Marcus had woken early, as he usually did but had stayed in the common room for a while before deciding his stomach was talking too loudly to him to be ignored. He had put all his days books in his bag and went down to breakfast as he had Transfiguration first thing straight after breakfast. He enjoyed Transfiguration as it was challenging and didn't want to be late. Tardiness wasn't a good thing.
Arriving at the Great Hall when many other people were there, Marcus walked quietly and quickly to an opening between older students at the Hufflepuff table. From where he was sitting he could see the expance of the Hall, the other house tables, the staff tables, the door from the Entrance Hall and everyone eating and laughing together. He put his bag on the bench next to him and looked to the food.
He was most impressed with the food selection at Hogwarts and the options were endless but making a choice was always a challenge. Marcus revelled in challenges. 'Hmm,' he mumbled, 'what shall it be today?' He looked up and down the table, looking at the bacon, eggs, toast, jams, cereals, juices and milk jugs. He couldn't choose and simply sat staring at all the wonderful food and the wonders that magic brought to his life.

Alice glanced down at her watch that her parents had given her as a good luck present only to be horrified by the fact that time was moving faster then she thought it could. Alice was always at the Great Hall for breakfast for when it appeared, not only did it mean that she was guaranteed a space at the table but she was always scared that the food would run out as she would have to miss a meal. So as the small Hufflepuff ran from the common room to the Great Hall all she could think of was if there would be enough food for her. Dax continually told her that the food supplies would never run out she still did not believe him, he had a habit of telling her what she wanted to hear and she feared this was another one of those occasions.
Although as she entered the hall the sound of the other residents in the castle drowned out her rather loud sigh of relief at the sight of food still sitting on the gleaming golden plates. And as she wondered down the long house table her wide eyes took in the wide range of food that was available. Like the other first years she was still in awe of the selection of food and it being of such a high quality.
“Morning Marcus. Have you done your Transfiguration homework? I thought question 5 was tough but I found the answer in a textbook.”
Alice sat down opposite her fellow Hufflepuff and grinned at him before joining him in the search of something edible and tasty for breakfast.

Alexine opened her eyes slightly. She stretched and yawned at the same time. She realised that she had forgotten to set her alarm clock,so she turned around and took her watch which she never used. She decided to go out of bed and get into clothes etc. She washed her face with cold water as she was still sleepy. She yawned another time. Yep, it got late tonight. She put her clothes on with a tempo of 0.1 km per hour. Why couldn't she stay in bed? Well, she could but that wouldn't be the right attitude. When she was washed,make-upped and awake she headed to the Great Hall. Her stomach was asking for food, she asked by herself who would be there at this time. Since it was pretty early. She stepped in the great hall and stood there for a moment. She looked around. She studied the ceiling. Looked at the staff table which was completely empty. As she walked on to the Hufflepuff table she saw students sitting at their house tables. She said goodmorning to all. The Slytherins gave her a nasty face, the Ravenclaws couldn't hear her because they were into their books and the Gryffindors only gave a quick salute. She saw to small creatures sitting at the Hufflepuff table. First years, she thought. Alexine sat down next to a boy.
Hello what's your name she asked? and What are you going to take for breakfast?

Marcus decided on toast, bacon and syrup. His mother had taught him about having bacon with syrup and when he had the choice he always had it that way. When he had bacon and syrup he always thought of his mother and he missed her home cocking but then he had the food that was offered to him at Hogwarts and didn’t mind so much, being away from home and when his sister, Amara, visited him it was like being at home because they would tease each other like they were at home. Looking around the hall, he looked for his sister but then remembered that she liked to sleep in and didn’t care much for breakfast.
He looked back at his plate as he put the fork on the side of his plate after having placed a few slices of bacon. He reached for the boat with the syrup when he heard name. Looking up, Marcus saw Alice sitting across from him. He jumped a little, his glasses sliding down his nose. Marcus scrunched up his nose and pushed his glasses up with his free hand.
‘Oh,’ he said, taking a deep breath and smiling at her. ‘Good morning.’ He poured the syrup over his toast and bacon and set the boat down again. ‘I didn’t have a problem with question five,’ Marcus said with a smile. ‘On the train here I read the Transfiguration textbook so I knew that answer. I did have a problem with that last question though but I got help so it all worked out in the end.’
He began to eat his scrumptious meal with his knife in his left hand. His mother always thought that it was strange how Marcus was left handed but kicked a ball better with his right foot. Marcus smiled at Alice and added, ‘Did you manage to finish the Poisons essay?’
Just then an older girl sat next to Marcus and being the nervous little boy he was, he jumped, his glasses sliding down his nose again. Taking a few deep breaths, Marcus pushed his glasses back up his nose and tried to smile at the girl but couldn’t. ‘I’m-I’m-I’m Mar-Mar-Marcus,’ he stammered, still trying to get over his shock that an older student would sit next to him let alone talk to him. Amara had told him how nasty some students were to first years and he had been waiting to be teased but it hadn’t happened yet.

Poor boy, why did he stammer? She smiled at him to make him feel comfortable, but when she smiled she had the feeling that he could have the idea that she was going to tease him. Or even worse, that he thought she looked terrifying. Why would she tease first years, she got teased herself. If you think about it, older people tease those first years maybe because they see themselves in it and wanna punish themselves for doing wrong.
Alexine heard Marcus and the girl opposite of Marcus talking about Transfiguration before she joined them. Transfiguration was one of her favourite classes, it was almost the only one she could follow and after that she could Transfigurate also. She said Transfiguration is nice, isn't it?.While she said that she looked at the girl in front of Marcus.Sorry, I forgot to ask your name.I can be rude sometimes though.
Alexine took some milk,céreals and a little bowl. She munched the céreals away, which were very crispy today, and took some pumpkin juice. This was always the best thing in the new term, drinking pumpkin juice again.

