Dia pushed the doors to the Hospital Wing open with her free hand and strode in, the front of her dress covered in blood. Her wand was out and pointing over her shoulder to the floating body of Prof Hubbles. Dia, her face pale, set Dan's body down on the nearest bed.
"Arista?" Dia called, "Arista, we need you!" She put her wand on the bedside table and began fussing over Dan, trying to stem the bleeding of the gaping hole in his chest. When Dia was aware of the two students, she said over her shoulder, "ladies, sit down on the bed behind us." She looked around again for the Healer. "Arist Otis, where are you?"

Loren skittered in after Professor Owen, her eyes darting from the back of the fearsome woman's head to Professor Hubbles. He had left a heavy trail of blood right through the castle, Loren having stepped in it all the way so that her footprints were thick with blood. 'Can... can I do anything to help?' Loren asked weakly, somehow believing she could make it back into someone's good books by merely handing them a bandage.
Professor Owen, instead of telling Loren to leave (as she had done enough damage already) she was ordered to sit on the bed. Was she going to summon the headmaster? Professor Darrow, although renowned for being very popular, scared Loren to no end. He was much too powerful.
'Professor...?' Loren muttered to Professor Hubbles as he was lowered onto the bed. 'Stop faking.' She mouthed desperately.

Andie sat down slowly, "Is he going to die?" she whispered fearfully, then everything caught up to her mind, and she buried her face in her hands letting out a strangled sob. "How could this happen?" she cried into her hands. She looked up at Professor Owen, face glistening with tears. "I love him! I know it's wrong and inappropriate, but I can't help it, and I don't care either!" She was now practically begging, "Please, you can't let him die! I can't lose him! I love him!" she cried, she could feel a panic attack coming on, she knew she was losing control, but she didn't really care.

Whispers had spread through the Hufflepuff common room after a very red faced 2nd year came in saying that Professor Hubbles was dead. They had heard it from Sir Cadogan and his killer was Loren Hayes. As soon as this was heard a flood of students broken into Dax’s dormitory and dragged him out of bed and pushing him down the stairs. They were desperate to hear news on their head of house, while Dax’s mind was more occupied with the thought that Loren had killed him.
Jumping through the portrait Dax ran as fast as he could towards the hospital wing. As he skidded to a halt as he reached the first floor he saw a trial of blood. Taking a deep breath Dax headed straight to the hospital. Flying open the doors his gaze fell straight onto a very pale looking Loren. His heart gave a leap to see that she was not in chains. Without any thought about the other people in the room, that he was standing in his teddy bear pyjamas that were too small in the leg, he wrapped his arms around Loren.
Dax did not want to let her go from their embrace, he was just so glad to be there. He could feel her shaking and with a claming voice he gently stroked her hair and told her it was alright. It was only then did he see Professor Hubbles. Dax could feel the sick rising up in his throat, the rumours may have been true, however professor Owen was fussing a lot about a man who was dead. Perhaps there was some hope. Turing his attention back to Loren he planted a kiss on top of her head and just held her tightly.

Andie continued to sob, barely taking notice of Dax, all she could think about was the fact that Daniel, the man she loved was lying there dying, and it was all her fault! If only she had done something, anything to stop the fight before it escalated! She could have pulled Loren away, or even Dan, but no. She had to stand there and gape like an idiot!

