Will couldn't help but gape at Dax as he grew in size, it did feel just a little daunting, but Will knew that a larger target was far easier to hit though. In fact there was no way Dax would be able to shield himself fully now. Again narrowly dodging the spell flung at him he heard an intake of breath all around, and someone muttered "cor that was a close one." Will knew he was treading a thin line here and sooner or later one of Dax's hastily aimed spells would hit home. He barely heard Loren's conversation though it did interest him slightly he was just a little preoccupied at the minute. Will said calmly the jinx for tripping, and watched with satisfaction as the giant Dax began to topple.

As Dax looked at Will dodge the spell he gave a sigh, and as soon as Will’s spell hit him he had almost given up all fight. Allowing himself to fall backwards he felt pain spread through his body as the titles underneath him smashed under the weight and dug into his back. With a groan he did not move and just looked up at the enchanted sky. With a small flick of his wand Dax shrunk back to his normal size and pushed himself to sit up. Rubbing the back of his head he looked around the room trying to work out how he ever let this happen.
Wearily Dax stood back up, his legs wobbling due to exhaustion and the broken tiles. Tightening his grip on his wand Dax raised his arm ignoring the shooting pain that was rushing down it. “Petrificus Totalus” He aimed it straight at Wills chest, however he knew that the chances of it hitting were slim as Will always jumped out of the way.

Thankful his spell had worked with the desired effect, he was nonetheless surprsied that Dax's vigour and energy suddenly fled, and he seemed ready to give in, though he did wearily send a spell towards Will. It looked like the fight that had been thrust upon Dax was loosing it's appeal already. Will hadn't time to dodge the spell this time as pupils were bustled close to trying to push him back into the middle. Deflecting the spell with his defensive shield Will grinned wearily as maintaining such a strong shield took it out anybody. Will could see that Dax was on the back foot and aimed to defeat him quickly or else he might come back at him. Rushing to the side and keeping his distance he lowered his shield, breathing a sigh of relief that he didn't have to keep it up. Dodging another spell from Dax he breathed the words "Everte Statum" twice to send Dax flying... Praying his spells would hit as he had little energy left he waited with bated breath.

As Dax struggled to keep to his feet he watched Will run around full of energy, and then he sent a spell coming straight for him. Gritting his teeth Dax raised his wand and with a low mumble cast the best shield he could muster. "Protego” The shield took the hit and protected Dax, however he did not know there was another coming straight at him. With a groan the spell hit Dax square in the chest, his breath was took away from him and he went flying across the hall. His legs hit the odd student in the head and he only stopped when he found the hard, cold stone of the wall.
At a small heap at the bottom of the wall Dax managed to open his eyes and notice all the people around him looking, pointing and laughing. Dax had no strength in his body and it was painful even to breath. Dropping his wand he lay motionless on the floor wanting to fall into darkness.

Thankful that his attack had gotten under Dax's stout defences he advanced on him seemingly mencaingly, though in fact he hadn't intended it to be so. Saying in a icy cool voice that resounded around the now relatively silent hall except for the odd laugh and mutterings, "it's not a laughing matter people," the adrenaline that had pumped resolutely before and throughout the duel had kept him going and made him rash, now he regretted it and hoped he hadn't hurt is friend, though he knew Dax was tougher than he looked. Lowering his wand though ready still to use it if necessary he moved over to Dax hurriedly to help him to his feet, and of course also take Dax's acceptance of defeat. "Over so soon mate? Heart just not in it?" he asked sympathetically now.

Dax felt himself being pulled to his feet and he could hear Will talking in the background. Slowly opening his eyes Dax could only see blurs around him. He was not in the mood for Will’s jokes today, not after what he just did. Trying to muster as much strength as he could Dax pushed himself away form Will, he wobbled a little and then forced his eyes to focus on the Gryffindor.
“Of course my heart was never in it. This was your battle Will, not mine. Your arrogance and your deceit forced you to be incompetent to truly allow your feelings for Sophie be shown. I have been caught up in your whirlpool of emotions and now…now I will receive the blame for your lack of ability to successful woo a member of the opposite sex.”
Dax took a deep breath trying to calm down his emotions. His voice had started to waver and the sting of tears once again threatened. Dax knew now that this duel had turned from one of magic to one of words.

