Jac looked at the y Hufflepuff. Typical, Jac huffed to herself, they always think they know everything! She rolled her eyes and before she could retort again, Fagin spoke. Five more points in the bag! Yes! Jac was on a roll today and was so happy about that.
"That's easy," Jac said, "everyone knows that the Minister deals directly with the muggle Prime Minister. Of course that's only when the Minister of Magic feels it's the right thing to do for the magical community and not when it's right for the muggles."
Jac glared at the Hufflepuff for a moment, then turned back to the professor and added, "Prof, what exactly did we do during WWII? I mean that was a pretty big war, we couldn't have stayed neutral, could we?" She looked enquiringly at the professor with her fingers locked, elbows leaning on the desk in front of her.

Olivia really had no ideas who the ministry was linked to. But one answer seemed logical. The Ministry of Magic would need to be linked with some important muggle leader. It would seem logical that they would want a large group to know about the wizarding community, just one person, and why not go all the way to the top? Even if her answer was wrong, Olivia had thought it out logically. And if they weren't in contact with the Prime Minister, according to Liv's thought process, they should be.
But of course, Liv had put way to much thought into the topic, and the Gryffindor girl beat her to it. Olivia sighed. Oh well, she wasn't in a battle of wits, it was class. She had a feeling though that the Gryffindor was dueling her, but Olivia wasn't going to fall into that game.
"Yes, Professor, that would be interesting." Olivia said, looking at the Gryffindor, trying to tell her that she wasn't trying to duel for points, and that she really thought it would be interesting to learn about what the wizarding community did during WWII.

Maeve sighed and wandered into the Muggle Studies Classroom. She wasn't taking the class but she was sent by someone. "Professor Fagin, deputy head morely would like to see you immediately." And with that, she walked out of the classroom.

Fagin chortled along with his class, for once they were surprising him an giving him brilliant answers, well he was a tad drunk so exaggeration was clearly in order. "Ding ding, another five points Missy and a damn good difficult question to boot." Raising his eyebrows he scratched his beard pondering for a moment; "well it depends who you believe, the Ministry of course will never admit to having done anything to aid either side, we can't really be certain but rumours at the time flew aroudn that some witches and wizards chose sides and actually did battle, mainly as healers so they could utilise their magic without being seen, you know what muggles can be like, hang them by the neck till dead. Not nice I've seen it happen." He lied pretending to stangle himself by hooking a hand over his neck and making quite disturbingly real noises of someone dying.
"Terrible, it all depends on who you can believe, sources are biased and it's really difficult to decipher who actually told the truth, so in effect we can never really know; only stimulate."
Scratching his beard once more he added "purebloods o' course wouldn't lift a finger to help a dying muggle, right or wrong I'll leave you to make your own mind up. But its been said that some witches and wizards did heed the call, on both sides. All stimuluation mind you."
Clearing his throat he was about to pose another question when one of his delightful Slytherins entered. "Late!" Screeched Fagin in disbelief, "one of my own house, its an outrage." Before she could curtail and run he slammed the door, sealing off her escape. On hearing what she said his mood only worsened "Well you can tell 'er Missy I've a class to finish first, and if'n you don't relay that message I'll have ye guts for garters, you should be in this class learning not running round like a headless chicken relaying orders, if you're not in the next one you've a month of floor scrubbing."
(ooc I couldn't let you just leave that would have spoiled all the fun)

Maeve turned back around. Guess going back to my common room and going back to sleep isn't an option at the moment. Maeve nodded in his direction. "Yes, sir." She visably gulped, even though she knew he was half-joking... or hoped.
She hadn't spent one time in this class yet, even if she did like a few muggle things. She'd come next time for sure, she didn't want to get stuck with scrubbing floors. In fact, maybe she should stay a little longer in this class right now. She deicded on the latter, finding an open chair next to a Gryffindor and sat. "How about I stay for a bit longer to prepare for next time?" she half-smiled. Certain teachers she liked to tick off, her own Head wasn't one of them.

Fagin smirked, just as he had predicted, people rarely stood up to him for long; not if they knew what was good for them at least, because Fagin was like a bad smell, he'd just keep coming, and he did actually smell quite rotten too. He blamed his house, somebody should have brought him some aftershave for Christmas, but all he'd received was booze from the older ones and chocolates from the little kids. Now that had been a good year his house really did treat him well from time to time. So he treated them well too, for Fagin at least.
"I thought so," he commented wryly chuckling to himself. "Now where were we? Ah yes, muggles that must have been it. Can anyone tell me the name of the department that deals with muggles?" It was a simple question and the way this class was going it would be a doddle for them. Hopefully a student would add extra detail to earn some more points, they were all so obsessed with winning house points it did make his life so much easier; their eagerness.

