It had been another sleepless night since Jason had arrived here at Hogwarts. The third, he believed. No matter, ever since Angelina had mentioned the forest, Jason had been hooked and curious as ever. So, tonight was the night.
A perfect January night. Clear, crisp and brisk, the twilight sheet of clouds hung low in the sky and was mottled with shimmering stars. Jason silently stepped out from the castle and beyond the boundries of the lawns with a self-satisfying smirk playing on his lips. While ruffling his chesnut hair, the Slytherin yawned as he walked the dividing line of trees and the lawns. With a flick of the wrist, Jason threw back his ebony-knit scarf and slipped between two large trees.
The bitter air nipped at the young boy's cheeks and exposed skin, but that wouldn't stop him from roaming further and further within the forest. Rows and rows of trees seemed to pass Jason's hazel eyes until he came to a sudden stop.
Snap.
A twig snapping? Is someone in here.. or something with me? A few thoughts ran through his mind quickly, and not pretty ones. He was always one to jump to conclusions and to think the worst.
Crunch.
Great. Leaves and twigs now. Jason hugged his back to a tree, opposing the noise. Being sure that what ever it was that was following him was walking on two legs, the Slytherin peered out from behind the tree to spot a figure illuminated by the moonlight. But who?

Oh?
She felt disgusting dirt beneath her shoes.
Worms, in a frenzy, panicked to flee from her shadow. Their funny wrigglings could be felt through the scatter of long-dried leaves.
Uncertain, our character took a step forward, then backwards, then decided just to stand still for another moment. Her eyes glowered up at the skies. Some branch snapped under her heels at the movement. . . but somehow Jin doubted that she was not alone. I mean, this terrain is forbidden, per se, if you know what I'm saying. . .
Jin was snooping through the trees, on her own business of course, when a shade had stomped across her path. She couldn't quite gather what it was, but it looked humanoid enough. Perhaps a wretched drop-out wandering about. She glimpsed a spark of bright brown ruffled by wind, but nothing more. The shade then darted behind some trees.
Jin gave little thought towards the mysterious companion. She was out here probing for other things- interesting things. Things that she liked, but others didn't. For a long while Jin had held an odd interest for the spectral wights referred to as 'cursed things' by mum:
Dementors.
Strange passion for emotionless soul-kissers, but she was, ah, a strange girl.
In all her unwise decisions, she decided to make her presence more obvious. "Hullo. Someone's here, there. Make yourself known, please." (It was more a firm statement than a question.)

He wasn't alone.
Jason quickly casted a 'lumos' spell and watched as a small burst of light jumped forth from the tip of his wand. The voice was female, so he needn't be too worried or concerned. It sounded familiar.. slightly. In a bold move to reveal himself, he stepped forth from the trees that masked him and looked to the fifth year with narrowed hazel eyes. Instead of answering, he simply nodded, but appeared to be quite curious of the young girl.
"And praytell. Why are you shouting?" He asked, a hint of a playful nature hidden within his words. The young Slytherin looked familiar, perhaps he had seen her in the common rooms or in passing, granted the two never spoke to eachother before. Perhaps she was new, just as he was?
The Slytherin held out his want and illuminated her figure a bit more clearly before he began to stride towards her. Stopping within a few feet of her, he offered a smile and his hand. After all, they both were of the same house.

Light hit her!
Oh. Lumos. No wonder. She heard the words carried by wind- "And praytell. Why are you shouting?" Someone civilized, well, well! A good voice, too.
"I'm not!, or I wasn't. . . Put that out 'til we really need it." Crows brayed up above. A few conifer needles scattered downwards. She waited- patiently -for the cone of light to fade.
Jin looked from his face to his garb. A boy (older, yes.) with perky hair and a Slytherin scarf. There being no obvious reason for a student in a house other than Slytherin wearing said olive-n-black scarf, Jin assumed he was from mentioned house. "And you're pureblood, I'm supposing? What's your reason?" Hell knows that she wasn't going to state her motive of prancing in these dark woodlands first. When he decided it best to jivvy up to her, starkly holding out a hand, she didn't react for a few breaths.
Her artistic side was at work. She prodded at his palm with a delicately tentative finger and admired it from where she was. Startling thing, beautiful thing. Each digit looked as if it were sculpted with a-flaming fervor, then dried with cold and uncaring winds. She traced the sweeping lines of "fortune" gouged into his young hands with her eyes. As stated afore, Jin was a creatively odd girl. . .
In the end (or if there is as such), she slipped her own hand into his. Funnily enough, her smooth skin that had caressed only the slap of paints and artisan quills felt freezing against the other's.
A minute of silence.

"And you're pureblood, I'm supposing? What's your reason?"The younger girl asked while looking up to him.
The reason? He really didn't have one. The boy was simply drawn to the forest for reasons unknown. Curiosity or rebellion, perhaps. Or perhaps for a darker reason. Merely shrugging, Jason answered in a soft voice, "I'm just exploring." Whether that was true or not, he decided it was best just to stick with the answer that was giving.
Having his hand extended to shake hers politely, she instead traced her eyes along his digits all the way to his palm and all the lines inbetween. Jason smiled warmly, her jesture bringing back fond memories. A few seconds passed where she simply looked at his hand before placing her own within his grasp. Such an odd girl.. And such a nice change from the normal Snakes.. Firmly, but not too roughly, Jason shook her hand and matched his gaze with hers as the exchange took place.
A minute of silence.
Soon came his voice through the dark, soft yet powerful as the words left his lips, "Jason Walker."

“. . . I’m just exploring.”
“Just exploring?” She flashed the faintest of smiles. Like a private joke, it slipped away without much question. Jin herself didn’t even know why she had grinned. It was a spontaneity thing, suppose.
Jin glanced up again and noticed a charming grin on the other’s face, albeit slightly distant as if gazing at some fond memory. Before she could delve further, though, the boy shook her hand. The hand- his hand -felt strange to her. Outworldy. Unbelonging. But it was pleasant enough. (She had never shaken hands before- her culture considered frivolous physical contact impolite. Odd.) However, despite the years of such cultural differentiation, Jin kept herself from cringing. It was a proud moment.
“Jason Walker,” said he, the darkest angel.
“. . . Jin,” replied the cherub.
He had pretty eyes. When the gaze had poked at her, she almost stiffened. The irises were light, but charred. Youthful, yet not! Their eyes locked, and if but for a second, the two were the bestest of friends. Mhm, surely he was well-mannered. Astounding. And she thought most of these outlanders were barbarians.
Jin suddenly became aware of a owl mourning in the treetops. It hooted with depression latched to every call, and then the sound of wings carried it farther away. The wind was cold to-night.
“Well, we’ve both been interrupted in whichever we’d been doing, so now what?” A giggle escaped her.

“. . . Jin,” replied the cherub. Ah, a cherub indeed. Her skin looked like porcelain when the moonlight hit it. But enough of the distant day dreaming, they were in the forest fter all. And the forest was not a place to be caught off guard, especially since it held many dangers that could easily prove fatal for our two characters.
“Well, we’ve both been interrupted in whichever we’d been doing, so now what?” A giggle escaped her soft lips.
"Well.. we could always venture deeper within the forest.. or turn back. Either way, it's bound to yield an interesting result." The Slytherin replied while scanning their surroundings. His darkened eyes darted from side to side, and even up to the tops of the trees before returning to the ground below and then finally settle back onto Jin.
