Fallon shook her head as she continued writing down the information the Professor was spewing as fast as possible. She felt like she was writing in circles, but it sounded as though the story went in circles.
Fallon dotted her last period and kept her quill in her hand, ready to write. She had been encouraged by the points awarded to her house, and now, she wanted to prove to everyone in the room that Slytherins were the best.

Erys slunk into the room without a sound, her keen hearing catching the five-point award for Slytherin. Fixing her attention on the only other in her fellow house, she flashed her a grateful grin. "Good job." She mouthed, hurrying to a free seat in the back and sitting down beside Fallon. Being new was troublesome if you enrolled so deep within the term, especially if it was third and not first, but Erys was managing nicely. Removing the small book bag slung around her neck, she slid her hand inside it to retrieve her raven-feathered quill, a bottle of ink, and a fresh parchment. "Excuse my being late, professor. Im still really new to this school." She explained, truthfully sorry. This professor had been in Slytherin, she had overheard. Erys had only been sorted yesterday so her homework had stock-piled in only one day, not to mention she hadn't memorized her class routes yet. These next few weeks would be tough, but you'd never hear her complaining. This shouldn't take more than a few hours to finish, leaving her plenty of time for more important things. She had caught up considerably while on the ride here, so the amount dropped majorly.
Dipping her quill into the ink, she casually glanced at the other's notes to see what she had missed. Who should understand, since she was so fresh to Hogwarts it hurt. Quickly scrawling the information down in an elegant script, Erys held her head higher, angling her ear towards the Ancient Runes professor while awaiting her to begin speaking again. Was it question period already? Damn, she really needed a map. "Erys Grace." She whispered to the girl seated beside her, offering a small smile while introducing herself. Slytherin's were the best.

She watched as a dark haired girl she didn't recognize walked into the room. Alexis got the immediate impression that she wasn't that friendly. She wasn't sure why she thought it but she did and she watched as she sat down right next to another Slytherin girl. Figures Alexis thought to herself they did like to stick together that lot she wasn't sure why but she didn't care so long as they stayed away from her she had no problem. Again she turned her attention back to the class.

Catching the Ravenclaw girl looking at her, she arched an eyebrow, flashing one of those 'What?' looks. Believe it or not, but unless stated otherwise, she was nice to you on these conditions: you werent annoying, or you werent mean to her or her friends. She was prone to jinxing someone from time to time, like that Ivan Thatcher boy she didn't trust at all, and the occasional prank, but that was it. Ravenclaws were just a suspicious group of people jammed into the same house because they needed safety in numbers. Their smarts may have counted for the sorting in some way, but still. Why they always thought Slytherin's were mean, she had no idea. Licking her lips, Erys smirked, breaking her attention away from her house-mate to stare right back at the one who did to her. Honestly though, she wasn't that bad. Rolling her eyes at the look she assumed was wariness, Erys rolled her shoulders back, giving her paper the quick once-over to make sure there weren't any blotch marks. Satisfied, she signed her name again with the elegant script, popping her quill back into the ink jar.
So prejudices still existed between houses.. Tsk tsk. It was a shame, really. Erys preferred Ravenclaw over Hufflepuff and Gryffindor any day, because they were close to being Slytherin's themselves with their wit and their brains. They just didn't have the guts to speak their mind, or tell people what they didn't like about something. Silly girl, confusing opinions with taunts. Erys had minded her business. She hadn't even bothered the girl, at all. With anything. That Ravenclaw girl had no right to judge her that way without even trying to get to know her.

Grace had finished writing what the professor had said when she noticed the Ravenclaw in front of her looking back. She didn't understand why the girl was looking back, the professor was at the front of the class. However, when she heard her name be whispered behind her, Grace too had to look back. "Yes?" she said in response to hearing her name. It was then that she noticed someone else had joined the class.
"Did one of you call me?" she asked. It wasn't everyday that her name was said by a Slytherin but it was always a pleasant change when it did happen. She smiled from the one Slytherin to the other. She was certain that she had heard her name but by the looks she was getting started to doubt her surety. She hung her quill hand over the back of her chair and smiled at the two at the back of the class.