Girty was sitting in the common room playing a game of explosive snap with some first years when the while thing started. Dan had been attacked, she did not believe it, she would not. Laughing at the second year who told everyone Girty turned away thinking it was all a joke. However when Dax went running out of the common room she thought that maybe something was up. With a grin at the rest of the Hufflepuff’s Girty joked around about making sure that Dax was safe and did not fall down the stairs in his hurry. However her heart was pounding in her chest and she was beginning to feel sick. What if something had happened.
Stumbling up the stairs towards the first floor Girty began to feel even more scared. The portraits were looking at her grimly, some even muttered ‘poor girl’. The doors to the hospital wing were wide open and it was like she was slowly walking in to a portrait. The figures were nearly all stationary looking pale and silent. It was only when she entered did she see the blood covered body of Dan on one of the beds.
It was like she had been hit simultaneously in the chest and head by a pair of bludgers. She could not breath, her heart was screaming in pain and she stumbled backwards feeling dazed. Trying to regain control Girty stumbled forwards reaching out and taking hold of Dan’s limp hand. Girty squeezed it tightly and as she looked on the pale features of her brother grief hit her. It felt like someone was stabbing her in the heart continuously as she hunched over and began to cry into his hand. Her whole body shuddered yet she did not wail, the only sound Girty made was an indescribable noise when she breathed in. Girty did not know if she sat there for seconds or hours, she just could not believe it was happening.
Raising her head Girty let go of her bothers hand and turned to face the others in the room. Wiping her face on her sleeves, it left a shining trial on the dark material. Her bloodshot eyes landed on Loren, a burning passion to seek her brothers revenge overcome her, however her attention turned Andie who was crying. A sane person would have thought Girty would have found sympathy in the sorrow her friend shared, however at this moment in time Girty’s mind was shattered by grief. Pushing herself up Girty walked over to Andie gesticulating wildly.
“What right do you have to cry? For every strand of hair that was in Merlins beard I feel more….” Girty broke off and looked at her brother. “I feel more….more….” She could not continue, tears were streaming down her already soaking wet cheeks. She seemed to need a moment to calm herself down before turning to Andie once again. “Please can you do something useful and go to the Owlery and sent a letter to my parents. They…they should know.” Girty turned to look at Loren for a brief second “Tell them that it was an accident and…and Dan will be ok. There is no need to alarm them.”
Girty fell silent and continued to look at her brother.

Andie looked up, startled by the voice. "Girty!" She wiped away her tears with the back of her hand. "I'm crying because as stupid and wrong as it is, I'm in love with your brother, and if he dies, I don't know what I'll do!" Then Girty, asked her to owl a letter to her parents. "Of course, I'd be glad to. Anything!" she stated breathlessly as she jumped up and raced fro the door, as she reached the door, she turned and looked at her friend, "Please don't hate me for loving him." she whispered, then she was gone.

Girty listened to what Andie had to say and she really could not believe what she was hearing. Was this Ravenclaw actually confessing love for her brother, a man who was nearly ten years older then her. Looking away from the lifeless form of Dan Girty looked at the floor in hope that she would not hear anymore and that Andie had gone. However Andie said one more thing and Girty flipped. Many people had said that Girty had Dan had very different tempers, however they both knew the only difference was that Girty could control hers. But this time it has been pushed too far.
“You stupid idiot, Dan would never go for you. I have met so many of his girlfriends it is untrue and you have nothing on them! Carry on loving him from a far as that is all it will ever be!”
Girty had walked after Andie and was shouting at her down the corridor. Girty’s voice was shaking with frustration and as she spun around back to face the room she stormed back towards Dan’s side giving Loren and Dax an evil glare as she came past. The traitor and murderer, a wonderful pair.

The moment Dax rushed into sight, his arms wide, offering embrace, Loren jumped off the bed and darted over to him, throwing her arms around his chest and squeezing him tightly. She let out a great shuddering sob and gripped the back of his shirt with her fingers. All the trauma of the last half an hour seemed to pour out of her instantly, and with swollen, wet eyes she looked up at Dax, her jaw clenched as she tried to stop crying. ‘It’s not what you think,’ she whispered half-heartedly.
At that moment the worst person in the world entered the hospital wing. Girty’s face was a mask of grief as she ran to Professor Hubbles’s side, tears welling in her eyes. Loren instinctively gripped Dax tighter, keeping perfectly still in hope that Girty wouldn’t notice her – it failed of course. She and Andie launched into a snapping contest, but determined to do her part the other Ravenclaw swept from the room, heading for the owlery.
‘An accident…?’ Loren murmured, her brow creasing in confusion.
If that was MY brother, I wouldn’t be saving his attacker! said the cold voice indignantly. Typical Hufflepuff! No Ravenclaw would be so soft!
Yes… Ravenclaw… Loren’s fingers uncoiled, and she slipped her arms from around Dax with a half-apologetic, half-thankful expression. I’m Ravenclaw champion. I should be dealing with this!
‘Leave her alone!’ Loren suddenly shouted, stepping away from Dax and standing before Girty. ‘Don’t you dare trivialise her feelings! She’s trying to help that pathetic man you call a brother, and all you can do is mock her?! You’re lucky anyone even CARES about him!’ Loren’s eyes were dry now, her tears replaced with fury. ‘And don’t look at me like that – it’s his own fault he’s in this mess! If you knew even half of it you’d be standing there in shame! Now move!’ Loren, in one sweeping gestured, brushed Girty aside.
Slipping Professor Hubbles’s wand from his limp fingers, Loren began to utter a song-like spell, tracing the tip of the wand up and down his torso where the lacerations were worst. As she worked Loren stole a quick glance at Girty, her gaze cold and full of loathing for any member of the Hubbles family. You won’t beat me, not now, not in that bloody tournament!

