Kasey's day hadnt gone to peachy. Her jacket had been stained by pumpkin juice by some Slytherin (She hoped it was an accident-but she knew how cold they could be), she failed a Potions exam, and she got yelled at by a Teacher for not bringing her broom to class. Yes, today wasnt going very well. Sometimes Kasey hated not ever fitting in at Hogwarts because people were sometimes intimidated by her appearence. She had black hair, rare in Hogwarts, and a small nose ring she sometimes wore. She often had whispers behind her back on how "wierd" or "scene" she was. And Kasey acted like she didnt care. Besdies, she had been in and out of Foster homes, and devolped a tough outshell, why in the world should she? The truth was, she sometimes did care. She hardly had any friends, and often refused to talk to her twin sister, Morgan, due to the fact she might of been called a loser. God, it was like regular school all over again.
Well, isn't this just great. Now the Librarian is giving me the evil eye... Kasey thought, scrambling in the Library, barely dodging the restricted area. In the corner of her eye, she saw a librarian giving her a confused yet suspicious look, like Kasey might steal something. When Kasey turned away, she rolled her eyes to the heavens, gorlwing quietly to herself. Who possibly understood her? Whatever. Kasey brushed her hands lovingly against the dusty books on the shelf. Vampires, Elves, Nymphs, and Wolves gazed at her in the books. She grinned, brushing her raven hair back and sorting out a Vampire tale, sititng in a comfortable chair.
Despite suspicious stairs, Kasey's lips moved with the words she read in the book...
"Vampire myths go back thousands of years and occur in almost every culture around the world. Their variety is almost endless; from red eyed monsters with green or pink hair in China to the Greek Lamia which has the upper body of a woman and the lower body of a winged serpent; from vampire foxes in Japan to a head with trailing entrails known as the Penanggalang in Malaysia. However, the vampires we are familiar with today, although mutated by fiction and film, are largely based on Eastern European myths. The vampire myths of Europe originated in the far East, and were transported from places like China, Tibet and India with the trade caravans along the silk route to the Mediterranean. Here they spread out along the Black Sea coast to Greece, the Balkans and of course the Carpathian mountains, including Hungary and Transylvania. Our modern concept of the vampire still retains threads, such as blood drinking, return from death, preying on humans at night, etc in common with the Eastern European myths. However many things we are familiar with; the wearing of evening clothes, capes with tall collars, turning into bats, etc are much more recent inventions. On the other hand, many features of the old myths such as the placing of millet or poppy seeds at the gravesite in order to keep the vampire occupied all night counting seeds rather than preying on relatives, have all but disappeared from modern fiction and film. Even among the Eastern European countries there is a large variety of vampires."
She slunk in her chair, eyes wide with interest, reading on. "Romania is surrounded by Slavic countries, so it isn't surprising that their vampires are variants of the Slavic vampire. They are called Strigoi based on the Roman term strix for screech owl which also came to mean demon or witch. There are different types of strigoi: strigoi vii are live witches who will become vampires after death. They can send out their soul at night to meet with other witches or with Strigoi mort who are dead vampires. The strigoi mort are the reanimated bodies which return to suck the blood of family, livestock, and neighbours. A person born with a caul, tail, born out of wedlock, or one who died an unnatural death, or died before baptism, was doomed to become a vampire. As was the seventh child of the same sex in a family, the child of a pregnant woman who didn't eat salt or was looked at by a vampire, or a witch. And naturally, being bitten by vampire, meant certain condemnation to a vampiric existence after death. The Vircolac which is sometimes mentioned in folklore was more closely related to a mythological wolf that could devour the sun and moon and later became connected with werewolves rather than vampires. The person afflicted with lycanthropy could turn into a dog, pig, or wolf. The vampire was usually first noticed when it attacked family and livestock, or threw things around in the house. Vampires, along with witches, were believed to be most active on the Eve of St George's Day (April 22 Julian, May 4 Gregorian calendar), the night when all forms of evil were supposed to be abroad. St Georges Day is still celebrated in Europe. A vampire in the grave could be told by holes in the earth, an undecomposed corpse with a red face, or having one foot in the corner of the coffin. Living vampires were found by distributing garlic in church and seeing who didn't eat it. Graves were often opened three years after death of a child, five years after the death of a young person, or seven years after the death of an adult to check for vampirism. Measures to prevent a person becoming a vampire included, removing the caul from a newborn and destroying it before the baby could eat any of it, careful preparation of dead bodies, including preventing animals from passing over the corpse, placing a thorny branch of wild rose in the grave, and placing garlic on windows and rubbing it on cattle, especially on St George's & St Andrew's days. To destroy a vampire, a stake was driven through the body followed by decapitation and placing garlic in the mouth. By the 19th century people were shooting a bullet through the coffin. For resistant cases, the body was dismembered and the pieces burned, mixed with water, and given to family members as a cure."
Kasey now slammed the book shut and tossed another one, about Mermaids, reading intetly, satisfied with the knowledge she had just earned.