Dax's words stung deep, it almost felt like a dagger in the back, thankfully Will could cover up his emotions when necessary. Twilring his wand in his fingers he couldn't even summon up the energy to laugh and Dax's high words, because they had hit home at the truth. "I think we're forgetting your own issue here Dax, why I am solely to blame? I never made you go kiss Soph, it's as much your fault that I'm put in this situation. As for showing emotions why don't you just accept that you quite obviously love Loren?" He said his voice now hushed somewhat, though unluckily he hadn't noticed someone put a spell over their voices to make them audible to all to hear. "Tell ya what mate, I'll show my true emotions if you show yours. Oh and I can woo people, thankyou very much." He stood now with hands on hips smiling more pleasantly now at Dax.

Dax stood open mouthed as Will fought back form Dax’s mini speech. When Will mentioned about the kiss Dax felt his heart sink a little. It was stupid of him to do, but still he had his reasons. Dax’s fists clenched as he watched on as Will continued to rant away. Then he mentioned Loren. He had to bring Loren into it. Adrenaline rushed through Dax’s body and with ever step he took closer to Will he felt stronger. ‘Tell ya what mate, I'll show my true emotions if you show yours’
That was the invitation Dax needed. Rising his arm, his heart thumping Dax let go of his fist and sent it flying into Will’s face, hitting him straight on the nose.
“So what if I care of Loren. Why shouldn’t I? You are pathetic, anyone in this hall can see that. Sophie can do better then you simply by dating a ghost!”

Will didn't have time nor the wits to duck the fist, with a loud crack his nose quite obviously broke, answering back quickly before the blood that streamed down his face blocked his power of speech entirely he said altogether calmly still "did I say you loving Loren was a problem?" It seemed Dax had got the wrong end of the stick entirely. Blood now came more freely but Will didn't care, people grumbled that he should fight back against Dax, but the tables had turned within an instant and Will had lost the will to fight a muggle brawl. As blood now ceased his power to articulate coherently he carried on regardless "you be de tupid Axe" But now for the first time doubt seeped into his mind, and he wondered what people did really think of him, pushing his self doubts roughly aside never to be dwelled upon again he gingerly felt his nose trying unsuccessfully to stem the blood. Seeming rather pathetic as Dax had so recently stated he simply stumbled to the ground, but his true aim had succeeded, tears now watered in Sophie's eyes and Will winked at Dax, he had always been a crafty bugger had William Harris. He would have the last laugh.

Post by Loren Hayes on Feb 18, 2007 12:41:50 GMT
Tears had welled up in Loren's eyes so thick that she could hardly see what was happening - and for that she was very grateful. The two of them had relentless fought against each other, trying to take the other down in some defiant act that had nothing to do with winning the duel itself. Their magical voices echoed in the cavernous room, and upon hearing her name and the words uttered by the two of them, an miserable sob jumped out of her throat. She had been trying so hard to keep everything in, but now uneven chokes and light moans heaved from her uncontrollably, and she furiously wiped at her cheeks and eyes not wanting anyone to see the impossible amount of tears rolling down them. Several people had moved away from her, her hysterics so severe she seemed beyond comfort.
A ripple of shouts passed over the crowd, and Loren looked through her hands to see deep red blood pouring over Will's mouth and chin, the crimson of it clearly staining his scarlet robes. Loren gasped and clasped a hand over her mouth. Of all the terrors or hexes and spells, that single muggle act seemed to outdo anything a witch or wizard could do with a wand.
Loren could see the Gryffindor girl, Soph, standing on the other side of the crowd, a group of friends gathered around as she too was crying. Rage swelled in Loren, and for a moment she considered starting her own battle, but upon Will falling to his knees and the fight seemingly over, Loren reluctantly strode to where the two boys stood, her fists clenched in unstoppable emotion. 'How dare you!' She screamed at both of them, her voice so loud it silenced half the hall. She rounded on Dax. 'How dare you tell him how you feel about me! How DARE you be such a coward! WHY COULDN'T YOU SAY IT TO ME?!'
Drawing back her hand, Loren slapped him harder than she had ever struck anyone before in her life, the crack of her palm against his cheek so strong it could be heard above the roars. ' Your precious "Soph" is crying by the way. I suggest you go and kiss it better.'
With that Loren pushed past him, her lonely sobs echoing long after she had disappeared out the door.

