Ella had half a mind to give the little gits a piece of her mind. She had to hold her tongue, those little gits would tell her father in a moment.

A look of longing flashed in her eyes for a moment before vanishing as he leaned forward to ask them a favor. Cairo, spurred by curiosity--it would be her downfall eventually, she was sure--nodded her head. "Depends what the favor is." She grinned, saying it jokingly when in fact she was quite serious about it. The Slytherin hadn't known him for that long, for all she knew he could ask her to do something life threatening or illegal. You never knew, after all. He seemed really nice though, someone she might learn to trust eventually, so she would keep things light and positive between them.
So what was the favor?

Ella pondered as Ash asked a favor. Cairo replied with the exact thing she had thought of. It all depends. She knew this boy, yes, but was he trustworthy? Ella thought so, but she had been wrong about people on more than one occasion. All Ella knew was she needed to keep her mind open. "Request your favor" Ella told Ash, with a small smile on her face, anticipating the best. "I'm up for just about anything" Ella explained, her right brow raising in question as she spoke.

Ash thought about what he was about to do, and decided not to. He was better than Walker. If the Snake wanted to throw around petty insults, that was fine. But Ash refused to sink to his level. "Actually, nevermind. Forget I said anything." he said, leaning back once more.
Picking at his food, he looked up at the two of them, "So... I'm not trying to offend you or anything...but how come you two aren't like the other Snakes? I mean, Maeve obviously isn't like them, which is she's such a good friend of mine, but what made you two decide to be different?"

Ella thought about Ash's question for a moment. Why did she chose this? Well, it was never really a choice, Ella thought, she just wasn't like the rest of them. Although, Ella did notice she had a very short temper, and was not very fond of muggles. But, the feelings she had could never be as strong as those of her fathers. Maeve was Ella's close cousin, and as she and Ella were younger, they seemed to have a more polite manner than the family around them.
Although, around her father, Ella was as cold as ice. She had learned to dance to his tune all these years.
"Sometimes," Ella started to explain "it just happens. I wil admit I can be cold, it seems like its in my blood, but it just isn't me. I look at people and dont see houses. Honestly, it's hard to see how you could." Ella shrugged.
Ella thought for a moment, "I just don't want to be like my father." Ella made one last statement. It seemed as out of everything, that was the strongest emotion.

"Yeah, I've always thought it was odd how people were sorted into houses. I mean, what's the point?" Ash covered up a yawn and laughed. "Sorry, I'm still half-asleep!"
Tapping his fingers on the wood of the table Ash wondered vaguely what Cris was doing and drifted off into daydreams...