Dan had been happily sitting in the staff room catching up with some reading when he was rudely interrupted by an owl nipping his hand. Around the small ball of fluffs ankles was a note, unfolding it with great expectations Dan was very disappointed to find out it was a reminder that he was on library duty. With a groan he patted the owl a bit to hard on the head and in turn got a nasty bite from the creature. Only the old crack pot of the librarian would keep an owl like that. Grumpily walking down the corridor Dan sucked the blood that was pouring out form the bite making sure that non of it got on his clean robes. He shot every single student that walked past him an evil glare and refused to return any smiles. His mood was not improved as he entered the library, it was unusually full. ‘Must be raining outside.’
Pushing his way through the packs of children Dan tried to find an area where no one else was standing. Surveying the area he noticed a pack of Slytherin’s giggling behind a set of books. Two things were wrong with this, one Slytherin’s do not giggle and two they were reading. With a grunt Dan walked over to them and showed his authority and within minutes they were thrown out the library along with a group of Gryffindor’s. Dan headed back to his corner when he heard a rather loud bang. He was ready to start shouting when he noticed it was only a Ravenclaw girl throwing down a few books. If it had been another day and Dan was not in such a fowl mood he would have ignored it and happy that she was actually reading, but today was different. Changing his direction Dan swiftly moved towards the girl, stopping directly in front of her.
“That is not the proper way to treat school books. You should be lucky I do not take house points. Now apologise to the book before it bites your figures off.”
Dan tried to add a smile to the end of the sentence only to be defeated by the sound of a group of Hufflepuff’s screeching with laughter. However all he needed to do was look over his shoulder and shoot them a evil glare to get them to shut up. With a small cough he then turned his attentions back to the Ravenclaw.

M o r g a n L 0 V E from the stillness of it all. Her sister being the bookworm she was wasn't making a sound and to be honest - Morgan needed some kind of action. Adventure. Atleast some bloody talking! She sat down by her sister, tapping on a book she was supposed to read. Oh, screw that. They both knew how unliked they were and the rumors of "scene" and "emo" they were. Morgan didn't mind it. Haters made her excited. But Kasey was much more sensitive than her. She sunk down in her chair, getting a quick glimspe of what Kasey was enjoying. Oh, boy. Vampires. How boring. It wasn't like a vampire was going to swoop down - or whatever the things did - and kidnap a bunny. Though it would be quite humorous if it did indeed. She fiddled with her pink tongue ring, wondering if it felt good if she kissed a boy with it on. She flustered thinking about that. Oh, God. SHe never even kissed a boy. Fifteen and never kissed a ... How embarrasing. She dug her nose in the book, like the secret would explode out if she did not. Wasn't that sad? Fifteen and untouched. But-boom- she noticed it. The head of the Hufflepuffs, Professor Daniel Hubbles. She stayed close to her sister. She knew he was speaking to Kasey. But she couldn't let a chance with talking with a real human being pass. "Isn't it a little to early to be harrassing Ravenclaws?"She grinned, locating it was just a little joke. The screaming students filled her ears. Morgan thought it was instantly "cool" that he could silence them with one evil glare. Cool indeed. [/ul]

Kasey looked up to see her sister and Professer Daniel Hubbles. She tried her best to bite her tongue and hide a sarcastic retort. At home, in the Foster houses, she would of been able to get away with it because the parents would expect it. But here, it was near impossible. She glared at Morgan with suh an intensity of hate she could. Her perfect sister. And even though they were indentical, she still thought Morgan was prettier. Kasey growled under her breathe and looked up at the teacher with no emotion. She reached for the Vampire book and flipped her hair back, beggining to be a annyoying habit.
"I'm sorry I tossed you, book. next time I'll be sure to throw you harder." Kasey slammed her eyes shut. Darnit. She said something wrong. But she didnt know, was that disrespectful or not? Kasey wouldnt know...she acutally had never been told no before.
"You taking house points?" She sneered. Now her tempter was boiling. "How will that affect me? In fact, I could really care less." Kasey stopped herself in time to say anything else, but tossed the book in the sammer manor she had.
Cringing slightly, she looked down. Her face was red with shame, but her pride wouldnt let her show that to anyone. She bit her lips, that were already bloody and cracked.

