The midnight sky was thankfully clear, the only way to gaze at the stary host. She had set twelve star charts on twelve tables, which are set in front of twelve telescope looking out twelve windows. She had sketched the charts herself, each drawn for it's specific window. This lesson might be a rough start but Dia certainly though a welcomed awakening to the year ahead.
The hatch in the floor of the tower was open and, from the bottom of the staircase, a faint light hovered just in view. Dia had placed herself to the right of the hatch, watching the moon twinkle and adding even more light to the circular room. Now, she thought, all there is left to do is wait!

Adair walked into the classroom, eyes skittering over empty tables. The scene pleased him, however, as he caught sight of twelve individual telescopes and tables... There seemed to be individual windows for each as well.
As unsociable as he was, he always enjoyed independent assignments, and strode over to the furthest table. Pulling out the chair silently, he folded his hands over the table trying to keep them away from grabbing onto the telescope like they wanted to.

Loren always loved the subjects which required lessons at night. Although there were not many - Astronomy, Divination, Arithmancy - which catered to this special need, Loren was happy in knowing that there would always be a like minded professor or student awaiting her when she walked into a dark classroom. Tonight of course was not exception, and after quietly tip toeing out of her common room and briefly showing patrolling teachers and ministry officials her lesson pass, Loren was now ascending the golden ladder into the cavernous and dreamy Astronomy tower...
As usual the twelve monstrous telescopes were pointed fixated up out of the windows, the stars magnified through their many layers of eyes. She was surprised to see that only one student had arrived so far - a Slytherin boy. Loren found that she recognised him, but could not quite put her finger on who he was. 'Hello professor...' Loren whispered as she glimpsed the woman in the shadows on her right. There was of course no chance of her voice waking anyone from all the way up in the Astronomy tower, but the still, black atmosphere seemed to suggest quiet voices were needed.

Emilia loved stars..anything that dealt with them she absolutely adored..
She walked into the classroom and saw the professor. She looked a little nervous..but Emilia didn't much care. Emilia gave a humble smile and took a seat..she noticed the telescopes which made her even more anxious.. I really can't wait she thought to herself.

Grace stumbled over the last few steps into the Astronomy tower and the room where they would be having their late lesson. Grace, as much as she loved Astronomy, hated this part of the subject. She was not one to stay up late involuntarily. However, under the circumstances, she was cheery enough to laugh at her own clumsiness.
Grace stood up straight, after her slight tumble, and gazed around the room. Everything in the room can in dozens, a dozen windows, a dozen telescopes, a dozen tables. But the small number of people didn't quite seem to fit. Smiling at everyone present, Grace giggled, "morning all! Morning Professor!"

Dia had been lost in her thoughts when the first of the students arrived. As she turned to look at the trap door a cheerful Ravenclaw came in and whispered a greeting. Dia smiled at her, and the slytherin who had slipped in unnoticed. "Good evening, Miss Hayes," she whispered back, "I am very pleased you came," and to the Slytherin, "and you too, Mr Telbor."
She uncrossed her legs and turned towards those present when two more students came in. "Good evening Miss Nicholas," Dia smiled at the Gryffindor, "and Miss Marks, welcome." She hoped the students would continue to come as swiftly as these had.
House Points: Slytherin: 5 Ravenclaw: 47 Gryffindor: 10 Hufflepuff: 17 (automatic 5 points for attending class)

Girty ran along the corridor. She had heard Grace leave the common room but by the time Girty had reached the bottom of the dormitory stirs she had gone. Trying to catch up Girty continued to run down the ark corridors on her way to the Tower. Poking her head through he trap door Girty noticed that quite a few people had already turned up. When she noticed Grace she found it hard not to smile.
“Good erm…night professor. It is a nice cloudless night I noticed.”
She made her way to the table closed to Grace and dumped her bag on the floor. It had been a while since Girty had thought about star charts and her mind went blank as soon as she saw the telescope and parchment.

Dia smiled at another face popped up the trap door. "Indeed," she said, smiling warmly, "the clouds do seem to be favouring us tonight." She took a quick head-count, five? Hmm, perhaps waiting a little longer would be best? Agreeing with herself, Dia smiled at eveyone and said, "we'll wait five more minutes, then start."

