This was the first time since arriving at the castle that May had left her office, other than to get food to survive. She didn't know why she had been so shy, but it seemed hard for her to accept that she wouldn't get in trouble for things like walking around after hours anymore. So when she had left her room with a book and headed to the staff room, it was quite an unusual sight. Sitting down casually and keeping to herself, May cracked open the book she had brought with her. No one could complain, at least she was out of her room. Who said she had to talk to anyone, anyhow?
Sighing, she looked up and spotted a few teachers. Mayella couldn't really place a name with a face, and wasn't surprised. It seemed like half the teachers were new, and none were from when she went to Hogwarts 6 years ago. 'Oh that makes me feel so old.' She thought bitterly and returned her attention to the book in front of her which was, of course, on Quidditch.

Hikaru wandered into the staff room, flopping down into a chair he sighed. He had no idea being the new teacher would be so hard! Then he noticed a young woman in the room as well. "Oh hello there, I did not see you there. I'm Hikaru Tanaka." he said with a weary smile.

[gah, I always think of Hikaru no Go when someone says Hikaru. ] [awesome anime about Go.] Just as May was turning a page, someone disturbed her. She wasn't surprised, it was only a matter of time before someone asked why an unfamiliar face such as herself would be sitting in the staff room. "Hello," She said, looking up and spotting the young man who must've addressed her. "I'm Mayella Reed, I teach Transfiguration here." May smiled back at him, not wanting to be rude or seem inept at being social.

Hikaru returned the smile, "Nice to meet you Mayella. I teach Occlumency."

May nodded at the man. "Occlumency, aye? Guess times have changed since I went to school," She laughed a little, though regretted in incase she insulted Hikaru. "Makes me feel old."

Hikaru laughed. "I don't think I could ever feel old! Then again, I still act like a kid most days."

[ Haha. I just checked and their the same age. xD ]
Mayella laughed. "Don't worry, It'll catch up to you, little guy." She hunched over a bit, making her best imitation of her old mum and silently hoping no one else saw. "You back'll hurt for no reason, easy spells and charms will take longer, you'll forget where you left your socks five minutes ago." May straightened up and smiled, "Of course, I'm not that old. I'm not old at all, believe it!"

Hikaru laughed, "Merlin kill me if I ever get that old!" He grinned, "I didn't think you were that old. You look to be about my age in fact."

Mayella laughed along with him. "Well, it's quite possible. But by then you'll be counting minute, you know?" She smiled, even though it was somewhat irritating to her that they were talking about age. "Yeah, I'd probably guess you're about my age, but being a lady, I'd never tell how old I am!"
"So then, I'm guessing you're a relatively new teacher also? I wouldn't know, since I don't really know the staff, though." She smiled, he looked young enough that he couldn't have been teaching for long. So in a way, she couldn't be wrong.. and Occlumency wasn't taught when she went to Hogwarts.

May nodded. "Ah, so I didn't arrive much before you. Me and Professor Bourke, I don't know if you've seen him or not. Personally, I think he only comes out of the greenhouses to visit me. Then I chase him off. What was I saying? ..Oh yes! Me and Professor Bourke, the herbology teacher, came on the same day not too long ago." She said, smiling fondly when thinking about Trav, and then frowned a bit. "There sure are a lot of staff changes lately, personally, I blame this whole Ministry-Rogue mess.. it's a nasty out there."

(Mind if I join in the party?)
Dan’s last lesson had not gone quite how he would have planned, he was preparing first years for their end of year exams and they were practising making fruit dance across the tables. But something extraordinary kept on happening...the fruit kept bursting into flames resulting in his charms room smelling of burnt fruit salad which after a while goes give you a slight headache. So instead he headed to the staff room to get a bit of peace and quite and some relatively fresh air, but as he pushed open the door he saw two Professors who were new recruits to the Hogwarts staff.
With a small smile at both of them and a wave in greeting Dan wondered over to his favourite chair and pulled out his book and started to attempt to read. However Dan had not got very far down the page when his mind started to wonder and he found himself listening to the other Professors conversations. He found it interesting to hear there theories on the coming and goings of professors at the school, this was a conversation he had to be a part of.
“I do not think the ministry have much to do with it.” He said while closing his book. “Believe it or not before the headmasters last recruitment drive I was still the new boy, the only job that seemed to change hands was Defence Against the Dark Arts. At the end of last term however a lot of the Professor decided they wanted to continue with their lives…you will never find a professor with a dull story.”
Dan knew he was over stepping ground and making himself sound like he knew anything and everything about the Professors at Hogwarts but he was going through the same stage as many of his predecessors, the feeling of unrest and want of freedom.

Mayella nearly jumped out of her seat when she heard the door open, but quickly remembered that she was in the staff room and that would be considered a normal procedure. eying the professor warily, she faintly recognized him, but like most of the professors she had yet to speak to him. Seeing that he was just going to mind his own business, she turned her attention back to Hikaru and waited for an answer.
Her eyebrow twitched in annoyance at his casual words towards the ministry. He couldn't possibly know what it was like out there, and the cruelties that the ministry did to innocent and some guilty people. Trying to keep her anger and irritation under control she glanced back to the professor with a frown. "That may be true, but you can believe what you wish, then." She said plainly and smiled a little at him. "And I'll believe that. Every professor has another side, whether they wish to tell it or not is up to them." May found this highly amusing, as any double-sided person was. She may not be a patron or a supporter of the ministry at all, but still some rogue supporters would find her highly offending.

Dan looked over at the witch and held her gaze noting the a small sign of irritation at the mention of the ministry. Dan was not a supporter for the ministry but neither would he openly confess to be against the, he knew that the Ministry’s presence was growing everyday within the school and for the few weeks he had left in his job he wanted to be involved in as little social up heavily as possible. However it was what she said next that made Dan smile, the idea that Professors had two sides to there personality and the reason why it made him smile was because it was so true. With a soft laugh Dan pushed himself out of his chair and walked across the staff room to sit next to Hikaru and opposite the female professor.
“Oh I agree with that last statement. Everyone has two sides at least…I for one have three. The Professor, the brother and the lover.” Dan smiled at May and rested his head against the back of the chair. “What about you Professor. How many sides do you have?”
It was a very personal question and he doubted she would answer, from the few minutes they had spent in the same room together Dan was already building up his opinion of her and he could not help but wonder what she was thinking of him…after all they did not know each others names.

Nodded slightly at the other professor as he joined them. Obviously Hikaru and herself were interesting enough for him to wish to partake in their conversation. She let a little smile play at her lips at what he next said. That wasn't quite what she meant, but that could be a way someone could take it. She meant quite literally two-sides, but emotionally could be true also.
Leaning back against the couch and crossing her arms in front of her chest, she stared at the professor. "I can assure you I have many sides, but those of a sister and a professor are the only ones you should concern yourself with." She lowered her head a bit so her long bangs covered her eyes, keeping her feelings about this statement, and whether or not it was a lie, secret from the man. This flat, rather rude statement was all she would share about her past.. for now. The rest she might reveal in good time, but at the moment it would be rather dangerous. "By the way, I don't believe you introduced yourself."
