"Ah hello Mr. Chase. Do I really need to repeat myself? There is a weapon at Hogwarts and we need to find it. Once we get enough members we will launch an attack on the ministry. Now ask any questions you wish." and Mandrake sighed ignoring Brian's ignorance.

"You know I am not the old ignorant student I used to be. I am a grown man who owns a shop." He said looking toward Mirishka who happened to be there.

"Well I know that. Do you think I would want you to be part of the Alliance if you were unintelligent? I chose you because you have what I'm looking for. Raw determination and intelligence to back it up. Is there any questions you have?" asked Mandrake looking around at the group that was steadily growing bigger.

"Nope, but I'm sure someone does." he said looking around. He saw some unfamiliar faces, and then he saw his friend Kim. He then saw some other people that he had seen roaming around Hogwarts.

Jerred sighed, sitting in the tree and listening in. He was bored and at best not at all entertained about the threat of the Ministry obtaining a weapon, which he knew that the Black brothers only wanted for themselves. Jumping from the tree and landing lightly on his feet, Jerred stood up and crossed his arms.
'And what do we get out of helping you two fools? Money? Respect? Girls? Fame? A puffed poodle named Daisy?' Jerred said, using his fingers to list the options of the rewards. 'Or is it simply a promise of pure, unadulterated power that we most likely will not ever get because you two are incompetent? Whatever it is, only a fool would come blindly here without thinking it through. My speech is my answer to your help, damn idiots.'
Jerred turned away from everyone and began to leave the area, not caring who was there or why they were, that he knew that if he didn't help them away from the promise of power he'd lose half of his House in one year, not a good thing when Slytherin House needs it members alive.

"My dear Jerred, everyone of those rewards and more await those who find the weapon. Do you not understand eternal glory? You all will get a share in the fame, fortune, and power, and you will have driven the ministry out of Hogwarts! Do you not understand the rewards of this? Or are you to bent on the good vs. evil child ideas? There is only one evil and that is the ministry. Surely you know this Jerred. Why are you such a fool!?" and Mandrake started to get angry. "Leave then, but do so with the knowledge that this isnt going to kill people. It will save them!"

'Just like it saved you from being killed? Isn't the threat of death and the pain of it enough to drive you away from such pathetic gains of a weapon that may only exist in rumour?' Jerred replied with, stopping suddenly and looking over his shoulder, his eyes showing all the defiance he felt. 'If anyone else wishes to go along with the fool who died and had to use dark magic to revive himself then do so, but I warn you, your death won't be swift by the Ministry's hands, they'll torture you til you cannot stand the pain no more, then let you rot for all eternity.'
Jerred turned away from the group of men and students, but paused for a moment. Turning around fully once more, Jerred spread his arms wide. 'Are we Slytherins so desperate for the House Cup that we'll do anothers work? Are we desperate enough to put our lives on the line for something as sick and pathetic as driving the Ministry out of Hogwarts which we can do ourselves? Are we that pathetic that our once great House has to do trivial chores for a man who cannot see the truth?' Jerred said, lowering his arms and snuffing the group before him. 'If you are, then I won't tolerate being around you, as I'd rather kill you on sight.' Jerred spoke in a dark tone, his eyes showing he was telling the truth. He turned away and left the group, walking quickly through the forest and returning to the castle.

Post by Marishka Mayfair on Mar 10, 2007 23:48:49 GMT
Marishka had resigned to lying on her back on a fallen tree trunk for some time. It seemed that this secret meeting was not so secret as she had first assumed, for nearly half of the Slytherin common room had shown up, most of them without a clue what was going on. The biggest surprise she found was Brian Chase, the muggle lover from several evenings ago. Now what was a spineless boy like him doing in a place like this - discussing power of all things? Marishka could not help but silently scoff to herself.
It was then that another boy entered the gathering (via a tree no less - did he not have a social life?) and began rambling of an ambiguous speech about incompetence, evils and the pride of Slytherin. He's rather up himself, isn't he? Marishka thought to herself with a raised eyebrow as she sat up. Fifteen and he thinks he's the only one whose got it all figured out! Pathetic.
Mandrake seemed determined to receive any questions, and so Marishka pushed herself off the tree trunk and began to pace slowly. 'These "rewards" sound marvelous,' she said agreeably, but not without a note of impending criticism. 'But what on earth could any of us do to help you? Half of us here aren't even old enough to use magic outside of school, and you're absolutely right - none of us are ready to take on a ministry official. To be honest, I don't think there's any way you could ever make us that good!' she was glaring at him now, her hands placed on her hips. 'By the sounds of it this is way out of our league. Perhaps that know-it-all -' she spoke of Jerred. 'Has a point. You're using us.'

"My dear girl you don't seem to understand! Do you not realize that I used to be the dueling club instructor? Do you not realize that I was one of the greatest Aurors the ministry has seen in a century? I could teach you to defeat any enemy! You all have great potential! Don't you realize what is in front of you? Power, glory, riches and anything else your heart desires lays in front of you. I would give that to you. I'm not going to force any of you to stay, but I want you to realize what you have here." and Mandrake crossed his arms and stared at each member of the group in turn.

Marishka titled her head to one side now, studying Mandrake with eyes full of cynicism. She could not make up her mind if he was trustworthy. Of course, it was not the issue of whether he was telling the truth or not (he was truly offering them something he thought real) - it was the issue of whether he could realistically deliver all that he promised. How did he know for sure all of this would be worth it if even he did not know what the weapon was?
A gentle October wind whipped up around the group now, lifting Marishka's hair and pushing its long, earthy fingers through her roots. How she had missed the Season of Dying. In the breeze the hiss of crisp leaves against one another filled her ears, and without realising she began to talk parseltongue...
'I'll do this, Mandrake,' she began, but to the others around her it would only be a malevolent hissing whisper. 'But I want to wait and see first. This all seems a little unattainable just yet... but I am not saying no. I will probably give in eventually.'

Mandrake flashed her a smile. He finally found another one like him. Quickly he spoke back. "You do as you wish, but I want you to know that you will always be welcome in The Alliance. A higher up member at that." and he spoke normally. "Understand?" and he turned to the rest. "You are all welcome in staying."

Marishka's lips parted slightly. She would recognised that unwonted pronunciation anywhere! For a moment she wondered how Mandrake had known she was a parselmouth, but upon clearing her own throat awkwardly she realised she had just been speaking it herself without meaning to. The wind had stopped and so the sounds of the forests returned back to normal, leaving her without the false hush of snakes to fool her. It seemed that Mandrake had mastered speaking paseltongue at his own leisure. Marishka felt a sting of jealously, having never herself been able to do it on command...
'That sounds... tempting,' she admitted with an askew smile she could not hide. She looked about now, realising the other Slytherins had been observing in perfect silence without being noticed - something she did not like. Sending them each a churlish glare she strode toward the broadest exit in the clearing. 'See you soon.' she muttered to Mandrake without looking at him, disappearing down the natural path, back toward Hogwarts.