Dan looked own to see yet another student sitting there, a Hufflepuff and this one was talking. He was actually shocked for a moment he had missed someone from his own house, and she indeed seemed to know him well. With a small smile he looked down at Morgan sighed. “You will soon work out Miss Shaw that it is never too early to harass a Ravenclaw. Even more so on a rainy day when one must be coped up inside.”
Dan had a grudge against Ravenclaw’s, there was a few who he could stand, but only a few. He found them an a arrogant bunch of know it alls who thought themselves better then anybody else, but they did not seem to understand that you can get no better then a Hufflepuff. Dan was actually tempted to burst out into his rant about how Hufflepuff’s were and always will be the best house when the silent Ravenclaw found her tongue, and it seemed once she had found it she had trouble controlling it. With raised eyebrows Dan looked down at Kasey as he took in every little thing she said. And it did nothing but prove his won theory right.
“You care nothing for house points? Well then you will not mind if I take 10 off you then for cheek to a teacher. In fact that is being far to kind. Not only did you threaten to break the rules again, you then did do the act. So maybe in the circumstances 20 would be better.”
Dan broke off and looked down at his watch and gave a small sigh of defeat when he noticed he still had another two hours of duty remaining, it would be cruel to take so many points off straight away, for once Dan would show his soft side to a non Hufflepuff.
“But it seems it is your lucky day. I will only take 5 we do not want to take Ravenclaw out of the running already. Now I advice you not to throw a book or be cheeky to me again, or when I am in earshot that is.”

[size=1Why did it have to be raining? Aiden looked out the window of the Gryffindor common room, sulking as he watched thick drops of water splatter against the window pane. He hated being stuck indoors, especially during a free afternoon when there was nothing at all to do. Aiden heaved a heavy sigh turning back around to face the noisy common room. Another downer about the rain was that the common room was packed. Aiden's gaze slid across one group to another, watching as a group of 3rd shouted and yelled about a game of wizard's chess. Aiden resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He couldn't handle all the noise and screaming today.
Aiden felt something whip past his legs and glanced down just in time to see a cat on the run for it. He raised his dark eyebrows curiously, wondering what it was in such a hurry for when a small pack of first years sprinted past him. A few knocked into him, almost causing Aiden to lose his balance. His patience tested, Aiden grabbed a straggler by the arm. " Get the cat. Sit down. And shut up." He ordered in a warning voice. The small boy nodded, looking terrified at being given orders by a 6th year. Aiden released him and the boy ran to his friends. Aiden felt a small stab of guilt. He usually wasn't this mean, but he was irritated by the crowded noisy common room. He needed out.
He started towards the door, pushing his way through the groups of fellow Gryffindors. Most ignored him or simple moved out of his way. A group of 4th year girls nearly fell out of his path, all giggling and blushing as he brushed past them. Aiden smirked, shaking his head. Girls. He finally reached the common room's exit and stepped out into the empty hall. His mood was almost immediately better. He took a deep breath, finally free to move around as he pleased. But where to go? Aiden didn't bother worrying and started on the stairs. He would let his feet lead the way.
He stepped off onto the nest floor, strolling casually down the hall. He passed the library and glanced inside. It was filled slightly more than usual. A bunch of people reading. Nothing exciting about that. Yet he found himself stepping inside. Aiden hardly ever went to the library, yet here he was. He had nothing better to do afterall. The librarian gave him a sweeping glance, eyeing him suspiciously and ending with a disapproving glare. His reputation exceeded him. Everyone knew he was trouble. Aiden simply smirked back. He headed towards the back shelves, passing 2 girls and a professor in a heated argument. Aiden raised his eyebrows slightly, wondering what it was all about. He gave them a friendly smile as he passed before disappearing behind a shelf of books. He scanned the titles, not very interested. Why was everything so boring today?

