[Lake] What Was New?

[Maeve Malfoy]

Maeve was bored. Maeve was extremely bored. Our of her mind bored. So bored, that even the gnomes in the garden gave up after trying to get a reaction out of her by biting her arms and legs. She didn't feel it since she was bored, after all.

But, what was new? She's always bored lately. Sure, her sister was there. Sure, some friends were there. Sure, her betrothed was there....

Wait, she hates him...

Anyway, Maeve was bored.

She had heard from the grapevine called Hogwarts that something exciting had happened, although no one knows exactly what. No matter how recently something happened, it spread like wildfire in this school. She had never been somewhere where the gossip was spread so quickly. Oh well.

At least she had something to look forward to. Ashy had told her to meet her at the lake so he could tell her something. At least someone would talk to her. She smiled at how she loved Ashy like a brother with him being a Ravenclaw, and how she despised her betrothed even if he was a Slytherin.

Now, she just needed to wait. Sitting on the lake's shores, allowing her school skirt to get damp, she waited. She was bored again.

But, what was new.

Ash grinned from ear to ear as he walked down the crunchy gravel path towards the lake, he had asked Maeve to meet him there, and sure enough, there she was. Ash waved to his old friend, "Hey Maeve!" he called once he was within hearing distance.

He walked over and hugged his Slytherin friend, "Girl, where have you been!?" he asked, "I haven't seen you...gosh...in ages!" Ash smiled brightly, "You'll never guess what's happened!" he said excitedly.

Maeve turned her head sharply in the direction she heard his familiar voice. She grinned at seeing him grin and returned the hug. "Hey, Ashy! I've just been sticking to the Slytherin dorms because I finally figured out that there's no way for me to get out of this Merlin forsaken engagement with my betrothed. If only I could find someone who loved me for me and who'd take me away from Joseph." she shook her head.

"So, what's the thing I'll never guess? Is it about this rumor that someone's getting married?" she asked, cluelessly.

Ash laughed, "Aww... poor Maevey!" He smiled again, "Yep! And guess who it is?" Ash's sapphire eyes sparkled brightly as he waited for a response, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. He was of course, talking about himself! It was still hard for Ash himself to believe that he was actually engaged, and yet he was. He had been for nearly a month, or maybe more.

Maeve studied him for a while before a smile graced her face. "YOU?!" She laughed in happiness and hugged him. "I can't believe it, Ashy! To who? When did this happen? And why wasn't I informed earlier?!"

Ash laughed, "Yep, me! His name is Cristian Martinez, he proposed about a month ago, maybe more, and the reason I didn't tell you sooner is because...I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN AGES!" Ash smiled innocently, "So, what have you been up to? Still hiding from you-know-who?" he asked rolling his eyes, knowing that Maeve would know he was referring to her betrothed.

Maeve stuck out her tongue childishly and unMalfoyish-like. "I can't help it if I'm plotting ways to kill my betrothed before I graduate this year. At least you got to choose your future husband." she joked. "So, how is this Cristian guy like? Does he treat you right? Is he cute? Hot? If you get any kids can I babysit?" she smiled, showing she was trying to be funny.

Ash laughed, "He's really sweet, and yes he treats me right, do you think I'd be engaged to him if he didn't? And hell yeah, he's hot! Kids?" He laughed slightly, "Sure! We may adopt a few. Haven't talked about it. But then again, we're not married yet. So let's get that done first, then we'll talk about kids."

"Psh, please, babe," she smirked. "With a face like yours, he'd never say no to what you want. It's pretty difficult." she lightly hit him in the arm. "And why wouldn't he want to adopt with you? Boys like you make the best fathers. Kind, sweet, gentle, caring, need I go on? And you have how much time to plan your wedding? Is it going to be this coming summer, or after you graduate?"

Ash blushed, "Oh stop flattering me! True, we do, and yes, please, go on. We're getting married after we graduate."

[Maeve Malfoy]

She kissed him on the cheek like an older sister would. "Darling, you are perfect parent material. You're cute and funny, you'll have great advice to give to your kids, no doubt."

Maeve hugged him tightly and held on as she talked. "Ashy, you have two years to create your perfect wedding! You can design your tuxes or robes or whatever you're going to wear, decide where it's going to be and when, who's coming, what food you want, what the cake's going to look and taste like! I mean, two years to make your dreams come true on that one day! And I'll help you make them appear before your very eyes." She let go of him after she was done talking.

Ash laughed, "Well of course I'm perfect! I mean seriously, what's not to love about me?" He smiled as Maeve hugged him, he couldn't help but think that those two years were going to pass by very quickly. "Yeah, we do. I haven't seen him around lately actually. It's kinda funny how it happened, he hadn't even been around the school for a long time, so of course I thought he was cheating on me, he sent me a note asking me to meet him here at the lake, and I thought he was gonna dump me. So you can imagine my surprise when he asked me to marry him!" His eyes lit up, "Ooh! Did I show you the ring?"

Maeve laughed. "I wouldn't know, because I can't find anything to not love. And apparently, Cristian can't either." She grinned. "What a way to start your relationship, Ash. 'Oh, he's going to break up with me. I know he-- OH MY MERLIN! That's a freaking ring he's holding to me! We're getting married!' Interesting, Ashy, hilarious, too. No, you little bugger! You haven't! And I demand to see it!"

Ash laughed, "I figured you'd say that!" He gave Maeve a playful mock glare. "Hey!" He laughed as she demanded to see the ring. "Alright, alright! Hold your horses woman!" he said laughing as he showed her his left hand. "See?"