Jac jumped up the top three stairs and was about to yell something very funny and witty but was hit by a wave of silence and thought better of it. Instead, she stood up straight and whispered, "evening all! Professor." She then spotted Grace and Girty together; she decided to join them and whispered, "what's up with the whole quiet thing?"
She looked around the room, noting everything there. Twelve tables, charts, telescopes and "-Loren!" she whispered, "good to see you again!" She giggled quietly then blinked at everyone, the stares were more then usual.

Loren waved frantically as Jac caught her eye, and she walked over to join her, Girty and Grace. She smiled at the other two girls, but upon looking back at Jac, she realised a little pattern. 'Three champions,' she grinned. Jac and Girty gave Loren a confused look. 'Helia had to drop out... so I'm her replacement.' She said with a sheepish grin.

Jac laughed heartily, forgetting the quietness of the classroom. She put a hand on Loren's shoulder and the other on her aching stomach, saying joyfully, "that was spot on mate! Truly wizard!" Then realizing she had made a joke without meaning to, she began to laugh again, now hugging her tummy with both her arms. "Oh, that's brilliant!" she said, wiping tears away, "bloody wicked!"

Grace smiled at Girty as she joined her by the table across from the door. She had seated herself and had began looking at the chart when someone jumped into the room. Grace's head snapped up and she smiled, it was Jac. Jac mentioned the quiet and only then did it strike her as odd. She shrugged.
Loren came over to join them too. Grace smiled at her and giggled at the reference the three Quadwizard Champions. There Grace felt slightly uncomfortable but the sensation soon passed when she heard Jac's infectious laughter fill the room. She could hardly keep her own laughter in.

Dia nodded to the new arrival, a Gryffindor, make no mistake about that. She smiled and shook her head, remembering her days as a Gryffindor. Her smile faded and she quickly brought herself back to the present. "The past is not where I want to be just now," she thought.
Then she stood up from the desk she had been occupying and clapped her hands. "Your attention please," she said gently and the chattering stopped. "Welcome to your first lesson of Astronomy for this term, I hope you all had pleasant holidays. Now, to get straight on to tonight’s task you have two options. Your first option is to work in groups. There shall be three in a group and each shall have a job. The first shall gaze through the telescope and describe what they see." Dia walked to a vacant desk and laid a hand softly on the telescope. "The second shall utilise the textbooks available over there." She pointed to a pile of thick books next to the desk Dia had been sitting in. "This person shall identify the constellations observed and tell the third who shall be the one drawing the charts.
"The second option is to do this individually," she said quickly, "which is more responsibility and work." Looking at the six before her, Dia said, "the groups would be best and the marks shall be shared equally. This shall be your first assessment for the term. You have this time to compete as much of the Chart as possible. The telescope and chart and window are meant to be together so kindly do not change them, but feel free to use the desk next to you if it is required. So shall it be groups? Or individual assessment?" She looked enquiringly at each student present, smiling encouragingly.
Then another thought came to her. “There is, however, another option. All six of you could work together. Six minds are better then two groups of three. But if this option is chosen, then two charts must still be done, two next to each other.” She looked around and could not decide if giving them the choice was a wise move. But she did want them to get more involved instead of her simply regurgitating the facts. “I shall be here if you have any questions once you start but then I want you to be productive."

Normally Loren was more eager to focus on herself, as school work usual became something she would compete in - she could always be trusted to lean over and peer at her neighbour's mark after a test was finished, desperate to know if she had been out shined or matched. For a moment the idea of working in a team was awful - how could she get anything done with several other people trying to interfere with the task at hand? Surely they would ruin everything or miss something Loren would not?
She looked at the others in the room. I want to get to know the other champions better, she admitted to herself, chewing her upper lip thoughtfully. I suppose this'd be a good opportunity to see how good they are at problem solving. No harm in knowing what I'm up against.
'I'll be on telescope duty,' Loren piped up immediately, walking over to one of the monstrous machines and grabbing hold of it possessively before anyone else could. Get a grip, Loren, it's the middle of the night - stop being so eager!

Dia smiled at Loren's enthusiasm. "Very good, Ms Hayes," she said, "very good indeed." She walked to the chart that was in front of the telescope the Ravenclaw had chosen. Dia looked at it, running a finger delicately over it. She wanted to give some house points so she thought quickly about the best way to do that.
"Ah, yes, a good choice," Dia said favourably. Is knew exactly what Loren could see. "Loren?" she asked, "do you see that forked constellation near the top right hand side?" She fingered the constellation on the chart, though it was not marked, "it's called 'Andromeda'. Could you tell me the mythological story attributed to her?"
