Deputy Head Mistress Morley strode into the room, Two large baskets hanging on her arms and two more in her hands. Today's lesson was less of a lesson and more of a test. She had recently recieved and owl from the new Animagus Tutor that any new would-be Animagi would have to be sent to him through her to remain in accordance with the Ministers latest announcement. This would still be grainy business, but today's lesson would prove if any of the students truly posessed the skill in Transfiguration that it took to become an Animagus.
She made her way through the barely-existant rows of mismatched desks and chairs, placing on each table-like apparatus a small, black box; perhaps an inch and a half square. All the boxes were magically sealed so that only she could open them--she didn't want anyone to try and get ahead of anyone else... well, actually she did. She wanted all her students fighting to be the best at Transfiguration, she just didn't want them to have the ability of doing so unfairly. Perhaps sneaking a look inside the boxes wasn't the worst form of cheating, but still.
She had done her best to keep the purpose behind this lesson quiet, but even the walls in this school have ears, and mouths besides. She knew that despite her best efforts a few students would probably have found out; most likely only Girty--she was wicked perceptive--the others seemed a bit of a lack-luster group, but hopefully anyone who did find out would be wise enough to keep their yaps shut!
There were now only fifteen minutes left before the class would begin. She hoped she would have a better turnout in this class than she had in previous ones, but she knew that Transfiguration was not the fast-paced, exciting, adventure-filled class most others were... or at least it didn't seem so, but she hoped today's class would disprove that little theory.

Jac stood outside the Transfigurations Class, straightening her robes, and took several deep breathes. She had heard from many people the importance of this class and had to do better then her best today. Taking another breath, Jac opened the door and walked into the class.
No one else had arrived yet, I'm early? she thought in utter amazement. Jac was usually late but, she hoped, this would be a good reflection on her and earn her some points in Prof Morley's books. She looked around the class, seeing a box on every table and the professor. Jac smiled cheerfully, "Good day, Professor!"
Jac walked to the front of the class and took a seat near there. She wanted to be as attentive as she could and cast a good reflection. She set her rucksack on the floor next to her with one hand and picked up the curious box with the other. "What's all this about?" she asked the professor curiously.

Not quite sure what to expect Jacob walked into the Tranfiguration classroom. He looked around at the strange room with mismatched desks and yardsale chairs. Everything was red he blinked trying to get his eyes used to the brightness of the room. On each desk was a box knowing that it must have something to do with the lesson he sat down and left the box alone. Besides you never know what can happen and he didn't really feel like getting something unpleasant all over him. He looked around noticing only one other person in class so far. That was a good sign it meant he was early... for once.

Grace walked into the Transfiguration Class tentatively. She looked around the classroom and noticed two people had already arrived: Jac, a good friend in fact; and another Hufflepuff, Jacob. Grace smiled at each of them, then looked to the professor and said, "hi Professor, how has your day been so far?" With that she went to go sit next to Jac, waving slightly and smiling.

Jac turned to see who was entering and saw it was a hufflepuff. She sighed; it wasn't the person she was hoping for. Then the door creaked open again and Jac excitedly turned and saw that it was only Grace.
Though she was happy to see her, Jac wanted to see someone else. But never mind that, she thought. She smiled at Grace as she sat next to her and poked her arm, "long time no see, hey stranger!" She laughed softly, her hair turning a dark violet colour and her green eyes shining brightly.

Grace was still astounded every time Jac changed her hair and eye colour. She smiled at Jac, staring slightly, then chirped back, "yes well, you've been around too, haven't you?" She smiled then noticed the box on the desk. She picked it up and looked it over from all sides. "Curious, isn't it?" she said slowly.

Jacob barely raised his head as Grace walked into the room. He smiled and nodded in her direction and then went back to looking at the box on his desk. He nudged it over onto its side with his wand, then pulled back- nothing happened- So, with more boldness he picked it up and started turning it over in his hands. He had no clue what the teacher had planned, but he had a feeling it wasn't going to be boring.

'Three...' thought Professor Morely counting the students. There were still five minutes before class would start, but she could already tell that this class would be a difficult one for her to deal with. She sighed, then went about answering everyone's questions. She answered the Head Girl's first, it was the simplest to answer after all, "Quite tiring, but very well. Thank you Grace." She then turned her attention to the Gryffindor girl who tended to cause so much commotion around the school, "That, Jac, is all about Transfiguration." Oh how she loved giving vague and obvious answers to her students. It was one of her few less-than-perfectly-cheery indulgances.
She smiled as the only boy in her classroom thus far began prodding his box. 'Wise one, that...' she thought to herself, nodding and making a mental note to keep an eye on him. It was then that she became distracted by a change in the front of her classroom. 'Ahh, yes. I almost forgot she was a metamorphmagus...' she thought casually, her lips pursing ever so slightly. She tried not to judge books by their covers--especially when it came to students--but it was difficult when you didn't even have a chance to read the title... No matter. Perhaps this one was different... maybe... possibly...
"Alright then, while we have a few moments before our lesson actually begins, does anyone have any questions, comments, or favorite sweets?" she pulled a basket of assorted candies out from one of the compartments in her maze of a desk. She always thought sugary treats were the best way to start out a class. It gave the students energy, and that was something they would sorely need for today's lesson. She wasn't one to leave her students unprepared if she could help it.

