Girty was lying on the sofa, but not in the conventional way. Her feet were at the resting on the top, and her head resting on the floor. Her eyes moved quickly from side to side as she scanned the book that was only inches from her face. Occasionally the odd giggle would sound out, or a sneeze followed by a groan as her head banged back onto the hard common room floor.
Girty could not remember how long she had been lying like his, only that her eyes were starting to become blurry, her legs had pins and needles and if she lowered the book the room would start to spin because of all the blood that had run to her head. After yet another sneeze and a bang to the head Girty had decided it best to move, although as she had discovered may a time this was not the easiest position to get out of. First of all she put down her book and placed her hands beside her and began to wiggle. Slowly she began to move along the floor and eventually her legs were down on the floor with her.
“Yay for me!”

'Yay for you!' Shabnam echoed, laughing. She had been watching the other Hufflepuff shift around in her upside down position on the settee for several moments, finding it fascinating to study the girl's technique of getting out of that particular reading/thinking position. Of course, Shabnam concluded that her own method was much better - placing your hands on the floor behind you and bringing your legs over your head to you rolled backwards onto your feet was much better. She would obviously have to show the girl some time.
'I read like that too. It's ace, isn't it?' She said dreamily as she walked over and sat down on the seat cushion where the girl had just been. 'It makes things so much more clearer... like your head gets really hot, and it just makes you concentrate more.' She sighed, recalling that she hadn't read in a while. She looked at the other girl thoughtfully. 'I'm Shabnam, if you'd like to know.' She titled her head to one side, holding out her left hand.

Girty was rather surprised to hear another voice in the common room and to find someone else who read like her. Girty felt a surge of excitement rush through her, this girl seemed to have the same train of thought as her. Reframing from jumping up and down on the spot Girty put all of her ‘happy’ energy into a broad smile and enthusiastically shook the hand of Shabnam.
“Girty Hubbles at your service. Hufflepuff, champion, werewolf, chaser.”
Girty broke off and let go of Shabnam’s hand while she thought about what she had said, she kept running it through her head at different speeds, sometimes with gaps others with out. After a few moment of thought Girty best thought she should make sure that there was indeed no mistake about what she had just said.
“I am not Hufflepuff’s champion werewolf chaser, and even if there was that title I would be the one being chased…but saying that chasing a werewolf would be fun….maybe I should get Dan to try and make it an official sport to Hogwarts…maybe it could be around in the tournament.”
Girty’s eyes glazed over as she thought about chasing a werewolf through a dark forest with only a wand in hand and the pressure of the whole Hufflepuff house behind her. Then maybe a dragon could jump out and she would have to try and take down the dragon, or be eaten by it, the latter was the most likely.

'Girty? Oh wow. My cat is called Girty! A werewolf and a cat - both called Girty - in Hufflepuff...' Her eyes wandered to the ceiling thoughtfully, a small, closed lip smile spreading across her lips. 'That's so ace, isn't it?' She looked back at Girty, confirming her usual verdict that applied to literally everything mildly cool - ace. Just... ace. 'I don't think I've ever met a champion werewolf chaser, but I have talked to a chess champion who got chased by a werwolf... when it wasn't a full moon.' She leaned forward, closing the gap between them. 'He could never tell when he was who.' She whispered, as if the man in question was close by and might be offend by her suggestion of his impaired rationality.
Placing the end of her hair in her mouth, she began to chew it, gesturing with her free hand for Girty to show her the book she was reading. 'I have a book which is quite special. It knows the future.' She said cryptically, a secretive gleam in her eye. She took the book from Girty and read the title. 'Oh ace. Muggle history!' She mused, leafing through the pages backwards.
Without looking up she pointed toward the fireplace. 'Mine's on top of there. If you like I can tell you what will happen tomorrow... I'd tell you today's but it's far too late now, I'd have had to have met you yesterday to tell you about today. I would've told you that you'd be meeting me, but that would've been wrong since you would've met me by the time I'd read your fortune... yesterday... isn't that ace?' She looked at Girty with an intrigued smile, promoting her to feel the same wonderment.

Girty listened to her explanation and nodded her head thoughtfully. She had a point but Girty thought she may have found a way around it. Stoking her face with her left hand like Dan did with his beard Girty thought it out once more before challenging Shabnam back.
“But….if you read the fortune yesterday and worked out you were going to met me, then you could have gone and found and told me that you were going to met me yesterday, thus meaning you could have then read my fortune yester for today so then I could have known that we would have met….I mean we would meet.”
Girty had almost confused herself, having to switch from past tense to present tense to future tense was more then she could handle. She was never a master with words anyway and she was specking so fats that she was sure that she would have lost her train of thought earlier. All she could hope was that this Hufflepuff was also on the same wave length and could translate Girtyish.

'Mmmm, indeed.' She replied simply, nodding slowly as she softened her eyes thoughtfully. 'That's logic. You're so clever Girty.' She grinned, her slightly large teeth making her smile look even bigger. You'd love my cat. You're both ace like that I think!'
Standing up Shabnam dropped the book onto the table in front of her and wandered over to the fireplace, slipping her own book out from behind the clock. 'What's your star sign, middle name and favourite colour?' She asked, getting down on the carpet in a kneeling position. Girty was looking at her in a confused manner but Shabnam just smiled further, patting the space on the floor opposite her with an encouraging expression. 'I can't tell you what I should've done yesterday, or what could've happened today, but I'll tell you about tomorrow. And a bit further if you like. Lovely, yeah?' She opened the book now, a frayed, bent stack of large pink and blue cards spilling out. 'You have ace socks by the way.'