Post by Professor Dia Hubbles on Jul 30, 2007 15:13:11 GMT
Dia had run to a large cabinet and gathered many bandages. Running back, she began to layer them onto Daniel's torso to staunch the flow of blood. She knew he had lost much blood so far, her soaked dress would attest to that, but that didn't matter. She had cushioned the gapping wound to the best of her ability but she didn't think it was enough. Where is Arista?
She looked up and saw a Hufflepuff run into the room and to Loren. Dia watched him calculatingly but said nothing as they embraced one another. She glanced to Andrea who was once again crying. Dia could not stand it, what help would crying do to help stop him bleeding? Dia swiped her damp brow with the back of her bloodied hand and stood up straight breathing a shaky breath. She stared ahead of her, thinking hard, trying to remember it there was anything else she could do that she had learned while she was in Egypt.
Girty run in and Dia whirled around and gasped. This was the last thing that she or Daniel needed. She watched her silently, and could hardly imagine what was going through her mind. Dia wanted to give the Hufflepuff a hug and tell her that it would all be alright but a nasty thrash from Dan's body called her attention back. She held him down and once he was still again, she straightened the bandages.
She straightened in time to hear the tail end of Girty's speech to Andie and watched the ignorant girl run out. Loren seemed very quick to defend her fellow Ravenclaw and even degrade a teacher. Dia whirled around, her blond hair flying after, and she fixed Loren with a heated glare. "Ms Hayes," she said, clearly astonished and ashamed such things had come from such a good student, "shall I remind you that you have slashed this man practically in two. And do not think for a second that just because I have not called the Headmaster that you have gotten off Scott free."
Loren all but pushed Dia onto her feet as she marched to Prof Hubbles's side. Dia stood back, her hands still bloodied, and glared at the Ravenclaw. "What are you doing now?" Dia asked, her nervous shot, her concentration else where.

Post by Prof. Darrow on Jul 30, 2007 15:40:46 GMT
News of a calamity had reached the Headmaster's ears.
Enroute to the Department of Mysteries itself Darrow had been forstalled when a house elf tugged upon his sleeve as he strode towards the awaiting elevators. "Sir, sir," squeaked the elf, "there's a small problem at the school." Halting dead in his tracks Darrow eyes swivelled towards the elf who gave him a sheepish look.
"Ah...I see," murmured Darrow "Reginald I shall have to delay our meeting until tomorrow, my presence is required immediately back at Hogwarts." The hook nosed man named Reginald gaped, "certainly my old friend, whatever suits." With a sweeping bow Darrow's mind whirled with endless possibilities of the situation at Hogwarts; whatever was happening at Hogwarts must be atrocious to require his prescene, Reginald was an important person and couldn't be treated lightly by any means. "I'm sorry Reginald it cannot be helped." Taking the hand of the elf they instantly apparated with a deafening crack and a small fwirling tendril of smoke that Darrow conjured happily for effect. Chuckling at Darrow's old tricks Reginald preceeded directly back to his post.
Arriving at his office Darrow's brow creased into a frown as he listened to the House Elf's description of the goings on whilst he'd been away. "Many thanks Fred," clasping the elf's hand once again he nodded his brow furrowing in consternation as he pondered.
Appearing in the doors of the Hospital Wing that had been flung wide for people to goggle through Darrow's eyes narrowed, "leave now," he ordered crisply to the congregating crowd, "as soon as there's anything to know you will be informed." Angry huffs of indignation rippled throughout the growing group struggling to glimpse a view of 'the dead teacher' as he heard somebody mutter. "Return from whence you came, there's nothing to see here." Stepping inside the hospital wing he closed the doors with a flick of his wand and a murmured spell.
Strolling towards the deathly pale teacher Darrow spoke calmly to all present, "please quieten down, shouting and arguing will not help matters."
"Miss Hayes I believe you aren't qualified to perform such a spell, luckily I completed a rather rigorous training course upon magical healing in my youth. It comes handy in a crisis, now please stand aside, Mr Simmons will you kindly escort Miss Hayes to my office, feel free to make yourself at home, mints are complementary." Turning smartly to Dia he suggested in a nonetheless commanding tone, "please keep people away from the Hospital Wing, the Hubbles family shall need their privacy, I presume an owl has been sent to them?" He enquired eyebrows raised, but without waiting for an answer he stood over Hubbles, his wand swirling in a complex pattern in the air, murmuring incantations under his breath. As the blood slowly congealed and soldified Hubbles' chest rose and fell in a more regular and less feverish rythm.
Concentration written across the brow of the Headmaster, Darrow let out a rush of breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding. "I do believe that shall dampen the worst of the damage, Arista is far more qualified than I to make a thorough assessment and finish the healing." Realising nobody had obeyed his commands instantaneously as he had presumed they wouldn't, he smiled.
"The worst is over, rest assured that he won't die, now please disperse and give the Hubbles some room to breath."