Maeve thought on that for a while. She knew of some departments that had some contact with muggles. She wasn't stupid just because she had been skipping this class. Raising her hand slightly, she said, "Isn't that the Department of Magical Law Enforcement?" she asked a little hesitantly. "Because they have the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts and that requires contact with muggles to aquire such items."
Maeve looked at her Head of House. "They also have the Improper Use of Magic Offices, to refrain us from using magic outside Hogwarts at a young age so we don't do something stupid in front of muggles." she added. She thought she may be wrong, but it was worth a shot to her.
"But then there's the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. They also deal with muggles if and when we do something stupid. They have the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee and the Reversal Squad to undo the mistakes we did." Maeve continued. "So they also must come in to contact with muggles to obliviate their minds and create a story stupid enough for them to believe."

Fagin yawned as the girl regailed the entirity of which departments had any tiniest little bit of contact with the muggle world; which was quite a few.
"Well you just said a lot of fancy titles which I presume are correct as I can't be bothered to check them all up I'll just go ahead and give you five points. You'd have had more only you're a little too derogatory of muggles, they're really not so stupid as you seem to think they are."

Maeve sighed. "I'm sorry if I seem to think they're stupid. That's how I was raised. But, I don't think they're stupid, sir. At least not the majority of them." she shrugged. "Anyway, why'd you ask what magical department as contact with muggles? Is that what today's lesson is on; why we have to come into contact with them?" She completely forgot about going back to her common room. She was now quite interested in learning more.

Fagin felt a touch exasperated with his little Slytherin, she was asking unecessary questions. "You'd know the lesson was on the broad topic of the Ministry's various dealings with Muggles throughout the ages if you'd been here at the start," he scolded clearly annoyed that she hadn't arrived on time and had been loath to come at all. At least now he interest seemed to be perked a little, perhaps she would spread that word to her fellow Slytherins that Muggle Studies wasn't such a waste of time afterall.
"It's true though, many witches and wizards have been brought up on biased views and prejudices, I urge you all to make your own minds on muggles by experience with them, that's why next week I'll be bringing one in for you, now I don't want you scaring the life out of 'em mind, any spells on them and you'll suffer the dire consequences, so homework for next week is to prepare for the upcoming muggle experience."
As the class seemed to give a collective sigh of relief that the lesson was over Fagin added "Don't pack your things away yet! We're not done, Miss Malfoy raised a good point actually why we have to come into contact with them? Can you answer your own question with a bit of thinking behind it?" He asked giving her the floor.

"You say that as if I don't try to put some thinking behind my answers." Which is half the time I talk. she added in her mind.
Maeve nodded slightly. She had been asking for that, hadn't she? She thought a bit on her own question. "Well, I can name a few small reasons why. One would be if the ministry decided to take away our wand and restricted us from ever using magic again, we would have to know how to live with the muggles." she said hesitantly.
"Also, some jobs require contact, obviously from the departments I listed a while ago. And so, if we'd decide to take act in the ministry for any of those departments, we would need to have contact with them." she took a small breathe. "There are also other jobs, such as yours, teaching about muggles. If ever you were to want to have accurate information to teach, there must've been some time or another that you'd have contact with one."
She thought a bit more. "If we were to want to learn more and advance our knowledge on muggles, we could always try to...I don't know....ask them without making too big of a scene."
Wow, I'm probably making myself look like an idiot. Oh well. I'm most likely not thinking about half these answers, as always. So he's right about me trying to put some thought. It's just not working. she sighed mentally. "We also have friends that are muggleborns and half-bloods, so naturally, we'd want to meet their family, therefore coming in contact with muggles."
She shrugged. "I most likely just ranted, right?" she asked with a slight laugh.

As Miss Malfoy preceeded to give a long and flowing answer to her own proposed question he chuckled to himself, it was times liek these when his presence barely seemed necessary and they just taught themselves; it made his life so much simpler.
"If that's a rant then it makes surprisingly good sense. You've brought up some interesting points so I'll award 10 points for your rant."
The only problem was that Miss Malfoy had covered the points in sufficient detail, he really didn't need to add much more to her ramblings, as in a roundabout yet down to earth fashion she had informed them all quite fluently; he was impressed with her willingness to not hate muggles so, but he reminded himself, other houses didn't hate them so why should she be treated any differently?
"I'm sure you've all heard enough of my voice, giving you difficult questions so we'll move onto a writing essay, as you'll need to prove your capabilities in not just a spoken exam where I'll be firing killer questions your way, but also a longer extended writing essay paper. So unless you've anymore questions? Imagine a difficult circumstance between a say a young witch or wizard and a group of muggles, who had seen fit to pick a fight with them, of course being inexperienced the magical student retaliates in whatever way you see fit. You arrive on the scene, as a member of the Department for Magical Law Enforcement, they'd like as not be first there, seeing as though they've the biggest office and workforce, anyway, how are you going to deal with the situation? Not just a reversal spell on the muggles, that's just plain obvious, but how will you deal with the student and deter them from doing such a rash action again? Be as imaginative as possible, funny stories are always welcome. Now unless you've anymore pressing questions? Begin"
Sinking into his armchair placed at the front of the busy classroom, Fagin lit his pipe the tendrails of smoke soon wreathing the entire room, though he did make some interesting patterns with it; puffing out varying sizes of smoke rings.
(ooc 20 points will be awarded per essay, don't feel pressured into completing one, feel free to ask anymore questions)
