Stacey had just come back fresh from the library. It was still morning, and not long until dinnertime. Walking into the common room, she closed the door carefully behind her. Being a sunday, people in the dorms didn't take kindly to being woken by a slamming door early on a sunday as she had found out over the years.
Crossing the common room floor, she took in the surroundings of the different shades of blue that flooded the room, and for once, nobody was in the common room. Taking to her favourite seat right next to a long window, Stacey gave a small smile to herself. It was a sunny morning and it could of been straight out of a disney movie as birds could be heard out the window when she leant over to open it slightly, letting light and air flood into the room.
Settling down back into her seat, a rather comfy throne if you will, Stacey wiggled her back deep into the back of it and curled her legs next to her bum. Opening the new book on 'random and useless facts' she had just picked up from the library, she placed it in her lap and began to read.

On a day like this, silence had enveloped the common room like the wings of an angel, wrapping themselves around the walls and calming everything inside into a dreamlike state. It wasn't the first time Katya felt truly alone. She was but a ghost, a whisper in the world with nothing except air on her lips and frustration brewing in her belly. She woke up this morning and opened her mouth, stretching her arms over her head and yawning, quiet as mice. Or rather, quieter. No one saw her, no one noticed her. She was a chameleon, yet one hell of a witch. There was so much she wished to tell everyone, but once again, no way she could write down all her hopes, her dreams.. Her thoughts on certain people, or her past. Her feelings on how she couldn't speak, or who she might have a crush on. Day to day, its excrutiating to get up after falling down so much.
Sunday, like all the other days ending in y, was uneventful. A few good grades back from some assignments, an excellently performed spell.. Not much to report. Katya had remained under the radar since her first year at the school, no wonder she had no friends to hang out with. It wasn't her personal choice, either. She was so outgoing, it was just hard to get her point across.
Slipping on a white flowing dress that reached just past her knees, a few bracelets, and her favorite jean jacket, Katya descended down the stairs a while before Stacey arrived. She was sitting in a comfy armchair in one corner of the room, completely unnoticed, closing her eyes and just breathing silently. Her entire body was still, no wonder Kieler hadn't seen or heard her. It was only after the Ravenclaw girl propped herself up and starting reading a book when Katya realised someone else was there with her. Tilting her head to the side, much like a puppy who's interest had been sparked, the fifth year stood up, slowly walking over to her, a cautious smile on her face.

Stacey heard the sound of movement. Looking up from her book, she saw a girl known as Kitty walking over to her. Smiling, she felt a little guilty for not noticing she was there. Her denim jacket must of blended in with the colours of the room, and her hair, well, Stacey must of misplaced it as the brightness of the sun.
Placing her book down, placing her hands on top. Watching her come nearer, she gave her a friendly smile. "Hi, erm, Kitty isn't it? Sorry I didn't notice you, your jacket blended in with the room" she gave a little guilty laugh. Leaning over and pulling a stool from next to her and placing it infront of her, she motioned to her to sit so they could have a conversation. Stacey was determined now to not be another student who blocked her out of their lives. The poor girl must find it so hard.
"Have you ever read this before?" she asked, lifting up and pointing to her book. When Stacey had observed Kitty before in random situations with others, she saw people talking slower and louder to her, as if it would help her understand. She thought it was stupid of them, and she wasn't about to belittle her like that.

{ Shh, not everyone knows shes mute. They just think shes a freak that doesn't talk and likes to stay hidden. xD Dont let anyone know just yet. }
A little surprised that the other girl new her name - though pronouncing it wrong, as everyone did, Katya had come to accept it as a sort of nickname - she let out a silent gasp, turning her head away so the other girl perhaps wouldn't notice it. Turning back once she was sure her face was welcoming, and not shellshocked, the Ravenclaw nodded at the first question, drawing closer with small, graceful steps. Sitting on the stool now, she leaned over to get a good look at the book. Random and useless facts? Why would they make a novel about such a thing? Was a big statement floating throughout her mind at the moment, as she wrinkled her nose and shook her head. Realising the facts must have a hint of humor in them, she decided it might not be that bad a read.
' You're Stacey, right? ' Kitty mouthed, trying to form the words but finding she was unable to, for the millionth time. Not many students at the school could lip-read very well, how would this housemate do? She might have to write everything down, if she couldn't understand. Damn.

(Oh sorry! I didn't realise)
Stace looked back at the book cover when the girl looked over to it too, after a second or so, her eyes flicked back onto her and Stacey gave her a smile. Watching her mouth something, she just made it out.
"Yeah, yeah I am" she smiled, in triumph of someone knowing who she was, and that she could actually lipread. Come to think of it, she'd always been pretty good at lipreading. Over the years she had learnt to switch her hearing off when teachers talked and just watched their movement of their lips. She found it most useful when she was pretending to read the class books when infact she had something more interesting concealed within the books.
Putting her attention back to the book, she gave a slight laugh. "I know it's a bit strange, but I love knowing about random stuff, i'm not really a braniac in the school department" she confessed to her.

