It was late evening or early morning. Whichever you prefer to call it. The moon shone bright, casting shadows into Gladrags as Ashlee stood near a window peering at the lifeless night. Ashlee had developed a case of insomnia as the days grew since she last saw him. Every minute they spent apart from each other was a minute she wasted on worrying. She knew she had more important things to attend to, mainly her shop, but the longer she went without a letter, the more she couldn't bother.
A few boxes sat in the center of the store; their contents waiting to be put away. She had begun to restock the shelves when a shadow walking the streets had caught her attention. There she stood, at the window like she had been for the past hour. Was it him? She didn't know.
Her eyes began to grow tired as she let the curtain fall from her grasp, blocking out the moonlight. Turning away from the window, Ashlee turned on a nearby lamp which instantly illuminated the store. If she wasn't going to sleep, she was going to work. Kneeling on the floor, she pulled out a few garments one by one, folding them before placing them in neat piles. She knew she should be in bed, her body was yelling at her and she was even shaking from lack of sleep but her thoughts and nightmares kept her from slumber.
AJ's eyes began to feel heavy as she sat there on the cold, wood floor. In minutes, her head had drooped and her hands had fallen to her lap and lay lifeless. She was asleep.
Click.
It was the sound of a door unlocking.
