Grace had posted a notice in the Hufflepuff common room about open positions weeks ago but no one seemed interested. So, instead, she had chosen a more practical approach. She would hold try outs and hope that people would show up. She strolled onto the pitched, broom on her shoulder and trunk floating behind her.
She stopped in the middle of the pitch, setting everything down, and looked around the pitch. She smiled to herself and was happy to be back on the pitch. She could not wait to fill the open positions or for the others to arrive. Postions need to be filled, that's how it works, and they were now all open.

Olivia bounced into the pitch. She wasn't sure what had overcome her when she decided she would try out for her house Quidditch team. Perhaps it was the strange feeling that Hufflepuff Quidditch morale was low, or it was just one of her spontaneous impulses. However, Liv figured that joining the team would be fun. Give her something else to do.
She spotted a lone Hufflepuff already on the pitch. She knew this to be the captain of the team. "Hey Grace!" She said in a happy voice. She placed the end of her broom on the ground, leaning slightly against it. Liv looked around. "I hope someone else shows up." Liv said with an encouraging smile. "I'm sure that they read the time wrong...all of them..."

Grace heard a voice and turned to see who it was. A new face? she though excited. This is going to be a good day! "Hey!" she said back, not know the girl's name. "I'm sure they'll be her soon!" she replied with a happy smile. Grace felt a chilly breeze on her back and it swooshed her hair into her face. After brushing it behind her ears, Grace looked at the new comer.
"Have you played before?" Grace enquired, trying to be friendly and still captainly. "Do you have any idea of what position you'll play?" It still bothered Grace that she did not know her name so Grace came right out and asked, “Sorry, what’s your name?” It was rather forward but how else was she going to know?

I hope. Olivia thought. It wouldn't be much of a team with just two girls on it. Not saying that because that they were girls that they couldn't win. They could probably kick some seriously Hogwarts butt if they were allowed to play.
"This is my first time playing competitively." Olivia answered. "Me and my dad used to throw around a quaffle once and awhile. I always had good aim, so I figure I'm gonna try for chaser." Olivia said, deciding what position she would try out for as she spoke. She hadn't really thought about it, but now that she thought it out chaser seemed logical.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Liv said. She had known Grace from her being head girl. It didn't occur to her that Grace wouldn't know who she was, not that there was any specific reason that she should. "Olivia Belmont." Liv said. "I'm in the fifth year." She smiled, holding out her hand.
"So...how long have you been flying?" She asked, trying to keep up a conversation so as not to call attention to the lack of people gathering on the pitch.

Chaser? Grace thought, that would be wonderful. But should probably see what she can do ... Grace smiled and nodded at her decision. "Well Olivia Belmont," she said cheerfully, grasping the fifth year's hand firmly, "chaser sounds good to me." Then she thought that there was just the two of them, they could play a little one-on-one. Grace was no chaser but she would try, and that’s all she could ask of any of her players.
Olivia then went on to walk about how she and her father had sometimes played. Grace had never done many things with her father so simply smiled. "I've been flying ever since I got to Hogwarts," she smiled happily, and with a bit of a giggle then added, "so that would be about seven years." She giggled again. "I'm muggle born, you see? And how long have you been flying?" she asked. This was her favourite topic and she was always happy to talk about it.

Ok, this was depressing. No one had shown up. Didn't anyone care about Hufflepuff Quidditch! Olivia felt bad for Grace. She probably was an amazing player and captain, but apparently no one cared.
Liv smiled, shaking Grace's hand. "That's cool." Liv was no stranger to a muggle lifestyle. Her parents, both half bloods had at least one muggle parent. Her mother's mother kept a normal household and kept all the magical things to the back of the house in two rooms for her husband. Liv was very close to her grandmother before she died.
"Oh lets see, I believe..."Liv tried to remember the first time she was on a broom stick. She had to be just about eight or nine. "...about 7 years. Just like you!" Liv smiled and laughed.
It was getting late, Olivia was afraid that Grace was going to call of the try out. Liv had been hoping to fly a little. Flying free on the pitch was a lot different than flying in her back yard. She could go very high or she would be seen and there wasn't a lot of room to go super fast.
"Are we going to fly?" Liv asked, hoping Grace would say yes.

“Bloody teachers do they not understand students have a life.” Girty was mumbling to her self as normal as she ran down towards the Quidditch pitch. She was running late and as normal Girty passed the blame onto somebody else, a little technique she had picked up form Dan.
As she ran onto the pitch Girty let off a small sigh of relief to discover that only 2 people had arrived. Skidding to a halt by the side of Grace it took Girty a few moments to gain her breath back and wipe the sweat off her forehead before greeting everyone.
“Hello Captain! Sorry I am late…well later then you guys. Where are the rest of the team?”
Girty looked around the empty pitch and stands wondering if someone was hiding in the shadows. After the realisation that no one else was really around Girty turned to Olivia and shot her a small smile.
“Afternoon Olivia. I am happy to see you here. It is good that we have some fresh blood in the team. You best be good…well you are a Hufflepuff, so of course you are, I think I will stop talking now.”
Girty lowered her gaze and kicked the dirt, It had been a rather stupid thing to say and with out looking up she could tell that Grace would be fighting back laughter.

