Dia had a bemused grin on her face. She didn't know if she should laugh or cry or break down. Was he really just going to leave after that? With not as much as a good night kiss? "Fine," she echoed, a hint of resentment in her steady voice. She couldn't believe her own actions and now she couldn't believe she was just going to let him go. Dia laughed wickedly. "Marking?" she chuckled and clapped her hands together, burying them in her lap as she leaned her buttocks on table behind her. "You could have come up with a better excuse to leave, Daniel. Honestly, I'm disappointed."
She chuckled again as he made to leave, amused that he thought he was actually going to leave. Her smile fell quickly when she saw the defeated look in Dan's dull eyes. Eyes are the window to the soul, Dia thought to herself sadly. She had beaten him soundly, crushed his spirit. But it needed doing, she assured herself as she watched him.
She saw something change in his face, as he made for the wine bottle at her back, something became alive again and Dia grinned up at him. So glad to see it takes more then that to get you down, Dan, she thought. He stood close, Dia held her breath. He was so close that she could almost taste him ... again. She bit her lower lip and watched him. His arm rubbed against hers, he breathed in her neck and the warmth of it spread over her whole body. She closed her eyes for the moment he was close but opened them immediately when she realised what she was doing.
Dia took a deep breath and stood up, trying to not touch Dan and trying to step past him. She bumped her shoulder to his and caught herself on him by holding onto his shoulders as she teetered on the edge of falling down. She used him to brace herself and stood up. "I'm ... I'm sorry about that," she said, "my balance isn't what it should be." She grinned and tucked her fringe behind her ears. Her face was glowing red, she could feel it, so she looked away. "Do we need more wine?" she asked over her shoulder, pretending to be looking for another bottle.

Dan was not quite all there, his confidence was still shaken and he was still worried that with one wrong word or move he could be back to where he was only a while ago. However his confidence grew some more when Dia tried to move away from him only to fall straight into him. He did not want to laugh, he did not want to tease her, it was an easy mistake to make when people where trying to move towards or around him and had consumed a little to much alcohol. Reaching out to make sure she did not fall flat on the floor Dan let go of the wine bottle and the small amount that remained in it ran across the floor as the glass bottle smashed.
“Well we do now, because of your little acrobatics I dropt the bottle. I think maybe another red would be nice. It tasted nice on your lips, maybe we should try a different flavour.”
Looking down he could hear the sound of house-elves grumbling and muttering to them selves as they brought out many items to clean up the bottle with. Shooting a few apologetic glances around Dan moved towards Dia and started to push her away from the scene of the crime not really wanting to stand in the way of a mardey house-elf. As he pushed Dia along he made sure that one of his arms slipped around her waist and held her tightly. Not only did he not want her to fall on the floor he also did not want Dia to run away, although he very much doubted that she would, she seemed to be having far to much fun teasing him. And in a strange way Dan enjoyed it, it was a challenge he was actually being beaten by someone else and for once that person was good looking.
With a chest grin Dan had reached his destination, a sideboard full of different wines and sprits. Running his hand across the labels he saw the perfect bottle. It was 7 years old, from Italy and as he pulled out the cork he sweet smells filled the area around them.

Dia could still feel Dan's warmth on her, could still taste him. It was hard to concentrate on any one thing for any amount of time with such distractions around her. She was biting the other corner of her mouth when many house-elves rushed over to them to clean up the broken glass. One shooed her foot away. Dia looked down at the house-elf and lifted her foot, saying, "oh, sorry." She stepped back but bumped into another house-elf. "Sorry," she said, as the bucket of water he was carrying clattered to the ground. Lucky for her, it didn't have far to travel so landed straight and spilt little.
Dia swallowed hard. Dan began to lead Dia away from the crowd by putting an arm around her waist. She enjoyed feeling his touch and grinned at him as they went to a sideboard filled with bottles of wine. Dan let go of Dia as he looked and Dia eyed the door to the kitchen. She shook her head, forced herself to pay attention to what Dan was on about. She took a few steps closer to him and put her chin on his shoulder, standing on her toes, of course. She breathed into his ear gently, "are you going to get us glasses or are we going to do the true piss-up thing and drink from the bottle?" She chuckled, smiling coyly at him, and stood flat on her feet again.