M o r g a n L 0 V E . "Sorry, sir. I'm sure she didn't mean it."She whispered, trying to be very flirty like. Something she practiced in the comfort of her own mirror. She took Kasey's wrists and set her behind her own body. "Ravenclaws ... Little fools, aren't they?"She tried to laugh, but for some reason Kasey getting in trouble made her stomach boil with anxiousness. She knew she shouldn't have cared. Or, maybe she should ... Sighing, she looked up and smiled. With that, she saw another boy walk past and grin at them. How nice. She beckoned him over, not sure if he caught the notion and turned her direction to the professer once more. "Especially little ones."She played with her tongue ring sheepishly now, blushing a light crimson. [/ul]

Kasey just stared at the proffesser. Actually, it would be cruel of her to ruin it for her fellow Ravenclaws. She registered it a moment, then picked up the book, setting it properly where it began. She returned back to where she was sitting.
"Happy, now?"
She said ily. It wasnt that she thought herself better than everyone else, it was that she was a impudent brat. She thought she had to be, to survive this world without parents, something everyone else taken for granted.
"Okay, fine. Please, just dont let me screw...." She chose her words carefully. "Ruin it for everyone else. If you have to, make me dust something or go to detention or whatever. Or make me stay after class. Whatever, I really dont care. it was my fault, so I should pay the price, right?"
Kasey thought she proved a valid point, so she sat there, satisfied with her explanation. Thats when Morgan had to open her mouth. Kasey jabbed her twin sister right in the ribs.
"I'm not little!" She protested. Kasey was only five minutes younger than her twin. She loved being right, and hated being proved wrong, which was ninety nine percent of the time.
In this, her eye caught vison of a boy. A Gryffindor, she presumed. When he past, she blushed and smiled back, turning the other way to make sure he didnt see her face turning red. She slumped her chair, yet again, waiting for her sentence.

Aiden scanned a few more titles. For some reason 'Magical Lawn Care' and 'Encounters With Horned Snails' didn't seem interesting. Aiden ran a hand through his messy hair before letting it drop back to his side. He looked over his shoulder and decided to try the other shelves, though he doubted he would find anything interesting. As he was walking out from behind the shelf, he caught the eye of one of the girls he had smiled at before. She motioned him over. Aiden raised his eyebrows, slightly surprised before changing his direction. Talking to someone seemed much better than searching for an interesting book that didn't exist.
Professor Hubbles seemed to be taking points off for one reason or another. He seemed to be in an irritated mood today. Actually, it seemed a lot of people were. Aiden pulled out a chair at the table and dropped into it. He leaned back, glancing up at the professor. " Hey Professor...Hope I'm not interrupting..." He trailed off, a small smile pulling at the corners of his lips. Aiden was a student of his. Plus, maybe by his sudden appearance into this conversation, Aiden could save getting anymore house points taken away from this girl than necessary.

Rylan glanced up at the sky, feeling the first few drops of rain. The clouds above him swirled grey and white, threatening to spill it all at any moment. He averted his eyes, gazing back towards the lake once more. If it was going to rain, he'd better run for cover. Rylan atually enjoyed the rain, though. He liked the sound of it, even the smell of it. Plus it was always fun to play around in. Rylan began trudging up the path to the castle, his black converse sneaker scuffing against the walkway. He noticed everyone else was retreating indoors as well. He made a face. Now the castle was going to feel more crowded than usual. He felt another drop, and as seconds passed, they continued to increase.
He was halfway to the doors of the castle, when the downpour started. Water seemed to be dumped from the sky, pounding down to earth and soaking Rylan almost instantly. He sprinted towards the castle, though he was already wet. By the time he was finally safe inside, he was panting and out of breath. He shook his hear, pushing the dark wet strands out of his face. Now what? He glanced towards the floor to see he was dripping water everywhere. If the caretaker were to see him, Rylan would be in trouble for sure.
He turned and headed towards teh Ravenclaw common room, hoping to change into dry clothing. He hurried down the hallway, surprised at how fast his clothing seemed to be drying, yet he was still very wet. He walked past the library, but stopped when he heard a familiar voice. He slowed down and backed up a few steps. He recognized Kasey Shaw's voice. They were in the same house and year and talked every so often. He noticed her sister as well, and was even more surprised to see Aiden. Aiden was a Gryffindor, yet he and Rylan had met when he was just a first year.
Rylan headed into the library, getting evil glares from the librarian as he dripped water onto the floor. He gave her an apologetic smile. " Hey." He greeted Kasey, Morgan, and Aiden. He took a seat opposite Aiden, once again shaking water from his dark hair. " It's raining." He grinned, though it was obvious not only from his appearance but from one look out the window.