Andie raced down the corridors as fast as her legs would take her, she was gasping for breath, her lungs were burning, and a stitch was developing in her side. Reaching the Hospital Wing she stopped short, and collapsed against the doorframe clutching at her side, suddenly she looked up and saw... "Professor Darrow!" she gasped, she looked up at the headmaster as she tried to regain her breath. "Is-is he going to be alright?" she finally managed to gasp out gesturing towards the form on the bed.

Dia let out a tiny squeak and jumped slightly when the Headmaster's voice could be heard in the corridor outside. She had not noticed the gathering people and was relieved that few of them saw her covered in another's blood. She wiped her hand down her dress before patting Loren on the shoulder. "It's alright," she said soothingly, "everything is going to be alright."
Darrow was standing over Daniel now and Dia quickly plucked Dan's wand from Loren's hand. She set it down on the bedside table, picking up her own and noticed the bandages were soaked. Dia slicked her wand, muttering under her breath, "Wingardium Leviosa." The bandages floated up into the air and into a dustbin she had spotted near by. "Scourgify," she said at each puddle of blood she passed.
"Andrea," Dia squeaked again, lifting a hand to her mouth. She breathed out deeply and sighed. "Yes, yes," and she turned Andie away, "we must leave now. Loren, Dax, come." She waved a hand to them to leave. "Dax do as you are told and take Loren to the Headmasters office." She ushered everyone but Girty out of the room. "I will be outside if you need me, Professor," she said to Darrow as she closed the door behind her.

Loren's eyes went wide as Professor Darrow finally entered the hospital wing. As usual he was calm and collected - which was what scared Loren the most. Even if he was secretly furious but trying to keep a civil tongue, it only reminded her further of what would happen the day he finally lost his temper.
Mildly offended as he ordered her aside, deeming her healing skills inferior (then again, it was Professor Hubbles who had taught them her Advance Charms this year, so they probably were) Loren clutched Dax’s hand as he was ordered to take her up to Professor Darrow’s office. Feeling like a mental patient who couldn’t look after herself, Loren insisted on being the one doing the leading, and promptly pulled Dax along. He tried to throw me over a banister; he’ll be in more trouble than me when everyone finds out! She reassured herself angrily.
‘Hubbles only,’ Loren muttered tensely to Andie as the girl came rushing back into the room. ‘They deserve each other.’ She said, before disappearing with Dax altogether.

Dan had been slipping in and out of consciousness continually. He would see the silhouettes or hear voices of the people around him. He could remember seeing Dia Owens face at one point, the sound of Andie Riley voice echoing around the corridors, the hospital bed, the touch of someone holding his hand, Loren standing above him and then finally the commanding voice of Darrow.
His eyelids were heavy and he did not want to open them, still his body ached and shooting pains ran through him occasionally however the pain of cut skin to the air had stopped and breathing was slightly easier. As the buzzing stopped in his ears Dan could hear the sound of Darrow ordering everyone to leave expect family. Using all his energy Dan managed to open his mouth but no words came out. With one last attempt to say something Dan began to cough as more blood came flying out of his mouth. Opening his eyes Dan was blinded for a moment and the he managed to make out blurred objects and people.
“Dia. I want her here.” Dan’s voice was hoarse and he soon had to stop to cough up more blood. “I want her here.”
Shutting his eyes tightly Dan became tired all of a sudden, the blurred image and spinning room was making him feel no better and he was scared that if he talked anymore he may cough up the only blood left in his body.
