Jeffery sat down in a chair that he had charmed up. He surveyed the empty classroom and decided to do some renovating. He changed the walls to show different "tapestries" of witches and warlocks doing different tasks, each at various stages of accomplishment. Jeffery then charmed around 20 double desks, each a different colour. Then with a final swish of his wand he made several more chairs, similar to his. He turned and made a large desk for himself. After reclaiming his chair, Jeffery twiddled his thumbs for a second then turned to the black board, and with his long and curly writing he wrote: Witch Burnings Throughout the Centuries Jeffery sighed and looked around with an satisfied smile, "Nope, History Of Magic with me is not going to be boring". He then leaned back into his chair, waiting for the students to arrive.

Cassy walked into the classroom sitting down in the back row of the so far empty class, her eyes looking at the blackboard she pulled her music device out of her ears and switched it off. Ok so for the first time ever a teacher had thought of a decent topic to teach in this class. Who would of thought.
Putting her bag down beside her chair leg she untucked her hair from underneath her robes, it had been windy outside and she hated how it had lashed at her face.

On time. And a bit early besides. IT was quite an accomplishment for Mozess. As shocking as it was, she had actually begun to take an interest in her schooling--le gasp. All of her other classes had turned out to be interesting, and as boring as History was, she thought she had better at least give it a try before complaining to the Head Master. Besides, she new she needed to be prepared for her N.E.W.T.s, as irritating as it was.
So she entered the classroom, nodding cordially to the professor with a quick, "Hello." She then made her way to the very center of the classroom, setting her black satchel on the floor beneath her desk. She took in the decor with mild interest; wall hangings of famous witches and wizards throughout history, each of the two-seater desks a different color, and the title of lesson 'Witch Burnings'. 'Well, this should prove interesting...' she thought, slightly raising one eyebrow.

Jeffery clapped his heands together "Welcome to History of Magic, this class shall not be the same old boring run of htemill class and you will not have to memorize dates. You will be able to relive as many as I can allow you to!" he siad in his great, booming voice. He gave the three students a smile "Now, we can chat for a while, as she wait for the other students to arrive"

History of Magic. Supposedly one of the most fascinating subjects around, something that Freya had not quite yet discovered. She blamed the teaching of course, she had always found she could only enjoy a subject if the teacher who did it made it so. She was therefore feeling optismistic about the lesson, different teacher meant different lessons and with a bit of luck, she could finally discover the interesting side of History of Magic.
The Ravenclaw entered the classroom quietly, and seeing that there was already quite a few people there, quickly found herself her seat in the middle of the classroom. 'Morning.' She said with a smile to the occupants of the classroom. The room itself had had a bit of a redeccoration, tapestries, that were moving of course, filled the side walls and Freya glanced at them all one by one, giving an approving look.

"Hallo" Jeffery smiled "Now, can any of you tell me who any of these witches or wizards are?" he indicated the tapestries that were along all of the walls. "They are all quite famous actually and there are four on that wall... over there" he pointed ot his right "That you should know very well." He glanced over at the four people... Rowena Ravenclaw, Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slythering and Helga Hufflepuff. He thought softly.

Mozess turned to her left so as to see the indicated tapestries. She grinned, knnowing right off the bat who one of them was. She raised her hand, then indicated the tapestry second to the right with a dark green border; it was of a skinny, gangly, pasty man with dark, deep-set eyes and a large emerald snake coiled at his feet, "Salazar Slytherin." She couldn't imagine anyone else having such distinctly Slytherin traits in their woven portrait with him... and by that theory it also meant... "So the rosy-complextioned woman to the right of him must be Helga Hufflepuff, the man on his left in that lovely gold and red mantel is Godric Gryffindor, and the woman on his left with the pointed nose and stack of books, os none other than Rowena Ravenclaw."

Dean looked over at the Slythering girl "Of course... she says the Slythering one first" he muttered under his breath. He stared at the tapestry for a few seconds "Aren't they starting to create the school, sir?" he said outloud.

Jeffery grinned "Yes! Yes indeed my dear!" he said "Five points for Slytherin." he said "Very well done." he watched some of the students grumble under their breaths.
"Yes indeed Mr.Winchester, that is what they are doing. Two points for Gryffindor! Now, more onto subject. Who can tell me when most witch burings took place?"

Ian had slipped quietly into the classroom just before the lesson began, and was staring intently at the tapestries across the desks. Frowning in thought, he tried to place them, feeling suddenly foolish when he realised he couldn't. Of course they would have been the four founders, it was History of Magic's favourite topic, after all.
Glancing back at the professor, he leaned back on his desk, "Fourteenth century," he said, raising a hand lazily. Ian was quite drawn to oddities, and Wendelin the Weird was definitely one of them.

"Congradualtions, that is correct. Five points to Gryffindor." Jeffery said, smiling at the young man. "Now I wish to ask you all something, off the record and I will not look down on you if you say now. He gave a small warning look to everyone "Neither will your classmates. Would you like the see a real witch buring?"

Post by Girty Hubbles on Mar 25, 2007 18:53:50 GMT
Girty was running late, and as she approached the corridor where the History of magic class was she could feel her heart pounding in her chest. A new Professor was always difficult, unable to know where the boundaries are. Skidding to a halt out side of the room Girty took a deep breath and slowly pushed open the door. Stepping inside she heard the professor award points to Gryffindor already. ‘He may understand’
“Sorry I am late, I….”
However Girty did not get to finish her apology as the words that the Professor said made her stop. A real witch burning. Girty thought hard, seeing anyone burn to death is not nice but then se remembered a story Dan had told her.
“But real witches and wizards never got burnt. They were able to use their magic to cast a flame freezing spell. It was only the falsely accused muggle’s burnt at the stake, and personally I do not want to see that.”
Girty only realised after she had finished talking that she was still standing in the door way. Felling rather embarrassed and stupid Girty lowered her head and made her way to the closet chair possible.

Post by Loren Hayes on Mar 25, 2007 23:48:06 GMT
Loren had been sat at the side of the room, taking in the tapestries - some of which were quite gruesome - and eying the new professor with much interest. Their last History of Magic teacher had been a very disconnected and elusive man who eventually got the sack for turning up to his own lessons less and less, and Loren supposed this one actually had a passion for what he was teaching.
The Ravenclaw tutted as she missed several questions in her distracted state. Ravenclaw was doing absolutely abysmally this year points wise! She wondered what had gone wrong - were Ravenclaws failing their reputation as bookworms? Were they becoming lazy? Or was it that dreadful new Head of House Starsmore - a man who preferred getting drunk with the Slytherin Head of House and attempting to behead students in lessons rather than spend time in the common room cheering on his Ravens?
Girty suddenly spoke up, a critical frown on her face. 'Not all of them escaped, Girt.' She smiled knowingly. 'Most of them got their wands confiscated the moment they were caught, and sometimes they were hung instead of burnt. I'd like to see you try faking suffocation, even with magic.' she laughed.
Loren looked deploringly at the professor now. 'And I don't suppose you'd show us a real burning, would you, professor? Just the kind that Girty mentioned?' She asked, a hint of nervous hopefulness in her voice.

Jeffery paused " I said real burnig, oh dear. I ment... a real witch that they caught... she, of course, is not actually buring. I would never show you somone buring to death... images liket hat stick with you for a long time." his eyes grew misty, btu he blinked them away. "So, would you liekto dive into a memory?" he asked "To refraise it tp the original meaning." he gve a warmiong smile to Girty. "Please take your seat." he added.
