"Oh, goody, a choice," Maria said with a small clap of her hands. "Well, I must say that since I have not been too busy lately, a detention isn't likely to interfere with my life. So, a detention it is." She gave a small nod of head, to signal that it was her final decision.
Maria knew that she would receive the most unpleasant dention that this woman could think of, since the woman obviously wasn't very fond of her, but she wasn't too worried about. It was just one little detention. As long as her parents didn't find out about it then it wasn't a big deal. This meant that she couldn't let Aurora know about it, either, because her family wasn't very pleasant when they were angry with her, not at all.
She looked over at Toby and saw the glare he was giving the woman. Stifling a giggle, she turned back to the woman. "Are we quite finished here?" she asked in the same polite tone that she had used this whole time. "Because I've things to do, and just standing here would be a great waste of my time." She thought for a moment before adding, "Things to do in the Hufflepuff common room, of course. Homework and the like." Truthfully, Maria had nothing to do, but being around this woman reminded her way too much of quality time with her grandmother. So she was ready to get as far from the unpleasantry as possible.

Esther could not understand why children these days seemed to have an inability to keep their mouths shut. Every word seemed to be coated in layers of irony or sarcasm and it did not seem to matter if they were to a professor or the queen of England they would treat them the same. This was something Esther could not and would not allow she will show respect if they show respect to her that was something she always prided herself on but today these two students in particular where toeing the line. However she did not let this slight frustration creep in and take over. She remained relaxed and composed or as many others saw it emotionless and cold but which ever view you took it was clear that Esther was not easily fazed by such student ramblings.
“Miss Turolia I do not like this attitude you seem to have when talking to a superior in the school as well as in the Ministry of Magic. Maybe after a weeks worth of detentions you might learn how to act correctly. As for you Mr Moran you will serve your punishment this Saturday. Be at my office for 9am sharp as you will be spending the whole day with me and depending on how well you act I may let you leave before midnight.”
Placing her notebook and quill into her pocket Esther wondered over to one of the suits are armours that lined the wall and looked at her own reflection. These ‘antiques’ were a waste of space; they too would have to go along with the paintings. Turning back to look at her victims she thought she would add a little sweetener to the deal.
“If I hear another word off you it will be fifty house points off your houses. So I suggest you run along to your common rooms and your little friends and get some rest, you will need it in particular Miss Turolia. I expect to see you at my office 8am sharp on Sunday morning.”

Maria looked at the woman for a moment her small, polite smile never fading. She gave the woman a slight nod. "I'll see you at eight sharp, Sunday morning." Maria's pleasant tone never left as she spoke, despite the week full of detentions that was ahead of her. Somehow she figured that this would get around to her parents. Oh well, nothing that could be done now.
"Have a good night, Ms. van Haestregt, Toby." She flashed Toby a quick, small smile. She turned and walked away, at her usual relaxed pace. It was a good thing she had become used to waking up early to practice quidditch or the idea of getting up at eight in the morning would put her in a horrible mood.

Tobe, by some miracle, managed to resist a groan as Haestregt mentioned that she might just let him out before midnight. Those house point reductions were beginning to sound a lot more appealing. 'Its a date.' He muttered under his breath grumpily as she told him the time and venue for his delightful punishment - being careful to say it quietly enough so she wouldn't hear. He wasn't going to risk a weeks worth of detention, it wasn't worth it, though he was quite impressed that Maria had dared to go a little further.
Toby mimed removing a hat and tilting it towards Maria in the gentlemently like manner of a Victorian, a smirk placed firmly on his expression. 'It's been a pleasure, Miss. Turolia.' He said, mustering up the most manly voice he could find. 'And Miss. Peers.' He play acted the same to her, probably presuming in her usual manner that the girls would find it charmingly amusing.
He began to head back to the Gryffindor common room, a smile gradually coming to play on his lips. He may have been stuck with one hell of a detention, but as usual, he had managed to have fun getting it. And as far as he was concerned, that was an evening well spent.