Grace smiled at Olivia as she had to count the number of years. Grace even giggled a bit. Nodding to Olivia's suggestion to get up in the air, Grace noticed a figure running towards them. "Yeah," she began, "that ... sounds ... like ... a ... Girty!" Grace yelled as her friend came into view. Smiling at her, Grace stifled a laugh. Chuckling slightly, Grace shook her head, saying, "no problem! You're hear so that's a start." Girty called Olivia by her name so she guessed they must know each other, Great! So I don't need to introduce them.
"Girt," Grace said once she had gained her breath back, "Olivia is here to join the team, says chaser is where her heart lies." Then she turned to Olivia and said, clapping Girty on the back, "Girty is our most valuable player! So you two toss the ball around and try score by me." She unlocked the trunk next to them and carefully took out the quaffle. She handed it to Olivia, thinking this would be a good test, what to do first, and hoped onto her broom. She sped off towards the three golden hoops and soon was in position.

Olivia looked at the quaffle she was tossed. She smiled. Ok, this was it, it was her time to show herself that she could play. "Shall we?" She said with a smile and swung her leg over her broom and kicked off from the earth.
Olivia sprang up, stopping even with the middle goal hoop. Clutching the quaffle in her right arm, she swerved a bit, getting the feel of holding the ball. "Ok then. Here we go."
Liv darted left, speeding up, and slowed down, to dart right, looking over her shoulder for Girty. Finding her in her back view, she tossed the ball over her shoulder towards the older player, and darted toward the upper hoop, putting herself in position to score in either hoop.
[sorry, computer break down, back now though (: ]

As the Quaffle was thrown to Olivia and she kicked off the ground Girty could not help but smile. Jumping onto her own broom and kicking off the gourd Girty felt the wind rush past her ears, the ground bellow grew smaller and smaller and the stands began to rush past. Trying to gain her focus Girty looked up to the other Hufflepuff chaser then suddenly a red blur came towards her. Lifting her hands quickly off the broom handle Girty reached out and caught the quaffle and brought it close to her chest so it did not slip away.
Flying further up the field Girty moved from left to right trying to get Grace to follow her instead of Olivia. Then with a small smile Girty gave a quick glance to see the her fellow Hufflepuff flying near her. Girty threw the quaffle as hard as she could in the direction of Olivia hoping that she would be able to get it through the hoop.

Olivia rounded about, watching as Girty flew, trying to get Grace interested in her. Olivia dove down and began flying directly under Girty. As Girty zigged left, Olivia zigged right, flying in an aerial pattern.
Olivia caught the eye of her fellow teammate, noticing Girty's slight smile, and shot forward and rose in the air in front of the sixth year. Girty had thrown the Quaffle to the racing Olivia, who caught it, and threw it toward the goal hoops immediately after feeling the weight on her finger tips. She smiled as she slowed, watching the ball go straight forward toward the nearest goal post. Perfect shot. Olivia beamed.

Grace watched Olivia closely. She had speed, tenacity and a good instinct. Grace approved of making her a chaser, nodding to herself and hovering in front to the centre hoop. She soon was brought back to the task at hand by the sound of a quaffle being caught nearby. Grace took up her defensive stance and watched the quaffle closely, doing a slight 's' shape on her broom.
She watched Liv pass to Girty, "good pass Liv," Grace called out, wanting to encourage her. She flew off and now Girty had the quaffle and she was too close for comfort. Grace moved closer to the right goal hoop, thinking that Girty would shoot. But she didn't, she passed to Liv again who shot for the left hoop and scored. Grace clapped, bowed her head, "well done." Then she went and retrieved the quaffle.
Coming back to them she said, "alright, you two fly to the other end of the pitch, see who the first is to the ball, and then come at me again." While she spoke, Grace pulled the quaffle back and with great strength, she had honed through much Keeping, threw the quaffle far and high, reaching forty feet in a matter of seconds. This time it won’t be so easy!
Points: 5 to Liv

Maria ran out onto the quidditch pitch, everything she needed in hand. She was incredibly late and felt incredibly bad about it. She mounted her broom and lifted off the ground and headed toward Grace. When she reached her Maria gave her an apologetic face as she started to apologize. "I'm so sorry I am late."

Grace saw someone run onto the pitch and fly towards her. She smiled as she recognised the Hufflepuff's new beater, Maria and she waved as Maria approached her. "It's alright," Grace said, smiling encouragingly, "you're just in time in fact, we just started."
Grace flew towards the trunk in the centre of the pitch and waved her had to show Maria she must follow. She picked up the bat, once she had landed, and passed it to Maria. "Here you go," she said, "and one bludger coming up." She opened the lid of the truck, let out one bludger and watched it rocket away. "So you can try hit it towards the two chasers while they try to score and I'll protect the goals."
Grace smiled at the girl as she informed her of how the practice was going to run. Then she hoped onto her broom and sped off. "Enjoy!" she cried, waving as she headed back towards the goals.