Erys had been about to open her mouth to ask why in her right mind would she know or say her name, when she paused- all she had said was 'Erys Grace'. That girl's name was probably either. Not wanting to have her house docked points for rudeness, she sighed, figuring a responce was necessary. "No.. I introduced myself." Erys explained, "My name is Erys Grace." Shifting her bookbag on the floor so that it wouldn't spill if she stood, the Slytherin girl drew her hand over her face, covering a soft yawn. Noticing now that the girl up front was a Hufflepuff, her face broke into a grin- she knew that if Veata had been here, she would have insulted her nine ways to sunday. She hated Hufflepuffs. Erys couldn't say she did either, since their house was called 'puff' like in 'creampuff', but sometimes she could be nice to them if they weren't annoying. Which the girl wasn't, in this class, so she decided to be momentarily civil. There wasn't much choice anyway, she was in class where you had to be kind to one another or else you get docked. agh.
Pushing her notes away to cross her arms over the table, Erys bit her lip, waiting for the professor to keep going. Or the Hufflepuff girl to keep talking. Or the Ravenclaw girl to keep staring. Something. She didn't do well when she was bored. Catching the girl smiling at her, Erys stared straight back, unsure of how to react to this unbiased act of kindness. Weren't Slytherin's supposed to be the bad guys? Shooting a brief smirk at the wary Ravenclaw, she then looked back to - perhaps it was Grace - Grace, offering a polite smile of her own. Take that, you who judges books by covers!

Post by Cassidy Gainnes on Aug 11, 2007 11:23:34 GMT
She watcher her class interact with eachother with slight amusement. It brought back fond memories of good friendships and bitter rivalries. She remembered being in Slytherin well; it was defnitely the most dificult house to be in. Your friends were loyal...but trying to make friends with other houses were difficult. Hufflepuffs were jsut generally too pleasant to be around her. Gryffindors were usually too blinded by their own prejudices to even speak to a Slytherin unless it were to insult them. Ravenclaws she usually got along well with; Cassidy had always assumed it was because they understood her wit.
It had changed since her Hogwarts days all those years ago she had noticed but apparently not everyone was party to those changes. She vaguely wondered if there would ever be a day when the four houses could actually tolerate eachother. She was older now, wiser and she knew that the differences that seperated the houses were few and far between. There were nice Slytherins and there were ambitious Hufflepuffs. There were Ravenclaw's of average intelligence just as there were brilliant Gryffindors. It was what you chose that made all the difference.
"I'm glad everyone's getting to know one another," she said dryly. "And Miss Grace; I'll grant leniency for you for a while; I remember my first days here at Hogwarts. And you needn't worry: it won't take long for you to figure out all the routes around the school and I'm positive some of your peers would aid you on occasion." She said with a smile.
"I believe that's all for today and I would suggest reading up on some of this between now and our next class; it can be a bit confusing when you first learn it. However if any of you are stuck on anything you should be able to find me in the staff room somewhere." She finished with a grin. "You are dismissed."

Slytherin was indeed the hardest house to be in.
If there was anything Erys couldn't stand, it was prejudice. Just because she was in Slytherin didn't mean she was evil. She was perfectly capable of being civil if the person didn't provide her with reason to be offended, but it was clear to her that wasn't the case. Why, that staring Ravenclaw girl seemed to hate her already! Strange, considering that Erys liked that house better than any of the other ones. At least the Hufflepuff girl was kinder, and because of it, the Slytherin flashed her a small smile. Again, an action extremely odd, since she was bred to believe they were a bunch of misfits sorted into one house. Now, this girl had proven that statement - made by her parents - was wrong. See? You learned things everyday. Apart from this sudden educational experiance, it was eerie how much she could relate to this teacher. Because of that, Erys might just strive a little harder for her. Not to impress her or anything, she wasn't a kiss-ass, but to maybe make Cassidy's day. You know, make her feel she was getting somewhere with this girl.
"Thank you, professor." Erys responded, sounding rather relieved to know she wouldn't be scolded. Making a mental note to memorize the class routes, the animagus stretched, gathering her supplies and sliding them gently into her bag. Popping the cork into her ink jar, she dropped that in last, knowing the glass was sturdy enough not to break. "Sure thing, professor Gainnes. See you later." Slinging the bag over her shoulder, the Slytherin sixth year flashed her teacher a grateful smile before standing to leave.

The Slytherin who Grace had just noticed, smiled at Grace but didn't answer. Neither did the Slytherin to her side. Believing she had merely heard it, Grace smiled to them again, her eyes daring from the one to the other, before turning around to face the Professor. It would not be the first time Grace had heard things but she hoped it was the last. She frowned slightly at her notes, dotted an i and smiled up at the professor.
She dismissed them. Grace sighed. This was the one class she was constantly challenged in and was always grudgingly left. She smiled once more at the professor and set her quill in the middle of her book. She was going to go straight to the library to research this new information thoroughly so she wouldn't be caught unawares again. Bottle, book and other equipment packed in her bag, Grace slung it over her shoulder and made to leave the class. "See you tomorrow, Professor," Grace said as she left.

Derek burst into the Ancient Runes Classroom. "Sorry I'm late professor." he quickly said as he walked quickly to his desk in the back of the room.