Dan sniffed the top of the wine bottle, letting the sweet smell of summer fruits fill his lungs. It was then when he felt the presence of someone else on his shoulder. Turning his head slightly he saw Dia resting her head on it peering over. With a wide grin Dan turned his head slightly so he could see her startling features. At the mere sight of these his grin grew wider and carefully Dan turned around and wrapped his arms around her neck making sure not to drop this bottle of wine. For a few seconds Dan simply looked at Dia before he moved in and kissed her gently on the lips. It was only quick and as he pulled away Dan licked his lips and shook his head.
“Now we have a very serious problem that you are losing the taste already from the last batch of wine. I think we need quick assistance.”
With a wild laugh Dan took a step back and lifted the bottle over her head and held it in front of her, and with his other hand he reached out and took hold of Dia’s hand clasping his own tightly around it. With a cheesy grin Dan raised the bottle to his lips and took the first sip. He winced slightly as the sharp after taste kicked in, he gave another glance at the label on the bottle almost to cheek what was in it before taking another swig. That time the fruits was more outstanding and it taste more like he expected. Hanging the bottle in front of Dia he placed it into her empty hand and winked at her.
“Your turn.”

Dia couldn't stop smiling at Daniel. He had recovered so well from their argument earlier that she could have gone as far as to say they hadn't argued at all. She was at a loss at what to do so she simply stood where she was. At least there she knew she didn't have anything to knock over or bump into. She watched Dan smell his bottle and she let out a little giggle. It was a very manly thing to do, smell the bottle before drinking from it.
Dan turned his head slightly and Dia almost jumped back in surprise. She wasn't expecting him to be grinning like he was and Dia couldn't stop her laugh, though it was a quick girly laugh. Then he surprised her again by wrapping his arm around her neck. She laughed again, for a lack of anything else to do with her surprise, and for a split second Dia wanted to run away again. But she knew she couldn't and as Daniel kissed her again, she was happy she hadn't. She too licked her lips, eyes closed, and said, "you're not tasting as good, yourself." She winked at him and he took a step back.
Dia watched the bottle as it went above her head and too Dan's mouth. She nearly didn't realise Dan had slipped his hand into hers. He began to cough after the first swig so took another. Dia gaped at him in surprise, in mock anger, on the brink of laughter. She reached up for the bottle, not looking away from Dan, and took it firmly, making sure she wouldn't drop it. She pressed it to her lips, looked Dan up and down, and drank a small sip. Then Dia took a larger sip and licked her lips again. "Not a bad one ... once you get past the initial ... shock," she said and grinned at Dan.

Dan was unsure if it was the alcohol but him and Dia both seemed to be laughing more, everything seemed to be in the past nothing else mattered, it was a past problem and he Dan did not think he would have to worry about it again, but he had learnt to avoid that area of conversation with Dia. He gave a soft chuckle as he watched her down some of the wine and with wide eyes waited to hear what she thought of it. He noticed that she looked him up and down and then moved back to the wine.
“The initial shock….I found it surprisingly fiery once the first sweet….exterior dropt away and although at first it seems rather bitter it is just like any other wine but it is the extra kick that makes it perfect.”
Dan looked al lover Dia, taking in every little bit of her, then with a sigh he looked back into the hypnotising gleam of her blue eyes, and he was lost for a dew moments, he could do nothing but dream about the beauty of the person that owned such eyes. Reaching out Dan stroked the side of Dia’s cheek, feeling its smoothness under his worn and though figures. Knowing that it maybe too soon to kiss her once again and use the wine as an excuse Dan slipped the bottle out of her grip and took another few swigs for himself. He had to find a way of distracting him, making sure that Dia knew that he was only for a bit of harmless fun.

Dia could feel Dan watching her as she drank. She put extra effort into not spilling. She lowered the bottle and grinned at Dan. Dia noticed the way Dan smiled at her and smiled at him too, unsure of it was because she drank funny or if there was something more there. She shrugged it off as her mind playing with her and took a final, small sip before Dan could get it back from her.
"The taste lingers in your mouth," she said smiling happily into the distance, "and it's not unbearable either. It's a good lingering taste." Dia kept eye contact as Dan stared into her eyes. He might have wanted to say something, but Dia wasn't sure. He cupped his hand on her cheek and she nestled into it again. Dia could only grin at Dan for that was a weakness of hers and he had found it. He took the bottle from her hand and Dia giggled. "I was still busy with that," she said.
She took a step back and looked past Dan, eyeing the sideboards and smiled. "Let’s get two more bottles," Dia said as though she said it every day, "and let's go sit." She pulled out a bottle, blew the dust off. “Five years,” she said, “it’ll do.” She turned and looked around for a table but all that was there was the miniature versions of the house tables. She tucked the bottle under her arm and walked towards it. Dia put the bottle on the table and pushed herself up onto it. She kicked her legs and grinned at Dan. Then she held out her hand for the bottle.

