Mandrake sat silently by the lakeside thinking of future affairs. A time of war was approaching and preparations needed to be made. But he could wait. Today was a day of relaxation. He still wasn't used to be being alive again, but its better than where he was. He sighed leaned back against a tree and thought how easy it was to not be a teacher anymore. Fools.

Caleb was walking by the lakeside when he noticed his older brother. He walked over and with a sigh, sat down. "Hello brother."

Loren rubbed her tired eyes as she walked out of the castle and onto the hot grounds. Last night she had barely slept a wink due to another girl in her dormitory snoring loudly, and consequently she had just done a particularly difficult Arithmancy test of the magical properties of the number seven. Thankfully lessons for her today were welcomely over, and with a brand new Encyclopedia of Jinxes she had received by owl post this morning, Loren was heading down to the lake.
She realised however that she would not obtain much privacy - her usual spot was taken by a dark haired man quietly observing the lake, his back to her. Even though he was sitting down Loren could tell her was quite tall. Settling for a boulder a few metres away from him, Loren snuck a sideways glance, inspecting him quickly. He was certainly no teacher she was familiar with - and something told her he wasn't a ministry official... so who was he? Startled, Loren's mind flashed back to her meeting with the rogue in the kitchens, and she wondered if this new stranger was even allowed to be on the grounds.
Opening her book to a random page, Loren pretended to read it as she watched him carefully, taking in his appearance and demeanour...
Another man suddenly joined them, and Loren recognised him straight away - Professor Black, her Potions teacher. Brother? she mouthed suspiciously to herself. 'Hello, professor...' Loren interrupted the two of them, suddenly feeling curious.

Mandrake sighed and whispered something to his brother. He stood up and walked back to wards the school by the forest, but instead turned back so he was behind this new coming spy. He walked up behind her so close he could smell her hair. In a voice louder than a whisper he spoke, "Anything I can help you with?"

Upon the two men lowering their voices Loren suddenly felt very unwelcome, blushing terribly and burying her gaze back in her book where it belong. She was so intent upon not looking at them anymore that the man sneaking up behind her went completely unnoticed. He whispered gently in her ear, and Loren jumped so violently she dropped her book, letting it tumble off her lap and onto the yellowed grass and dry dirt. She gave an involuntary gasp as she looked round over her shoulder, only to come face to face with Professor Black's brother, their noses almost touching...
'Oh! Erm - I was just... I mean... I just wonder - well - who... are you?' Loren cursed herself mentally for loosing her nerve so easily. The man's eyes pierced hers hypnotically, and she wondered how he could intimidate her so much just by looking at her. 'I'm Loren Hayes.' She added lamely, the silence killing her.

Mandrake stared straight into her eyes. "I am Mandrake Black, former flying instructor and formerly dead. Not that it concerns you though. Is there something you want Loren?". His voice was unnaturally cold. He didn't feel like controlling her with kind words.

'Formerly... dead?' Loren's face went a little pale, her eyes widening in horror. Although it had not before, small bits of information and distant memories began clicking into place together, and Loren was looking at him properly now. Although she had not taken any flying lessons herself (they had been unnecessary with her Quidditch skills), she certainly recalled the elusive flying instructor she rarely came into contact with. And she also remembered his small funeral barely a few months ago...
The Ravenclaw's head swam and she shuffled away from him a little, although she was unsuccessful in putting enough distance between them to feel safe. 'Mandrake Black...' She muttered absent mindedly as she could not help but inspect his skin and eyes for signs of decay. There was little evidence to suggest such a thing, but there was definitely no mistaking who this was in front of her.
Loren struggled to her feet. 'You shouldn't be here! You should be dead - who... who bought you back?' she asked, still slightly horrified. She had an over powering urge to grasp her wand.

Mandrake laughed. It was a cold laugh full of menace. "Who brought me back? He is sitting but a few meters away from you my dear girl." and he pointed at his brother. " I was needed. Something big is happening at Hogwarts. I believe you know what." and he smiled a cold smile at the Ravenclaw.

Loren frowned and looked at Professor Black disbelievingly. Her thoughts were obvious through her expression - you're a teacher, what the hell were you thinking? Loren could not stand to imagine the dark magic Professor Black must have employed to perform such a feat, and she was silent for a moment, the realisation that her teacher's soul was probably permanently damaged and unwhole dawning on her...
'Wait, what?' Loren snapped back to reality.
Something big is happening at Hogwarts. I believe you know what.
It was true indeed... she recalled the strange movement of the forest a couple of nights ago, the evil blackness swelling in its centre as she watched it from the Room of Requirement... and the ministry's presence was of course a major give away... but Loren had had no idea it involved waking the dead. 'What could you possibly be needed for? What makes you so special?' Loren glared at him weakly, angered by the dark magic that so clearly ran through his resurrected body now, but too afraid to really stand up to him.

