Where had the days gone? It seemed only last week he had gotten off the train, and sat in the Great Hall, watching as younger students were sorted and what not. So now it was November. And Dimitri was sure this year was to go by fast. Deciding he needed to get some fresh air, Dimitri left his dorm, coat over his arm. Walking out of the Gryffindor Common Room, he glanced out the nearest window, catching a glimpse of the outside world.
Down the Grand Staircase, and out the large oak doors, Dimitri pulled on his coat as he walked outside, the brisk November winds hitting the side of his face. Ruffling his already messy hair, he looked around at the few students who dared to wander on this chilly day. Saturdays needed to be enjoyed, and many students were taking up the last chances they'd get outside without it being unbearable to be out.
Hands in his coat pockets, Dimitri looked about, searching for something to do. Clouds covered the sun now and then, causing the grounds to be lit, and darkened at spots. With nothing better to do, he headed off to the lake, deciding that skipping rocks would be the highlight of his afternoon. Reaching the lake, he grabbed a couple rocks, and stood by the water's edge, skipping the rocks in his hands.

It was a chilly November day but when wasn't November chilly? Sure she went to school in California before transferring to Hogwarts, but she was from Oregon and November's there weren't much different from here. Luckily, she had packed her fall jacket in her school trunk instead of with her other stuff that was meant to go with her father to their new house.
She still found it weird that their were four different houses in this school, but she was getting used to it now. Ravenclaw, the smart house. She didn't see what was so smart about it. Students in her house were still found outside freezing their butts off. She found it rather funny that they wouldn't have the common sense to get out their winter gear seeing as it wasn't long after fall when the first snow would touch the ground.
Ten crossed her arms over her chest as she walked along the lake. Sure, the coat kept her warm but the wind was still harsh against her fair skin. Her hair continuously masked her view until she found it necessary to pull it back and throw it up in a ponytail. Once she reached a spot by the lake with the best view, she found she wasn't alone. Turning to her left then her right, she checked to see if there was anyone else around. Finding herself a little isolated, besides the boy that was seen skipping rocks, she made her way in his direction.
Glancing down at her feet, she found a few good skipping rocks and picked them up. She had never done this before and figured it wouldn't be so hard. She watched the boy as he tossed a rock then attempted to mimic him. Failing, she turned to the boy, "How do you do that?"

Plink. Plink. Plink. Plonk. Plink. Plink. Plink. Plonk. Dimitri continued his rock skipping, listening to rocks hit the water, then sink. It seemed as though the whole world revolved around the sound of the skipping rocks. A couple of times he had to bend down to pick up more rocks, but skipping rocks was what was keeping amused.
After what seemed like a good twenty minutes of skipping rocks, Dimitri was beginning to get bored. Skipping the last rock he held in his hand, he watched as it sunk through the murky water. But then, there was another plonk. Not one he made, he was sure. And soon a voice followed it. Looking towards the source of the sounds, he found a girl; a particularly cute girl. But then again, every girl was cute to Dimitri.
Smiling, he picked up another rock, and skipped it across the lake. "It's all in the wrist." He said, happily showing off.

Tenley wasn't doing well with the rock skipping thing, but at least she was willing to try. When she was younger, she used to watch her older cousins skip rocks on the ocean and once again back in the American Academy of Magic with Jase and Mike. She never confessed that she didn't know how to do it, she just simply used the excuse that she was a lady and ladies just simply didn't skip rocks. Of course, it was followed by laughter by the rest of the group.
The boy smiled at her and Ten found herself smiling back at him. It was a usual reaction for Ten as she was almost always smiling. She watched as the boy did it again, this time walking closer to him to get a better observation of it. "The wrist," she repeated before attempting another go at it. Her rock looked as if it would skip but the moment it made contact with the water, it sank to its watery death. Ten made a small 'hmph' before shrugging.
"Seems I'm not cut out for the rock skipping jig," she said with a small laugh. She looked at the remaining rocks in her hand, picked one up and just tossed it in the lake. If she couldn't skip it, she'd at least make the best of them. "Name's Tenley," she said before turning to the boy.

Dimitri watched as the girl repeated his words, and then tried herself. The rock looked like it was about to skip, but decided that it would just ruin the girl's attempt, and fell to the bottom of the murky lake. "That rock must be broken or something." He commented, without really thinking about it. It was the subconscious thing he often said to himself if his rock didn't skip. It seemed like he had no control over what he said sometimes, which was pretty much true.
The Gryffindor watched as the other student began to toss rocks into the lake, instead of trying again. Picking up another, he took a step closer, determined to have her skip at least one rock. "Try flicking your wrist more." He suggested, demonstrating again. Watching his rock skip across the water, and then sink, he stuck his hands back into his pockets, trying not to let them freeze. "Tenley, ay? I'm Dimitri." He replied, giving a toothy grin.

Ten wasn't the greatest rock skipper and now they both knew it. She'd be lucky if it jumped once, but alas, they only sank to the depths of the lake. Ten's head twisted in Dimitri's direction before she gave a laugh, "I assure you that the rock is not broken. Perhaps it is I that's broken." Her analogy sounded much better to her. The rock was not the one throwing itself, all it had to do was fly through the air and land on water at geometrical angles that allowed it to skim across the water; the problem laid in the thrower, not the rock itself.
Apparently, the boy wasn't going to let Tenley give up as he found it necessary to demonstrate once more. Ten found this part of his personality rather cute and decided to give it a go once more. Watching him, she practiced flicking her wrists before actually attempting once more. She was a bit hesitant on trying once more because she didn't want to make a bigger fool out of herself than she already had.
She tossed it, just like Dimitri had told her and even flicked her wrist like she was showed. The rock skipped off the water once, twice before sinking. Ten grinned as if she had just accomplished something huge. "I did it!" she said rather enthusiastically. Sure, maybe it wasn't something to get overly excited about but it was something she had never done before.