Dan stood and looked at Dai as if she had said something that he did not understand. The thing that had surprised him was that Dia was so confident about the wine and was able to command the situation. He watched her closely as she picked out the wine and made her way over towards the table, her dress floating behind her. With a soft chuckle Dan wondered over towards the table where Dia had placed the bottles and grudgingly handed her over the bottle he was clinging onto in his hand.
Settling himself down on the bench next to his fellow Professor Dan leaned across the table and took hold of two goblets. He had decided that if they were going to sit down then they might as well be civilised and drink properly. For a brief moment his mind flicked back to the marking that he had on his desk and that soon urged him on to have more to drink, the thought of marking work about dancing pineapples seemed even worse when he had been drinking. Placing the goblets down in front of Dia he gave her a coy smile.
“You do the honours then. Fill mine right to the brim it is quite an art I have only ever seen 3 people to do without spilling. It gets even more fun once you have had more to drink and your judgment goes all over the place.”
Dan gave a soft chuckle as he thought about may times he had tried to do it himself and ended up having the drink flow over the sides or it spilling as he raised it up to his lips. No matter what happened he always thought it was a laugh and when he and Dia were not shouting at each other he felt like he could do anything around her and know that she will not judge him, if anything it would make her laugh and her beautiful smile fill her face.

For a moment, while Dan watched her, unmoving, Dia thought she had done something or said something wrong. But he smiled, chuckled, and joined her at the table. She smiled as she took the bottle from him, making sure to lightly brush her fingers against his. She lifted the bottle to her lips but stopped, mouth open, as Dan produced two goblets. Dia laughed and lowered the bottle.
"I'm going to have to make that four," she said with a cheeky smile. She jumped off the table and leaned passed Dan to pour the wine. She brushed her hair behind her ear and she glanced quickly at Dan before she started pouring. It came slowly at first, then as she gained more confidence she poured faster. Soon it was full but not to the brim so she added a dash, another dash, another dash as though she was spicing a brew. She sat next to Dan and added another dash. The wine in the goblet teetered on the edge of spilling and for a moment she thought she had done it. The next a few drops ran down the side of the goblet.
Dia laughed and took the other goblet in her hand. "Oh well," she said and quickly poured the rest of the wine into her goblet so that hers was three-quarters full. She shook the last few drops out of the bottle and put it down on the table. "Shall we drink to something?" she asked raising her goblet a little and turning her body to face the man next to her.

Dan watched the red liquid ripple over the die of the goblet and roll down the its side leaving a glistening trail as it went. Wiping his figure over it he cleaned the side up and kicked his figure clean. The sweet taste of the wine passed over his taste buds and he shot Dia a small smile.
"Shall we drink to something?"
Dan gave a small laugh, he knew what he would like to raise his glass too and celebrate but it was the fact of actually saying it could ruin everything they had built up so far, and after a very shaky start Dan knew that he could not afford to do anything else. Anyway this light bit of flirting was what he enjoyed and he knew that he would never be able to approach anything with deeper feelings. Raising his glass carefully he gently tapped it against the side of Dia’s wincing as some of the liquid slopped over the side and ran over his hand.
“I think we should drink to tea. The amazing drink that brought the two of us together and thus creating all the laughs we have shared.”
Dan knew it was cheesy and could possible be taken a little too seriously if people wanted to read anything into it, but Dan really did not mind. Desperate to have some of the drink he gave Dia a small wink and carefully raised the goblet to his lips and sipped at the liquid giving the contents more space.

Dia watched Dan carefully, closely, as he searched for something to toast. She had put him on the spot and Dia couldn't stop smiling as he thought quickly. His toast, in the end, made Dia laugh. She nearly dropped her wine but she realised it before the dead could be done. Smiling, she said, "to tea." She raised her goblet to her lips and sipped the wine. There was a sweetness that lay below the harsh vibrant taste of the wine.
She put the goblet on the table and smiled at Dan. She just watched him, smiled at him. She couldn't think of anything to say so kept her mouth shut. Rather silence then say something you'll regret later, Dia's mother had always said and naturally a woman who spent most of her days arguing would say such a thing. Dia leaned on the table and took another sip of her wine.