Girty could not help watch Shabnam with a bemused smile, this girl was just as much as a scatter brain as she was. With yet another mention of her cat Girty gave a small laugh as she remembered a tortoise shell cat that would always look up every time someone said Girty’s name. Still giggling to herself Girty moved towards the other Hufflepuff and flopped on the floor beside her.
“Aquarius, Marigold, yellow…but not lemon yellow that just reminds me to much of this terrible hat I used to have, but more of a pure yellow…kind of like butter, but not that muggle spread able stuff. Proper butter that does not melt.”
As Girty gave the details she was asked for her eyes darted form card to card that was on the floor and she studied the book, it was rather plain looking and she would not have given it two thoughts if she saw it in library. After she had looked at everything at least twice, her mind buzzing Girty looked up at Shabnam waiting for to ask anything else.

'Marigold? That's adorable!' Shabnam cooed softly as she began to shuffle the deck enegetically, so much so that several of them flew out of her hands onto the carpet - noticeably the Gravestone, the Badger and Knight in Shining Armour cards - and she quickly placed them in Girty's hand, tightly squeezing her eyes shut.
'Shuffle them, please.' She requested matter-a-factly as if she had done it several times before. There was, of course, no need to know Girty's star sign, middle name or favourite colour... she just wanted to know. Shabnam always found that little details like that about people always seemed to come up later on, like carefully laid coincidences or plots. It was so weird sometimes.
'Your brother is the Charms professor, isn't he? He's ace.' She mused cheerfully, smiling with her eyes still closed. 'I sent him strawberry and cucumber ribbon sweets last year because he said he liked my essay on joke jinxes, but they're still on his desk. Doesn't he like them? They're my favourite if he doesn't want them...'
Opening one eye slightly - trying to see if Girty had finished shuffling the cards - she caught sight of the Dancing Banshee card. 'When your done, lay out seven of them, please.' She squeezed her eyes shut again.

As the cards where shoved into her hands Girty gave a small smile before carefully shuffling the cards. Girty had never been amazing at shuffling cards, She had a habit of them flying out of her hand in all over the place, so this time she made sure that that did not happen. It took longer but it saved Girty the embarrassment. However they all nearly went flying out of her hands when Shabnam mentioned the laces. Dan had always wondered who they were from, and in case they were cursed he kept trying to offer them to students, however they were more concerned with Dan being nice. She would be happy to tell him it was from a fellow Hufflepuff, he might actually gain a soft spot for Shabnam.
“They best not have love potion on them. Dan has had enough of them in his time.”
Girty gave a small giggle as she continue to shuffle cards making sure that she did not lose a single one. Then slowly she placed down the first 7 in a line on the floor in front of Shabnam. Girty was slowly getting exited, she was unsure whether to believe what was said or not, her father always told her never to waste her money on those sort of things, and Dan too had gained that attitude and tried to pass it onto Girty. But she was willing to be impressed.

'Well just make sure he has them before the next dry spell or he'll get a migraine that'll last for three days.' She glanced at Girty, wondering if she had made sense. 'That always happens with Honeydukes sweets, haven't you ever noticed...?' She asked as if it were meant to be obvious.
Before turning over the cards Shabnam lined them up delicately with two fingers, the need for their symmetry more important for the sake of Shabnam's obsessive compulsive habits rather than the smoothness of the reading. It didn't matter if they were flying around wildly in a storm or scattered about the castle, they always seemed pretty steadfast in portraying their message...
Clearing her throat and tucking her hair behind her ears, Shabnam fell silent, staring down at the cards unblinkingly. It looked as though she was trying to see through the backs of them before turning them over, as if the predetermination might help. Quite suddenly to picked up the two cards on either end of the row, swiftly turning them over with both hands, moving inwards until only the middle card remained unturned. She left that one alone.
'Let's see, Girty...' She hushed quietly, beginning to bite her nails as she stared carefully along the cards, her eyes moving from left to right several times in rapid movement. 'Oh wow,' she suddenly breathed, smiling as she picked up one of the cards closest to the centre. It portrayed the image of a trophy and oddly enough it looked much newer than the others, not frayed or bent around the edges. 'I've never seen this one before! Ace.' She mused for several moments before catching Girty's curious expression. 'It happens sometimes, it's brill - I'll be reading and they'll just pop up out of no where, and I'll have never even seen them before! It's killer!' She laughed, shaking her head in wonderment.
Setting it back down, she moved to the one on it's right. This one had the image of the Battle Field on it. Shabnam frowned slightly as that particular card always gave her a lot of difficultly. She'd never quite understood what it was trying to tell her, or even what it was supposed to represent. To most people it would've seem obvious that it meant conflict or some kind, but Shabnam had always found that assumption to be wrong...
Both of the cards on either end of the row were quite intriguing, and Shabnam picked them up, holding them in front of her nose to inspect them more carefully. The Stranger and the Empty Portrait. 'Spooky.' She shivered inexplicably, looking at Girty.

Girty was feeling very exited, she could not wait to hear what the cards meant. Her father had always told her not to waste her money on things like this, he called it fake magic and it was a belief that had passed onto Dan. But she did not care, anything for a bit of fun, she was not going to rule her life by what ever reading Shabnam made. But the first few cards that arrived worried her. The idea of a new card appearing that she had never seen before was very strange and for that card to be of a trophy. Maybe Girty was reading to much into it especially combined with the card that showed a battle filed. Wild ideas began to run through her head, ignoring what ever else Shabnam said.
‘What if the ministry come and attack during the tournament. What if the only task is to kill each other and the last one that services wins the cup. What if it is not even for that what if it was for Quidditch and they get hit by thunder during a match….or what if the house cup gets so competitive Dan sends the Hufflepuff’s on a mission to kill there rivals, a huge Hogwarts civil war.’
Girty began to bit her nails nervously as she waited for the answers to be told, she needed to be clamed down otherwise she will start dreaming about 15 foot penguins that breath fire again.