{ Heh, no problem. ^^ }
Seemingly delighted and pleased at even the tiniest snippet of communication passed between them, Katya nodded and smiled, her expression dazzling. Could it be possible.. There was a chance she might make some friends here? Time would tell, but she couldn't deny the relief and joy on her face. She toned it down a little though, no need to scare the girl off, right? Peering over at the page again, glimpsing a few facts about strange creatures and animal catastrophes, the let out a silent laugh at one, ' It is not strange. ' She disagreed with her; Katya was strange. One, she had a pretty Russian way of speaking English, and two, she was mute. Nothing more wierd or abnormal than that.
' Have you found any thins of interest in there? ' Katya wondered aloud, or rather, silently aloud. Actually, thats a wierd way of putting it, but oh well. Beggers cant be choosers, right? Right. Linking her fingers together, the light silver on her long nails catching the light and sparkling, the fifth year wondered if she was making her parents proud by finally trying one more time at conversation. If only they could see her now, or who she would turn out to be. This would make them so happy.

She saw the delight that seemed to of swept across Katya's face. Seeing this made Stacey happy, and a smile soon spread across her features in reply. Watching Katya's lips, it seemed crystal clear to Stacey what she was saying, just like she was actually whispering those words in her ear.
"Other Ravenclaw's think i'm a bit weird. I'm not really like them in the normal way, I pretty much suck at classes, but other stuff like this, that's a different story" she said patting her book once again.
"Yeah, There's some funny things about some famous wizards and witches in here that are worth a read, and a laugh" she said, looking down to flick through to find the page where she had read it. It was only a little pocket paperback book, but it was sure interesting for Stace. Finding the page, she 'ah ha'd' in triumph and turned the book around and handed it to Katya so she could read it. Stace hoped it would make her laugh as much as it did her.

A look of incredibility swept across her descriptive expression, as her lovely features molded into that of a laugh, ' You are joking, yes? It takes more than intelligence to land in Ravenclaw. ' There was wit, too. Probably more things, but she couldn't quite recall them at the moment. As for the book.. ' I will look in the library for it. ' Katya mouthed, deciding it was worth a read then and there. Might as well trust her housemate's judgement, their tastes seemed similar enough.
There was so many things she wanted to tell her, about her homeland, her past.. Her family! The potatoes she ate at every meal back home, and how she loved the cuisine here. But most of all.. ' What classes do you like? ' Katya wanted to know about Stacey. All her friends, what classes she liked, her favorite color, her favorite animal.. Her favorite spells. Stuff like that. Bits and pieces of information that seemed so random and insignificant to everyone else, however, it meant alot to her. Knowing things about people. Watching them. It sounds creepy at first, but Katya is extremely observant. She loved to observe people, noticing their movements, the way their eyes sparkle when they spoke to someone whose company they enjoyed. The little things. Yeah, they mattered the most.

Stacey simply nodded as Katya mouthed the words. She snuggled back into her chair and curled up in it once more. Seeing Katya mouth words about classes, Stace raised an eyebrow.
"Classes?" she repeated. "Oh, erm...I'm not sure really, they all have good and bad points. I don't think I have a favourite" she stated. It was true, she liked certain parts of each lesson, like certain fascinating creatures in Care of Magical Creatures, or a a handy spell or two in Charms, but not one would be classed as her favourite lesson. Just little snippets of information that she liked to contain.
"How about you?" she questioned. Stacey was pretty suprised that she could have such a conversation with the mute girl, and how quickly she picked up on what she was saying, or attempting too. She had so many questions for her, but they were to be saved until they were both a little more comfortable in each others presence, and when they knew each other better. For now, all that mattered was that neither of them felt different.
She realised that the poor girl probably had so many thoughts going through her head that she couldn't and would never be able to express. Stace thought of all the frustration the girl was probably under. If it was her, she would of been driven mad by now. The girl must of been strong-willed to be able to keep sane and level headed.

Balancing herself on the stool, Katya crossed her legs, resting her pale palms on her knees. She tilted her head to the side, making that curiosity-spurred look of a small puppy. What were the names again? ' Divination, and.. Care of Magical Creatures. ' There were some others, but they weren't her favorite-favorites, so they probably weren't worth mentioning.
' I am wondering.. Why is there a Dark Arts class at this school? ' Weren't Dark Arts forbidden to learn? It should be reserved for the worst of the worst, like more than a few people in Slytherin. Those who considered themselves true - insert air quotes here - Slytherins, anyway. She didn't feel like indulging where the curiosity for this came from, or why, but all Katya was really wondering was why. To teach children about the Dark Arts could possibly turn them evil, could it not?
Flicking her eyes towards Stacey's, Katya guessed she was thinking something about her. Whatever it may be, it was probably true; the frustration, the trouble.. All of it. It was a wonder she kept a level head. Though she wouldn't admit it just yet, it was nice to have someone understand.

