Dan was convinced he should not be feeling like this, Dia had ended with him, Bree had told him to leave her alone he needed to move on, there was nothing to feel guilty about. But here was Dan Hubbles feeling ashamed for looking at another woman and thinking things that any man would in the same situation…he needed to move on and get over everything. At the sound of Carrie’s voice Dan swore to himself that this is just what he would do, he needed to get over Dia Owen sooner then later.
“It is a beautiful night…” He clenched his jaw and took a deep breath feeling slight tense all of a sudden “…but it is not the only beautiful thing I can see.”
He gave Carrie a soft smile and had to stop himself from shooting her a playful wink like he always used to. In his mind the wink should only be used when trying to get into someone’s knickers almost to sweeten the deal, and this is not what he was trying to do with Carrie. They were going to have a professional relationship and if that meant that on one occasion they shared an innocent kiss then so be it, it should not offend anyone after all they were both free agents.
It was then Dan noticed that Carrie was looking at his neck; automatically he raised his hand to it to make sure he had nothing on it but his hand ran over a rough patch of skin where a cut at been only a few days ago. With a nervous laugh Dan turned to look at Carrie noticing she was looking at him inquisitively.
“It is only a small scratch from the other week when I was attacked in Hogsmeade. Mr Nish luckily was passing so with the aid of my cousin he was able to get me back to the castle and stitch me up again...I told you that you shall be seeing a lot of me in the Hospital Wing.”
Lowering his hand Dan shrugged his shoulders almost to say that it did not matter and was not worth the fuss. Dan had a habit of falling in with the wrong crowd, his want to be popular with everyone he met normally meant he ended up regretting a few things in the morning but it made him more friends then enemies so that always seemed like a fair trade in his eyes.

Carrieanne had watched him prior to face the window, which had made her turn her head as well wondering what he was doing. Normally any woman would have known what he was going to do,but it had been so long since her last relationship that she wasn't able to figure it out. Her brown eyes still gazing out the window and swept over the land below. She had asked about the night and wasn't expecting the answer he was about to give her.
Sharply turning her head after hearing his comment and looked deeply into his eyes, you never truly notice how nice someone's eyes were until you were standing right in front of them. A smile pursed her lips as she replied back in a soft tone "I guess it's true, an ugly duckling can turn into a swan." she glanced down at his lips seeing a smile forming from one side to the other, which made a smile creas her lips.
As Carrieanne studied Dan who was now not only but a few inches away from her, she took notice of a scar that rested upon his neck then looked back up at him as he touched it and began to explain. A soft chuckle escaped her lips when he mentioned that she would be seeing him a lot, all she could do was nod then said "Well, you did mention that earliers in tonight's conversation." she said as she turned toward him and ran her finger gently over the scar then looked at him with another smile.
Also remembering that earlier in the conversation that she would kiss any boo boo that he received, she leaned up on her tip toes and kissed the scar. Moving away slowly as she looked back at him, a smaller smile creased her lips. "There...." she paused as she looked into his eyes once again "All better." her tone was soft spoken when she talked. Moving her hand down his shoulder and released it at his elbow, she turned back and faced the window figuring since he showed her his, she might as well show hers.
"Well, you're not the only one with battle scars." she smirked then let a long drawn out sigh escape her lips. Unbuttoning her shirt down from the top, she stopped at the middle and pulled the shirt to the side and showed the longated scar on her side "A sword did this and this.." she said slipping her shirt down off her shoulders to reveal a branded burn on her skin of with the letter D marked on it. "That was from my grandfather, he burnt me with a branding stick with the letter D to remind me of what my last name meant to me. I was fourteen at the time that happened." she explained.
As she turned back around to face him and slid the lining of her jeans down just where her hip and thigh met to show him the scar that was left there "And that was from the same spell that the girl used upon you, except..." she paused closing her eyes as she remembered exactly what happened "My ex gave this one..." as she said it the picture of what happend played through her mind making her want to wince as she could still remember what it felt like. A long sigh escaped her lips as she opened her eyes and looked up into his and lifted her jeans back up around her slender form.
Carrieanne buttoned her shirt back up and when she finished, she glanced over at her coffee and picked it up to take a drink. It felt like her throat had started to dry in the worst of times, but as soon as she felt the warm liquid trace her throat coating it with moisture, she set the cup back down on the windowsil and looked over at Dan meeting his eyes with her own. Glancing back out the window feeling her lips still wet from the coffee, she licked her lips and then took another glance at Dan giving him a soft smile. The sparkling lake below had caught Carrieanne's attention briefly, she turned her head and watched he moonlight dance upon the waters surface.

Dan felt her lips touch the side of his neck, his heart stopped and he closed his eyes just letting the sensation fill him. It had been so long since he had been kissed by someone in such a way, he did not care if it lasted for only a second it was the most contact he had had with a female in such a long time, it almost spurred him on to want more. This temptation was only increased when Carrie began to unbutton her top to show her war scars, his heart was pounding in his chest and Dan went weak at the knees when she pulled the top of her jeans down slightly.
Although by this point Dan was only thinking of one thing he still took in the severity of her scars. The sword, the branding and the attack by an ex-lover all sounded like they had potential for being a good tale but at the moment he did not feel it appropriate to ask, he could find out another time or Carrie can tell him when she is ready to. When she started to drink her coffee once more all Dan could do was stand and stare at her with a small smile on his face. Thoughts in his mind were whirling around so quickly he could not think straight but that did not matter he was going to move on off Dia and he was going to do that with the help of Carrieanna.
“Well you ex is a fool…”Dan took a few steps forward so he was closer to Carrie and his voice dropt into hushed tones. “If I were him I would never have been foolish enough to let you go, let alone hurt you.”
These were rich words coming from Dan seeing as he had promised the same thing to another before and he had meant it that time but yet he still ruined it all and let the love of his life go. He was only inches away from her face, he could feel the warm of her breath against his skin and all Dan could do was look deeply into his eyes. His eyes seemed to be searching for some form of answer, his hands started to tremble as he thought about what he was about to do, after this moment there would be no turning back. Swallowing hard Dan reached out and with one hand took hold of her coffee and wrapped the other around her, gently pulled her even closer to him. Then slowly he lowered his head and kissed Carrie gently on the lips.
