The courtyard, much to Tenley's surprise, was a quiet place. Everywhere else on the grounds was jam packed with students. How anyone ever collected their thoughts around her was beyond her. Sure, there were still the few couples hiding behind hedges sucking face but what school didn't have that? Ten made some rather disgusted faces towards these couples that obviously weren't afraid of showing more than enough PDA.
Finding a seat near the fountain, she pulled out her cellphone. Sure, it didn't really work around here but she could still look at the pictures her small group of friends had taken back in America. She found that more than a few were of Jase and her, though it was expected as they were best friends.
Shoving the phone back into her pocket, she folded her hands and stared at a random hedge for a few moments. This was a new place to her and Tenley was one that was slightly afraid of change. Though she knew she'd get over it soon, it still worried her. She was starting to miss everyone. It had been a while since she had recieved a letter from Amie but she knew it'd take a while; after all, Amie was overseas. Ten let out a long sigh.

Karis had been stuffed up in the hufflepuff common room for most of they day, struggling to finish a certain pain in the butt essay for a certain pain in the butt teacher. Sighing, she had finally found the answer she had been searching for, after looking at the same page over ten times and re-reading it. After writing down the answer she closed the book rather heavy handedly and walked up to her dorm to put it in her trunk, along with the essay. Closing the trunk afterwards, she pulled off her short dark grey fitted jacket off the bed post and put it on, pulling her hair out from the back so it was unrestricting. Walking out of the common room, she noticed the castle was pretty crowded. Sighing, she just wanted a bit of peace and quite before a headache started. She headed towards the courtyard, taking a chance because normally it was crowded with puppy love and smooches, and Karis couldn't be doing with seeing that in every corner of the yard. Opening the doors that lead to the courtyard, wind swept into her hair for a moment before settling once again. Noticing that for once, the courtyard was empty except for a lone girl, she smiled, and decided to make her way over to her. "Hi, it's weird with no lovesick couples being here for once isn't it?" she gave a quick laugh. Putting her hands back in her jeans pockets, she gave the girl a smile. "Do you mind if I sit with you?" she asked, with a raised eyebrow.

Tenley watched as the couples slowly disappeared until there was nobody left in the courtyard but her. Finally it was quiet. She wasn't hearing the distant whispers of 'i love you' from the corners of the courtyard nor did she have to put up with the constant giggles and squeals of the girls as their boyfriend found their backside. It sickened her, probably because she wasn't in a relationship but that would come eventually.
Tenley turned to the source of the voice that had startled her out of her daze. "It's not weird without them, just peaceful," she said adding a laugh. The girl had asked if she could sit with her. Usually, Amie would be the one to say yes or no seeing as her and Jase were the leaders of the pack but she had no Jase with her, no Amie, and no Mike. It was only her. Ten gave a nod, "I don't mind," she said moving over so there was room for the girl.
"Did you come out here for some peace as well? Seems the students don't know how to take a break around here."

When the girl spoke, Karis flashed her a big friendly smile. It's what she did best. Nodding her head in thanks, she sat down next to her. Putting her hands inbetween her knees to keep them warm, she shrugged at the same time before answering the girl's question. "Yeah, It was getting quite stuffy and frustrating in the common room. Everywhere seems to be crazy in the castle, I couldn't seem to get a moment's peace in there" she simply said. She looked over to the girl and realised that she hadn't introduced herself. "Oh i'm sorry" she said, shaking her head a little. "I'm Karis Isolde, Hufflepuff extrodinaire" she joked, and when said it, it was in a thick Welsh accent. Karis extended her hand to the girl to formally introduce herself. Manners was something Karis was brought up to use all the time, and properly. Even if her family was from the country, they were still polite, and not like them crazy farmers you saw in movies. "Your a new student arn't you? I don't think i've seen you around here before" she stated, hoping she was right and not just totally oblivious to the other students of Hogwarts. "Forgive me if i've been oblivious" she said with a sympathetic smile.

The girl certainly seemed sweet, that was for sure so Tenley definitely couldn't tell the girl now, it wasn't Tenley-like anyway. Ten was one of those people that couldn't say no, even if she wanted to but this was a case where a yes was needed. It was always nice to meet new people when you found yourself in an unfamiliar surrounding. "Yeah, this is the only quiet place I've found so far."
Ten grinned when Karis introduced herself. Taking her hand she responded, "Tenley Michaels. I'm not an extrodinaire of sorts, just me," she said with a toothy grin. It was true, sure she was a bookworm and usually recieved top marks in the American Academy but she had yet to start classes here and she didn't know what the teachers were like.
Yes, Ten was new. She had never even been to this continent before now either. "I'd hope you haven't seen me before. If you have, I'd be a little worried that I was having some out of body experiences or something!" Ten laughed, "Yes, I'm new. Came from America, actually. Never been to this side of the world before either."

"Oh, well Hi Tenley, i'm Karis" she smiled back to her. Karis listened to Ten intently as she explained that she was infact new, and straight from the United States Of America. The very place where Karis had always wanted to visit. "America? Wow. I love America, well, I really want to go one day maybe after graduation" she said realising she she was getting a little too excited, so she stopped. "I mean...erm, where abouts are you from?" she questioned. When Tenley said about out of body experiences, Karis found it hard to control her laughter. Karis looked out into the courtyard and took in the view. A few honeydukes wrappers blew around on the floor in circles, and looked as if they were dancing with each other.

Ten laughed, "It's not what its made out to be. Not much different than here really. Same sorts of people, same everyday drama, only difference is we have a president and we talk different," she explained. Come the think of it, it really wasn't much different than Hogwarts. They spoke the same language and everything, just came out sounding different and all.
"Where abouts in America? Well my old school is in Northern California. An hour away from the beach and an hour away from the snow covered mountain tops." She told Karis. Tenley remembered taking a trip to the beach with her father only to go snowboarding later that very same day. "Where were you planning on going if you did go to the States?"

Karis smiled at Tenley. Surely the culture there was a little different? Even a little more relaxed? Anyway, it didn't matter because Karis had plans to visit the United States of America no matter what. Being a country girl from Wales, she wanted to see somewhere different for a change. Seeing sheep all day everyday wasn't exactly the most exciting thing Karis had ever experienced. Realising Tenley had asked her where abouts she wanted to visit in America, Karis paused. She hadn't really thought about exactly where she would go, just general America. "I'm not sure where exactly...Could you recommend anywhere?" she questioned. Seems as though Ten herself was an American girl, she figured she was probably the best person to ask in this situation, unless of course somebody who had been to every state in the USA came along right at that moment.

Sure, the US was different from the UK in many different ways, but not ones that made a big difference. They drove on the opposite side of the street, money was completely different, school years were longer and a bathroom was a bathroom, not the loo. Ten liked it here at Hogwarts though, it was when she went home to London that she was worried about.
"Places that I'd recommend? Well, definitely California. It's an extremely unique place and an unbelieveable experience, just don't go to Death Valley." Death Valley was the hottest place in the States. If you were stranded in the middle of the valley, there was no telling when the next car would drive through. People usually found it better to just avoid that general area if they could.
"If you don't like always warm weather, New York is also a neat place. Lots of city life, snow in the winter and the best thing known to us Americans, Broadway." Of course, not everyone liked broadway. It was simply a stage for performing arts but Ten loved it.