Post by Girty Hubbles on Apr 6, 2007 7:35:04 GMT
Girty ran down the corridor as fast as she could also noticing that many other students around her were doing the same. Giving a quick glance at her watch she began to panic as she saw one of the hands were pointing to past the hour. However it was not until she gave it closer inspection she noticed that her watch had in fact stopped at five minutes past twelve. Being able to relax a bit more Girty stopped running and began to walk down the corridor while making sure that her robes were neat and that she turned up at the right room.
With a deep breath Girty pushed open the door and walked into the class room, looking around to see that it was in fact rather empty. At the site of Grace, Girty gave a small wave and sat down at the table next to her. After getting out all of her things for the lesson Girty looked up at the Professor.
“Hello Professor. Sorry I am late, my watch stopped.”
Girty raised her right arm limply into the air and showed her watch, however it did not occur to her that it would be very hard for the Professor to see the watch do to the distance and also the fact her robe was still covering it.

Grace quickly shot her hand into the air and said excitedly, "oh Professor, since you're offering, do you have any liquorice wands or any chocoballs?" She felt like she was being presumptuous but, had she not offered half a second ago? Indeed she had, so Grace had nothing to feel bad about. "Chocoballs are my favourites but liquorice wands hit just the spot every time."
She retracted her hand from the air as Girty joined her. "Hiya!" she grinned, "been busy that I haven't seen you much?" She, herself, had been rather busy. What with being Head Girl and patrolling and all the organisation of my up and coming quidditch escapade, Grace went through her activities in her head and they were many. But she didn't mind.

Jac nodded as she studied the box a little more, then she thought about the professor's cryptic answer. "Beg pardon, professor?" Jac asked, "'all about Transfiguration', what do you mean?" It looked like a simple enough box but knowing this school and everything in it, she knew that its appearance was deceptive. As she pondered the box, searching it's whole exterior, Jac didn't realise that her hair turned a violent violet purple.

Post by Loren Hayes on Apr 8, 2007 21:24:01 GMT
Loren bumped into the back of Girty as she rushed into the room, flustered. She had just seen Professor Hubbles milling about just behind her, snapping at small students in one of his mysterious tempers, and it did not help that she now had to deal with his little sister of all people - would the Hufflepuff champion know about what happened between Professor Hubbles and Loren down by the lake? Would the man be stupid enough to tell her?
'Oh, hello Girty.' Loren smiled happily, leaning over Girty's should to look at her. However, Girty proceeded to ignore Loren and sit down next to Grace instead. Well fine, she thought huffily. Suppose she does know...
Shuffling along the back row to the far wall, Loren sat down, pulling out parchment and ink. 'Sorry, professor,' she apologies as she smiled at the deputy head softly. 'What's this then? Loren picked up the black box that sat in front of her on the desk. It appeared that every other table had an identical one, several people doing their best to prise theirs open, inspecting them with confused glares. Let's see, Loren thought at she picked it up, tracing her finger along one of the lid's seams. What does this remind me of?

She smiled as the door opened once again, "You're not late at all Girty, right on time in fact." She tossed a package of chocoballs to Grace, then threw a bag of Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans onto each of the other desks. "Loren, so glad to see you again. Yes, I suppose I ought to start explaining the boxes now shouldn't I?"
A list of the houses and the points they'd earned for showing up on time and early, wrote itself in the air in front of the Professors desk: Gryffindor: 15 Hufflepuff: 40 Ravenclaw: 10 Slytherin: 0
"Right, then..." she waved her wand and all the boxes flew open, revealing an ordinary garden slug. She knew it wasn't the most glamorous thing to find in a secret box during your Transfiguration lesson, but it was the first challege in today's lesson. She scanned the room slowly, watching the students' reactions. "Parilis Econtra," she continued, "Does anyone know what it means?"

As the boxes folded back Jacob recoiled to see a slug. Hearing the teacers question Jacob raised his hand.
"Does it mean fat ugly slug?"
He prodded the creature with his wand for a moment, and sighed he had hoped something interesting would come out of the boxes. But, here he was face to face with a slug. He felt a little sorry for it here in this huge room at hogwarts and wondered if it would be returned to its slimy lifestyle after the lesson.

'Uuuuh...' Loren grimaced and gently placed the box down on the table as the lid popped off, revealing a rather long and fat black slug stuck to one of the inner walls, almost ready to heave itself over the brim and escape. The whole of the inside was covered in thick slime where it had obviously been trying to find its way out, thoroughly confused how it had got itself into such a situation no doubt.
'Pardon?' Loren's nose wrinkled in question as Professor Morley spoke. 'Parilis Econtra... that's Latin.' Loren said, although it was a little unnecessary. Most students at Hogwarts recognised Latin - it was where most incantations were derived from after all.
Paralis... parallel? Loren's face screwed up in thought as she rested her chin on her fist, staring at the black slug. To be equal to, or the same, or like... like... Merlin, I'm so bad at Latin. Econta to contra... contrary. Okay, so to go against or be the opposite of?
Loren looked at Professor Morley, frowning. Was it even worth saying the rubbish she had just come up with? 'The same, but different...?' she offered hopelessly.
"Fat ugly slug" came from the otherside of the room, and Loren could not help but snigger at the Hufflepuff boy's audacity. 'I wouldn't be surprised!' She remarked.