With a small laugh Dan placed his goblet back on the table and feeling rather embarrassed he raised his hand to his mouth that all the wine on and licked it to make sure that non of it was wasted. Looking over at Dia he shot her a small glance knowing hat he looked like a total idiot. Lowering his hand rather quickly he rubbed it on his trousers and looked over at the house elves. He felt like a five year old who had just been spotted picking at his food before they were aloud to start, he could just imagine his mothers voice ringing in his ear ‘we can not take you anywhere Daniel.’
He noticed that a lot of the house elves had stopped cleaning and were actually sitting down, many had disappeared and only a few were left filling up kettles and carrying clean pots and pans around. With a soft chuckle as he saw one stumble he thought for a moment that he should help, but the last time he did that he got kicked out of the kitchen and he really did not want that to happen again, not when he was with Dia.
Turing back to his fellow professor he saw her sitting silently drinking her wine, her eyes just as radiant as ever, her lips seeming just as sweet as he had ever seen and he felt the urge to turn her around and taste them once more for himself. Fitting off that urge he diverted his eyes back to the worn table and tried to think of something to end their silence But once again the only thought that came to him was verities of teas.
“Oh this truly is hopeless. I can not think of anything to talk to you about other then tea. I think you have been a bad influence on me!”
He turned up to look at Dia and managed to muster a slight smile and a chuckle. What he really wanted to say was that he never really wanted the night to end and he would do anything just to leap on the table and hold Dia in his arms once again. He felt so alive when they were doing that, his heart begin to beat faster even at the thought of it. Dia was doing something to him, and for his own shake Dan prayed that he was not falling for her, it would not suit his life style and he knew that if he ever cared for another that strong he knew would live in fear of being heartbroken once again.

Dia, too, had resorted to watching the busy house elves as the bustled past her and Dan. They were practiced in what they did, how they worked their many instruments, and it was fascinating to watch. However, watching was just a way to avoid looking at Dan. Every time she did, Dia's face burst into colour and broke into a smile that she couldn't explain. She didn't want to explain. All she wanted to do was dance, perhaps a relaxed slow dance, but dance nevertheless.
Daniel's voice broke through her thoughts of slow dancing in the moon light and brought her eyes, sparkling, to Dan's. She smiled sweetly at him for tea had not crossed her mind in a while. She put her goblet down, licked her top lip thoughtfully, and watched the red liquid swirl around the bottom of the goblet. "I can't possibly be that much of a bad influence," she said serenely, "I imagine if I was you would not have let me out your arms." Here she looked up, made eye contact, her blue eyes sparkling like stars.

She was playing with him, Dan could tell, he had seen it all before. The lick of the lips tempting him to have a taste, the glint in her eye and the small smile that played across her lips. He may have seen it all before but it still got to him and there was something different about Dia it was that the sparkle in her eyes that made him feel like everything would be fine. He was almost so wrapped up by simply looking into her eyes that he almost missed what she had said. However as soon as she had said it a laugh seemed to have built up inside him, vainly he tried to suppress it but a goofy smile filled his face and suddenly a noise unknown to man seemed to have escaped.
Quickly his hand moved up and covered his mouth in hope that no other sound would escape. He just could not believe that Dia had just said that, he could not believe that he had been stupid enough to let her out of his arms and that he was almost having to be told to hold her once again. Lowering his hand from his mouth feeling satisfied no more unnatural noises will escape Dan swung his legs over the bench and stood behind Dia with his hand held out a small smile spreading across his face.
“I will take that as a hint and I extend my hand in offer of being able to hold you again. Maybe we should continue where we left off before consuming a fair bit of wine. I guess what I am trying to ask you Professor Owen is will you dance with me….again.”

Dia giggled when an unmanly noise escaped from Daniel's mouth and his hand shot to his mouth. It sounded more like a noise a woman would make but Dia couldn't say that anywhere but her head. She smiled at Dan as she could see his embarrassment burnt onto his bright cheeks. Her cheeks did the same but from much too much use that evening.
Before Dia had blinked, Dan was on his feet, hand extended and a smile on his face. Dia looked from the hand to the face and back to the hand of the man before her. Dia contemplated refusing the hand as going to do her star charting as she had wanted to do but thankfully this thought only lasted a split second. The next she was smiling a dazzling smile and taking the hand extended to her. He pulled herself up and put her other hand on his shoulder again. "Call me Dia, please," she smiled and stood, poised to dance.