'I suggest as a former Professor myself as well as formerly deceased, Ravenclaw, you step away from the man now.' Leigh said, appearing from nowhere, wand in hand ready, his eyes narrowed at the resurrected Black. Leigh stepped forward and placed himself between the girl and the man, his eyes never leaving the cold that radiated from Mandrake. Carefully readying himself in case anything happened, Leigh smiled.
'So, my saving your life doesn't seem to turn out to be a good thing, does it?' Leigh said, mocking the same cold tone that Mandrake had used. 'He promised you power and all you got for trusting his word is a death worse than the one you have already suffered? For shame Mandrake, for shame on you. Pity that the power of the artifact won't be yours, he'll stop you before you even move for it, trust me...'
A cold wave washed over Leigh, the same feeling he had felt so many times before. He soon looked over his shoulder into space, a worried expression on his face as he felt the numbing cold come closer.
Turning back the Mandrake he sneered. 'He comes again for me, he knows where I am, and he knows where you are. I doubt he'll move slowly enough for you to catch up!' Leigh said, before turning to look at the Ravenclaw. 'If you value your life and the safety of the entire world, return to the castle and back to Ravenclaw Tower, he cannot find you there... He already has you marked! Move now!'

The Shadows Become The Light

The shadows came for him, the shadows wanted to bathe in the strength of his soul again, the shadows felt the resistance of one so strong.
The shadows moved with effortless ease, the shadows moved like a gentle stream, flowing smoothly over the trees, bushes and lifeforms, consuming the life energy as it went, never enough, never enough...
Morziak smiled as he felt the presence of the one who had escaped him, as well as others whom had had marked unwillingly. The darkness that enshrouded him marked him as a dangerous man, but to the untrained eye of a useless pawn he appeared to be a man of great wealth, watching the sky from the top of a cliff, making it appear he was free of any burden.
HIs attention was on the fear that the fool Addis held, the very being of the escapee's body writhing with what appeared to be dangerous elements for him. A feint smile appeared on his face as he felt the fear grow within the man as his shadows raced for his position.
The shadows cease, their masters will beckoning them to return...

The sickness in Loren's stomach dragged itself up a notch as she now stepped back, letting a man she knew to be Professor Leigh Addis move in front of her...
Dead. They're all supposed to be DEAD.
Loren whipped her wand from her robes and darted away to stand far from the three men. Professor Black was still sat on the bank, watching carefully with a sharp look in his eye, ready to jump to attention if need be. Professor Addis and Mandrake however were squaring each other up, and as Loren looked between the two frantically, recalling their mournful funerals and all the dreary black and white Daily Prophet photographs she had seen concerning their untimely deaths, she could not help but gag.
Were they inferi? She suddenly thought with a cold dread. 'What are you talking about?!' Loren demanded of Addis suddenly, jabbing her wand in his direction. 'Who promised anyone power? Neither of you should be here - it's illegal!'
Of all things, the law should have been the last thing Loren was worried about, but it was the only thing she could think to threaten them with. She could not just walk away now...

Mandrake laughed again in that cold laugh. "Addis my dear friend. I see you made it back too! Sad though, how you have to interfere in my business. You seem to do that alot. Instead of senseless violence we normally show to each other, how about we join sides. A time of war is approaching Leigh. Join the right side." and Mandrake gave Caleb the signal to come over here.

'You've met him... Morziak.' Leigh said, turning to speak to the girl. 'And he promised these two fools power! There's your answer.' Leigh turned away from the student, raising his wand, a grim look of determination on his face as he watched the Black brothers carefully.
'If you were sane you'll see what you're doing is wrong.' Leigh said calmly, his composure remaining. 'War may be coming, but I won't be siding with a man who is blinded by greed.'
Leigh raised his wand above his head, arm raised high. 'Now, I bid thee fare-de-well! Cespa!' Leigh cried out.
A haze began to drift into the area, the thickness of the fog-like mist making it hard to see further than a few inches. Leigh turned away immediately, feeling slightly drained from the use of the spell, but knew that he had to run. Knowing where the Ravenclaw girl was, he ran there, seeing a dark shape ahead of him, he picked her up and carried her away, despite her loud complaints.
((And yes, I made up the spell because I couldn't find a smoke illusion spell.))

(( Nice post, Leigh. I'm not sure if this thread is now over, or if you want me to reply? I'll go ahead and reply but if you haven't got anything planned then message me and I'll delete. ))
Loren coughed uncontrollably as a monstrous wave of smoke descended on them. She sneezed violently as it flew up her nose and stung her eyes - and she could not help but vaguely noticed it tasted a lot like dragon's breathe (in other words, terrible). Tears began to seep from her eyes from the harsh substance, and sniffing and swearing she yanked out her wand, preparing to muttered a counter curse.
The Ravenclaw's plans were ruined however when someone fast and heavy bowled into her side, scooping Loren up and moving so quickly she hardly noticed when the smoke was no longer polluting her. 'Oy! What the hell do you think you're doing - put me down!' She shouted furiously as she kicked and struggled, punching the back of whoever had her. The sunlight bathing down on her was suddenly replaced by cold shadow, and Loren stopped protesting long enough to realise she was now just inside the Forbidden Forest. 'Okay, enough!' Loren said shortly as she slipped off her kidnapper's shoulder, only to realise it was the ex-professor Addis.
'What was all that about?' she demanded in a low hiss, guessing it would probably be a bad idea to draw the Black brothers to their new spot.
