The Character
Name: Charlotte Elizabeth Catherwood
Nicknames (if any): none
Age & Year: 11, 1st year
Blood: Pure
Wand: 11 inches dragon tongue core, White birch wood, essence of phoenix talon
Personality: She is most frequently described as kind. She prefers the laughter of friends and family, and the joys of meeting new people, but occasionally she will find a place to hide, for alone time. She chatters often but rarely ever raises her voice. . However, she is a kind-hearted and soulful creature. She has the heart of a mother, and is broken in by any animal, small or big, beautiful or ugly. Although she is slow to trust and sometimes slow on the uptake, once one has become her companion, there is no doubt she will be by your side through thick and thin.
Appearance: This pale skinned girl has never known the true meaning of chubby, and most likely, never will. Her great metabolism was acquired from her father’s genetics, and although she can sometimes be quite a pig when it comes to eating, she has always maintained a low body mass. She has the sort of stature you see in a wild boy, scrawny and lean limbs, jutting shoulders and knees, and always standing in a posture of complete confidence. She is pale skinned, and freckle free but she is almost always found outside in the sunniest spot. Her eyes are always moving, observing and watching, and there is never a moment that the curiosity in them fades. Although she is short and thin, she does not replicate a dainty twig. It is her healthy size and although it may appear gaunt on other children, one can tell she is in top
physical shape; she is merely, and always will be, a smaller person.
History: Elgin and Roslyn had been married for six years and to both of their dismays, Roslyn never became pregnant. Before they’re marriage they had scrounged a living as bookkeepers at a tiny book store, sharing a small room upstairs, they’re meager profits barely satiating the landlords greedy bag. To Elgin’s joy though, the foul, fat lard of a man who owned the store and room died, choking on a wretched cow’s tongue sandwich. Elgin immediately set off cleaning the store, allowing Roslyn to stay, but never having the heart to tell her his feelings. Once the store had been straightened and cleaned, it seemed to brighten up with each new customer. It became a quaint little place for bookworms to go, and so this is how Elgin finally raised the money for a ring. Roslyn cheerily accepted his marriage offer, promptly and precisely after he had asked. She had been patiently waiting, and as her patience had begun to tear, he had mended it with his question of ‘Will you marry me’. The two lived happily for a year until they began to try for a child. It seemed, an addition to the family was not intended for them. Five years late though, after Roslyn had opened up a potions shop next door, did she discover a small lump growing at the base of her abdomen.
They two cared for the newborn dearly; they were always near to protect her and always made sure there was a smile on her face. Her mother constantly took her on walks through the forest, showing her plants and herbs. Although she was never taught how to make a potion, her mother always let her sit by and watch as she prepared them, even letting her drop in a few ingredients.
Coming from a magical family, left no surprises for Charlotte and her family when she was younger. Although she rarely caught a cold, when she did have an illness it seemed any plant in or near her room would become limp and wilted. Whenever she threw a fit, it seemed objects would always tumble off the shelves, or tremble. Her parents took these as signs of magic and began to tell her of Hogwarts and their own school lives. This led her to anticipate the arrival of her letter, as soon as April 4th passed.
Her Father always showed her pictures of great and powerful creatures, muggle-known and wizard-known. Her favorite creature of all, though, was Pilot. Pilot was her father’s Hyacinth Macaw, whom he had pawned off a Latin sailor in trade for a few reading and writing lessons. Pilot was vicious and almost always drew blood when he bit, but this never stopped Charlotte from desperately trying to tame the bird. Just when her Hogwarts letter arrived, did she finally get the temperamental creature to clamber onto her arm. So for her, arriving at Hogwarts was a bittersweet event. However, her parents had been saving for this moment and as a surprise they gave her a young Scottish-fold kitten asher creature for Hogwarts.