Alice watched Marcus closely as he filled his plate full of food and then poured syrup over everything. Alice could not help but giggle at this, she had often heard of someone having a sweet tooth but that was a little bit extreme in her eyes. (Although this was the girl who can not eat strawberries with out coating them in sugar first) However because Marcus was doing it Alice had a sudden urge to pour syrup over all her food to see what it was like and almost to fit in with her fellow class mates. She listened to what Marcus had to say about the homework and her mouth dropt open slightly when he mentioned about reading on the train.
“I never thought of doing that, good use of time ain’t it.” Alice reached forward for some toast and took a small bite out of it before continuing playfully. “You’re smarter then you look Marcus.”
It was then an older Hufflepuff joined them and Alice quickly stopped laughing and swallowed her toast. There was something about the older students that still scared her. They were used to everything, they were used to pushing the smaller kids around and Alice did not want to get on the bad side of one, especially a Slytherin. She had heard rumours that Slytherin capture first years and take them to the dungeons and lock them up and leave them to rot. However this student was a Hufflepuff and she seemed nice, well at least she was interested in talking to the small first years. Alice giggled at how Marcus stuttered at introducing himself to her and as she asked her name Alice held out her hand proudly like she had seen so many of the older students do. (Although she was still convinced that shaking hands were for middle aged muggle business men)
“Alice Simmons. Pleased to met ya.”

Alexine shaked the hand of the girl, she seemed much more confident. It's all in the eyes. People express themselves with their eyes. Most don't even know that they are. If you want to check if someone is speaking the truth, stare intense in the eyes. Most will look away. As Alexine thought to much she just asked another question.
'Are you both doing some interesting today?'She said this with a sleepy voice, since she needed her bed. Her bed was unbelievably warm today and supercomfy.

All Marcus could manage to do was smile at Alice as his mouth was full and he knew it was rude to do that. He couldn't help but read when he was bored and as fun as the girl with the changing hair was he soon got bored of it and turned to one of the books he had with him on the train. One of the girls with the girl with the changing hair had said what a good idea it was to get up to date with the work but how she didn't feel it. Marcus had wondered if that was how people always were: smart enough to know what they had to do but too lazy to actually do it.
Another mouthful went down his throat as he swallowed. The older Hufflepuff seemed nice enough and hadn't given any indication that she was horrible so Marcus relaxed. He took a sip of his pumpkin juice and looked down at his plate. He hadn't eaten much so far but he was already beginning to feel full. This was the problem with him, he could never tell early in the morning how hungry he was. It didn't matter because he knew that he would eat everything on his plate for two reasons: it would keep him full till lunch and it was just too nice to leave.
He smiled at Alice before looking at the older Huff. 'Just the normal: classes, food, more classes, more food.' Marcus pushed his glasses up his nose and smiled at Alice. 'A full day if you ask me.'

Alexine laughed. "I had expected an answer like that since it is just another ordinary school day. Especially for you as first year, I hope that you're both smart enough to get in the third year because than there is a chance in you rhytm. You can go to Hogsmeade, really nice there but I am not going to tell too much about it.I am doing the same thing as you to day, I hope I get involved in something today.." Alexine sighed and ate on.

A cup of tea that is what Alice needed, but the problem was there were so many different types’ jugs and pot that could continue a nice warm cup of perfectly brewed tea. Wiggling her figures Alice selected her first jug and after carefully picking it to bring it closer to her she gave it a quick sniff to be most disappointed to find it was Coffee. Sticking her tongue out in disgust Alice quickly placed the jug back down and reached for something that resembled a teapot. Only problem was that once she had started to pour it Alice was yet again disgruntled to find out the liquid inside was green and did not taste like tea at all.
After trying another three pots Alice was about to give up when she saw and heard an older Hufflepuff down the table mention tea and reach straight for one of the pots. With wide eyes Alice swung her legs around over the bench and ran up the side of the table with her cup in hand and ran straight to the side of the Hufflepuff. “Could ya pour me a cup? We ain’t got any tea down that end and would love some.” The older Hufflepuff turned around and grinned happily at the little first year and seeing Alice’s shy little smile they could hardly say no.
Carefully carrying her cup back Alice placed it next to her plate so not to spill a drop and sat back on the bench next to Alexine just to hear her talk about Hogesmeade. Alice found it highly unfair that the lower years were not allowed into the village however she knew of a loophole that she was going to exploit and the little first year found it hard to keep it to herself.
“My step-brother Dax said he is going to take me to the village one weekend. No one will argue with him, he is the groundskeeper after all.”

Marcus was chewing fervently as he looked at the older Hufflepuff as she spoke. He had heard about Hogsmeade from his sister but not very much as she didn't have a way with words. All he knew was that they weren't allowed to go until their third year. He didn't know why that rule was put in place and most of the time rules made sense to him but this one didn't. He wasn't going to complain or argue because that just wasn't what Marcus did but he pondered on it.
All of a sudden Alice jumped up and ran away. Marcus, putting another mouthful in his mouth, watched her with great curiosity. Why was she approaching the older students? And why was she carrying that empty cup? Turning back to the older Puff, Marcus swallowed and blinked at her.
'What do you mean "something"?' he asked, his worry making his voice shake like jelly. Marcus wasn't the one for adventure that was dangerous and the way she spoke of it, it sounded dangerous. Just then Alice returned putting a full cup of tea on the table. She began to speak about her step brother. She often did, like Marcus was sure he did about his sister. Marcus looked at her with a small smile before swallowing. 'Do you think Sam and I could come along too?' he said. Though he knew the rule he thought it was a silly one and was very interested in Hogsmeade.
