The Character

Name: Ayira Walters

Personality: Ayira is a very lovely person for the most part. Having been brought up by Muggles, however, she tends to be a little awkward when the other students are speaking about wizarding events that they went to or wizarding odds and ends they used when growing up. Those are just about the only times she's awkward though. Most other times she's quite boisterous and otherwise outgoing. Even though she's as loud as she is, she also has a quiet, almost secretive side which comes out only once in a blue moon. When she's not causing a scene by making a fool of herself, she can most likely be found cramming for an exam or writing that paper that's due in twenty minutes. Despite her obviously strong belief in procrastination, she usually does relatively well in her classes. She had a trouble streak before she ever came to Hogwarts; nothing too big, but enough to get her neighbours angry.

History: Ayira was born on an unusually warm June night in Liverpool to Kele and Sola Walters. The entire extended family was overjoyed at Ayira's birth. She was the first girl to have been born in her father's family for five generations. This was, according to her grandmother, because of a "curse" placed on the family a hundred years prior. No one except for her grandmother actually believed in the curse however; they mostly thought it was a strange coincidence. Despite this, she was still celebrated by her father's family as if a returning war hero.
As she grew, no one would have ever suspected she had any magic in her at all, which would not have been at all unusual being as she was from a Muggle family. It was only her grandmother, the same one who believed in the "curse", who knew there was something special about the girl. That is why she insisted on the name "Ayira" which in Luo meant "the chosen one". Her grandmother actually spent the most time with Ayira as she grew being as her parents had to work most of the day; her father was a member of the local police force whilst her mother was a secretary for an accounting firm. But because her grandmother was rather elderly, she couldn't always keep the keenest of eyes on Ayira and, as such, Ayira got in and caused quite a bit of trouble with some of her schoolmates.
They'd hang around in the middle of the empty parking lots nearby the apartment complex where the most of them lived. Usually they would just kick around a football and make a great deal of noise. However, there were also times when they'd become quite the little hooligans. They never did anything worse than egging cars, but they never did get caught either.
When the letter from Hogwarts arrived the first time, being as she'd never seen an owl before other than on television, she chased the bird out of her house shouting as loud as she could. Her mother and father were both home that night and were quite worried. They took the letter from her before she could even open it, fearing it was something dangerous. It took a few more tries by the school owls before Ayira's grandmother got a hold of one of the letters. The old woman was actually overjoyed when she read the letter. She'd been right all along. Her granddaughter was someone very special; she was a chosen one.
