McNiven looked stony faced at Cromwell as he refused his drink, that was a slight set back but he was sure things could be sorted out another way, however he was slightly reassured when he mentioned that he would not report him to the ministry.
“I am shocked ye think that you think you would need to report me to your ministry buddies…but even more so that ya think I am gay.”
McNiven gave a small laugh and turned to Elijah suddenly becoming aware that the lad was still standing behind him. He looked like he wanted to run and hide under the nearest table at the prospect of talking to a Ministry official, maybe he just needed to get a drink down his throat. Spinning around on his bar stool McNiven took Elijah by the arm and pulled him down in the seat next to him and ordered a double fire whisky for him. With a weary smile McNiven turned to look at Cromwell again.
“Ye will have to excuse me nephew, he is a bit of a southern wimp and seems to lack the ability to socialize.”
McNiven gave the young lad a supposed affectionate smack on the back but he used a fair amount of force almost as a warning to the youngest member of the league to act more mature, now was the chance for him to prove himself that he was good enough and at the moment it was not working.

He laughed at the term buddies as he swigged down another water. "Buddies, aye I suppose you could say that. Buddies can usually be considered short term." He was certainly loyal to the ministry now but once they started losing the war, who knew? Alex wasn't against selling his loyalty and his information to the highest bidder. "And I have no doubt that you've done something the ministry disapproves of.
"Well," said Alex smirking slightly. "When you're a lad as handsome as I you get used to gaining attention from both genders. When people ask to buy unknown acquaintance a drink it's usually the case that they are trying to hit on said individual." He said with a smile then looked at McNiven in the eye. "Can't think of any other reason why one lad would want to get another lad drunk." He wordlessly felt for his wand once more and smiled as he felt that it was still in his back pocket. He moved his hands up to the counter once more, no need to worry anyone.
He smiled at the younger boy who looked more sulky than scared if anything. "Indeed, he does look a bit worried don't he. Still, I'm not pathetic enough for the ministry to send after students. That's a job for worthless ministry officials with nothing better to do. I myself am far too talented for that sort of thing."