"Wow, you have more of an attention span than me then!" she said unknowingly quietly. Stacey couldn't concentrate on something unless it caught her attention. It was then that Stacey noticed Katya mouthing something about Dark Arts Classes and why they were being taught.
"Yeah, I'm not sure either. I think it's pretty dangerous, It's pure evil. The classes are just full of Slytherins". Surely Hogwarts shouldn't be promoting bad behaviour and especially studying it. However, Stacey just kept clear of it, and hopefully attending D.A.D.A classes would be more beneficial for her in the future.
"Do you mind if I ask about your family?" she questioned, shifting in her seat. She was always a fidget, and always ended up with a numb bum. Pushing herself up, she quickly brought her feet down to the floor, never taking her eyes off Katya incased she missed her speaking. Deciding once again that she was uncomfy, she crossed her legs in the chair.

This caused Katya to smile, as she stretched her fingers out, willing away the stiffness that had overcome them. Clasping them together again, she let out a silent yawn, eyes twinkling as Stacey began on the next answer. Slytherins and evil? Well that was nothing new. ' I am not one to gossip, but, I overheard a Slytherin girl saying the professor used an unforgiveable curse on a Hufflepuff. ' That wasn't aloud, right? Sheesh, she should have payed more attention to the no-nos and the go-aheads at this school. But you could understand what kept her preoccupied; spells alone were a little more difficult to master when you couldn't ask questions on what you were doing. You have to write it down, show the professor, then write more things down if you didn't understand. Ect etc, yada yada.. And life rolled on.
' My family. ' Katya repeated silently, seeming to stare up at the ceiling, inwardly remembering. ' Not at all. ' No need to be bashful, they were friends somewhat, right? ' I have a small family. They live in Russia. ' Pausing, she added, ' I look like my mother. ' with a dreamy, off quality about her expression. ' They.. How say it? Have no magic. ' Mentally kicking herself for the sudden bout of Russian garble, Katya shook it off, glad the sentence came out at least a little understandable. Not meaning to be rude, she added, ' What about your family? '

"I overheard a Slytherin girl saying the professor used an unforgiveable curse on a Hufflepuff"
Stacey's jaw dropped. She'd not heard that little piece of gossip before, it was news to her. A frown spread across her tanned features and seemed to even make it's way on to her mouth. "That's crazy! He can't do that to anyone, nevermind a damn student!" she gasped in shock. Her voice had become really high and dramatic, and she was outraged and quite frankly a little scared incase something like that ever happened again. After a moments pause and her cogs ticking on what probably most likely happened in the class, she looked back up at Katya.
"Has anybody informed the Headmaster? Or even Professor Hubbles?" she enquired, although she knew Katya probably had no idea in the affairs of the Hufflepuff house. Even if the Dark Arts professor had cursed a Slytherin, it was still wrong. But in this case, he had singled out a 'Puff because apparantely they were victims and were seen as weaklings who were only there to be pushed around and bossed about; the losers of Hogwarts. That's how Slytherin's saw them anyway.
Realising she had been going off on a tangent, she shook her head as if her ranblings were visible and could be shaken from her head. "Russia huh? I bet you had a beautiful accent" she said a little awkwardly, not sure whether to say she had or has. It was a little difficult in the situation to tell if she was offended. "Well, i'm from California. My mother died giving birth to me, so I've been brought up with my dad; Just me and him. I had a good upbringing, even though it was a little rough sometimes" she admitted with a shrug.

Fascinated at the sudden burst of anger in Stacey's voice, Katya leaned away a little, watching her rant without complaint. ' I do not think anyone has told, but the headmaster might already know. I highly doubt the professor would risk his job doing that without permission. ' She mouthed with a frown, looking off somewhere in thought. He couldn't be that foolish. Even an infant would know that. Well, perhaps not an infant, but with someone who possessed an IQ below, well, the lowest IQ. She didn't like to be a tattletale, but this was pretty serious. Then again, it was better not to act rashly. Caught between what to do, Katya frowned again, confused.
Smiling sadly, she nodded, ' Yes.. I miss it. ' Stacey seemed a little cautious saying this, as if it might offend her. Shaking her head with a smile, clearly saying it wasn't derogatory in the least, the Ravenclaw listened as she told about her story. ' I have never been to California. ' She mused, then, ' It makes you stronger. You're a better person, because you have lived through hardships and know you would never want to bring them upon anyone else. ' At least it was true in her case, anyway. She smiled.

“Oh well, I suppose we can’t personally do anything. It would be up to the girl he cast it on”. Sighing, she leant back, and noticed Katya’s facial expressions. Remembering she just sort of had an outburst, she raised her eyebrows.
“Sorry about that, I just think the school system is stupid sometimes. I just can’t believe they would allow that, and letting other students view it like it was a theater play” she said. Folding her arms back into her lap, she picked at her jeans trim at the bottom of her leg.
“California? It’s nothing special, just very sunny all the time. I mean it’s nice and all, but there are nicer places in the world, I’m sure Russia is one of them.” Thinking about it, she remembered pictures of places around Russia she had seen throughout the years. Smiling to herself, she realised how pretty it actually looked, and how nice it much look to view it with your own two eyes.
“So tell me about Russia, what’s it like exactly?” she asked, opening up her thoughts to Katya. It seemed so easy to her to do so.