Dax stood and watched Will sit on the floor, then over his shoulder he heard someone approach. There stood Loren, her eyes blood shot, her face glistening with tears. Dax could not explain what he was feeling, her face was so full of anger and fear filled him, but then her eyes were full of sorrow and pain. Dax’s breathing started to go haywire. He would take deep breaths followed by a series of short sharp intakes.
Then Loren’s voice filled the air around him, the tone of her voice were like arrows piercing his heart. As Loren screamed the last point Dax could do nothing but try to fight off the sudden rush of dizziness followed by the urge to be sick. This however soon passed as Loren’s hand came crashing into the side of his face. Stunned and off balance Dax fell to the floor. Slowly opening his eyes he saw Loren storm out.
“LOREN!!! Loren wait.”
As she went through the door, he could hear laughing in the distance of the crowds around them as they slowly began to disperse. He hoped Loren would come back. He did not care if it was to slap him again he wanted to say sorry, to say how he truly felt.

Will was quite frankly astounded by Loren's overreaction, though with hindsight he should have known that would have happened. But there was some consolation, he hadn't made quite such an ass of himself as Dax had, well he didn't think so anyway. Cradling his head in his arms, all he could really see was red, from the vivid red impression on Dax's bruning cheek, to his own blood dripping from his nose onto his formerly just dirty robes. Mumbling seemingly to himself he raised unsteadily to his feet, and tottered over to Dax, "dun 'orry waa'nt it ya Axe." He clutched him wildly to stop him running after Loren "ate til alm," spitting out some blood from his mouth he tried again "wait til both calm." Due to his present condition his chuckle sounded rather more like a roar. "Women eh?" He stated as if that solved everyhting summing it up nicely.

Jonathan had continued to watch the spectacle with raised eyebrows, nodding every now and then when a spell or move particularly impressed him. He knew that he should probably be rushing into the Great Hall, shouting at the top of his lungs for all spectators to give it a rest and for the two boys to get their backsides to his office now, but the whole thing was far too facinating.
Upon the Ravenclaw girl entering the fight and seemingly destroying any focus that was upon the two boys alone, Jonathan decided it was time to step in. Females could be uncommonly nasty when they were angry enough.
With the best look of fury he could managed, Jonathan burst into the hall, the door slamming against the stone wall so that all eyes suddenly turned on him. 'What in Merlin's name is going on here?!' He roared, striding round the table, his robes billowing behind him. The students who had not yet disbanded were now clamoring over each other to exit the hall before they could be implicated as having anything to do with the duel, cheering or otherwise. Only a few students strong in their innocence lingered to see what would occur.
'Simmons! Harris!' Jonathan shouted as he reached them, having picked up Will's name from the chanting. He roughly grabbed the two of them by the scruff of their collars, pulling them into place. 'Hope you had fun, boys, because you're going to be spending the next week with me in detention! NOW WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ALL ABOUT?! You'll be a bloody apprentice soon, Simmons! Do you think you can carry on breaking kids noses after that?! He yelled in disbelief.
The swell of happiness that usual bloomed in Jonathan whenever he got to reprimand students filled him, and he waited patiently to be filled in on whatever gossip had created such a riot...

Dax groaned as the Professor marched in towards them. This was going to end badly. Giving Will a short glance Dax struggled as the Professor started to drag them away. As the Professor shouted at them Dax tired to think of soothing to say that would not make things worse. “I’m not an apprentice yet Sir. Just a simple student.” He gave a nervous laugh but soon silenced himself as he saw the glare in Professor Starsmore eyes. Trying to get out of the Professor grip, Dax began to struggle and lets out a small groan of pain from what must be a broken rib.
“It was this muppets fault anyway. He was the one who challenged me to a duel. What was I meant to do? Walk away. That would have been dishonourable"

Will jumped visibly as eventually the inevitable teacher appeared bawling at the top of their voice, he really wasn't deaf, and he did indeed feel like telling him that information. But thankfully to save his won skin he still had sufficient wit to hold his tongue. Biting it hard and almost producing more blood. Spitting blood and at least having the grace to look sorry for it he mumbled through the blood "ee wont accept ee loves err. Bu a buel is albays bun!" he exclaimed with a grin. Realising he couldn't coherently come up with a good excuse he cursed himself for his bad luck and hung his head in mock shame, all the while grinning insanely still.