M o r g a n L 0 V E She asked, licking her lips. This was a strange question, because she was new herself. Ever since the "letter" came in to the mail followed by screams and a suspicion of pranksters ... Well, you know. She crossed her legs. Uncrossed them awkwardly, then crossing them again. Her stockings were like hell. So ... itchy. And it didn't do a thing for showing off her toned and long legs. Haha. Vain, much? "I love the rain." Morgan sighed dreamily. It was like a drum. And Morgan loved music. You could just drown yourself in it. Ahh ... "Your soaked!"She giggled, then saying, "Won't you take a seat, professer?"She fiddled her her tongue ring, foolishly trying to see if she could lick it in the provacy of her own mouth. Outside, it appeared like she was simply rubbing her tongue against her cheek. Ah, peircings! Weren't they just lovely for a women? [/ul]

Kasey felt her blush become even more severe. only, this time, it was serious. She knew that kid. Rylan. God, how embarrassing it was to have a fellow Ravenclaw see her ruin it for the rest of them! She squirmned in her seat, examining a wet Rylan, but giggled at the fact he was getting the same glares the librarian gave her.
She gave Rylan a flirtatious grin- trying to match the one her twin sister often gave. She gave a teensy wave with her fingers. "Um, hey, Rylan. What brings you here?" She inquired, ovbiously interested why the lot of people were gathering in the library.
Nearly everyone hated the library, except for those who really loved to study. Kasey just loved to read. Oh, God. Aiden and Rylan are both gorgeous... she thought, her face turning crimson. She tried to think of other things too cool herself down, but she couldnt. Just the fact she was getting points deducted from Ravenclaw and having her perfect excuse for a sister there, snickering at her every fault. Why did Morgan have to be so perfect? It was unfair. Kasey had to be the "troublemaker" and the "rebel" why everyone adored Morgan. Just a no good Hufflepufff... Thats what Morgan was, in Kasey's eyes. But Kasey didnt always see everything. And she heard Morgan's babbling about nothing, her perfect figure in her uniforim. Shutup Morgan...shutup Morgan..Shutup! She repeated in her mind, mocking her voice and perfection. Ugh

Aiden felt someone take the chair next to him and glanced up to see a soaking wet Rylan. Aiden let out a laugh, grinning from ear to ear. " Hey dude...Nice shower?" He joked, still snickering slightly. He and Rylan had met on the train when Rylan was a first year on his way to the school. Since then, they both had become good friends. Despite the fact they were in different houses and years. That was another thing Aiden liked about Hogwarts. There was always someone new around.
Aiden shook his head, crossing his arms over his chest. " Nope. I've been here a while." He smiled. " 6 years, actually." He added, noting that he was a 6th year. Wow. Six years seemed an awful long time, yet here, he never really took note of it. Hogwarts was his second home. " Just probably haven't seen my around because we're in both different houses and years. Not to mention, there's like a million other kids here." He grinned, shrugging his shoulders slightly. " What about you two? You new here? Or have you always been here?" He questioned curiously.
Aiden tilted back in his chair, balancing on back two legs. He noticed the librarian sending glares in their direction once again. " Hey Rylan... Maybe you should dry off. Librarian lady looks pissed that your dripping water on her precious floor." He grinned, nudging his friend in the side.

M o r g a n L 0 V E Shelicked her lips, flashing her tongue ring. God, she loved that thing. " We're fifteen, and now we're automatically here. We got our letter at the begining of the semester, actually."She nodded, agreeing with the information. She gazed at Rylan, rolling her eyes. "You know, I could get you a towel. You look awfully cold."She looked down at her white shirt. She would have been in trouble when outside in this baby. Big, big, big trouble. She yawned. Tired. But she didn't want to retire and leave these people. She opened her mouth and daintly covered it with her fingers, yawning so big her jaw cracked. It didn't hurt, just s lighty popping sound that always irratated her. [/ul]

Rylan laughed. " Yeah, man. Cause you know how I love taking showers in my clothing." He said sarcastically to Aiden, rolling his eyes. Rylan leaned back in his chair, making himself comfortable. He noticed the smile Kasey was giving him and shot back a flirty grin of his own. " Hey Kasey." He said smoothly. He shrugged his shoulders slightly. " Not sure really. I was gonna go back to the dorm and change, but then I saw you in here and changed my mind." He answered with a smile.
He nodded in agreement with Morgan. " Yeah, me too. I would have stayed outside, but I would have felt pretty loser-ish sitting in the rain by myself." He smiled. " And thanks...I noticed." He added with a laugh when she commented on him being soaked.
Rylan rung out the hem of his shirt, water pouring onto the library's carpeted floor. He ran a hand through his damp hair, making it look even more untidy and messier than usual. He heard Aiden's comment and allowed his blue eyed gaze to find the librarian. He smiled at her and waved sarcastically. " She can get over it." He commented with a grin. He looked back at Kasey and Morgan. They were both pretty girls...Actually...gorgeous was more like it.
