Apronia frowned at him, keeping her face smooth but mentally adding and subtracting. "Beh," she stared seriously at the rest of the staff members. "I must quite seriously insist that he is the only one. The danger is too great." She nodded sharply at the professor and the two exited together, heading for the forest.

Angelo, the Siberian Husky, burst into the room. Panting. He barked at the professors gathered there. Why won't they come and help his master? Can't they understand that his master is in danger?
He saw or rather he sensed the scent of Eithne, the woman with whom his master had tea. He ran over to her, and placed his paws in her lap, his eyes looking at hers. Please help him... please? He said your name, that's the only name he said. Angelo whimpered at Eithne again. And jumped down from her lap and made for the door, came back and jumped in her lap and then down and waited for her to follow.

"By Morgaine La Fey!" Prof. l'keitha sighed, stroking Angelo on the head. "What's wrong? I'll bet you're master's in trouble, huh? Has he gone and gotten himself into a mess, huh? Hasn't he, boy? That bloody dolt..."
She stood up and left the staff room, visibly irritated, but deep down, worried out of her mind.

(OOC: Ethelion, sorry about the pigheadedness comment. I belatedly realized that it could be taken as a comment from RL me about RL you, which it's not. It's merely that Apronia is required by her X chromosome and inferiority complex to think that male displays of dominance are pointless and counterproductive. ^_^)
Apronia was so furious that little bits of her were beginning to disassociate. Of course she was worried about the Professors, but more than that, she was angry that no one had thought to ask her to help. They were her grounds, and in some obscure way, she felt as if the Forest was her domain also. The Professors running willy-nilly through the trees were disturbing the carefully wrought peace with the centaurs and certain other magical creatures. Studying the notes of the previous keepers, she was beginning to see how little credit they received for what was truly a delicate, diplomatic job. Maybe the key has something to do with it, she thought. I hope Ethelion has kept it safe.
She slapped down a few molecules that were drifting in the direction of the Professor at her elbow. "Peccato!" she cursed under her breath. "What is the point of having a groundskeeper if she is not allowed to keep the grounds?" her voice dropped even more softly, a gentle whisper to herself. "They could at least have the courtesy to tell me, I would stop wasting my time and concentrate on my experiments."
(OOC again: I haven't actually managed to conduct formal introductions with anyone, and have been referring to people by their names for reasons of mutual comprehension. Can I actually meet people?)

Sitting there, listening to the heated discussion, Leigh folded his arms. He was there, remaining quiet in his chair. he listened to the arguments about the great evil. He felt it, felt all the severities that come with been the Defense Against the Dark Art's teacher. He opened his eyes and spoke firmly.
"We will do what we must." He spoke, suddenly hushing to rest of the room. "If the evil comes forth to attack us head on, we will defend ourselves. We may not be allowed into the forest as wizards, but those of us that have an Animagus form we can enter into the centuars domain. Evil lurks at any corner, remember that. We will do, what we will do." He closed his eyes, and became quiet. Then he had another thought. "I often go into the forest at night for patrolling. I feel it's an unspoken duty by me. I go in as my tiger animagus, and scope it out. In fact, I'm going tonight. Professor Eriksson, perhaps you and Angelo would like to join me? Two more keen senses of smell's would be better than my own."

(OOC: Is Prof Eriksson back yet...?)
Apronia ground her teeth further. Everyone invading and patrolling HER forest. When would it end? How would she ever repair the relations between the inhabitants of forest and castle? They didn't even know what they were dealing with yet! She assumed her most haughty sneer.
"Ah yes, why don't you just go flouncing into the forest as tigers and lions? As if this is not conspicuous in the least! I am telling you the centaur situation is grave, but surely you must know better given your extensive diplomatic contact with the 3 centaur herds, the Acromantula tribe, the 8 Hinkypunks, the vampire clan, the 2 unicorn herds, the Hippogriff groups, the winged horses..." a list of creatures of the forest came pouring out of her without her intervention, some ancient magic of Hogwarts using her lips. She bit them closed, took a deep breath, and resumed her ruffled, indignant speech. "You must realize the forest is very delicate. The Dark Magic occuring there will affect it in ways that we cannot imagine. It is already almost alive, the very earth will begin to twitch and shift! You do not understand the theory of this type of being. The trees, the animals...all are part of a magical web. Every spell cast in there has incalcuable effect. Have any of you studied Magical Chaos Theory? The damage could be catastrophic! Would you rather a crater where the Forest once stood? That is why it is Forbidden. Even Voldemort did not dare venture there too often, for fear of self-immolation. If you would like to help, do a better job of containing your reckless students." she frowned. "The Forest accepts my presence because I..." she paused, scowling for a moment, "I am magically challenged. I am no great witch or wizard as all of you." Her hand fluttered like a frail bird, gesturing to all of them. "I see the lines of power, I know intimately spell construction, I could tell you the theory behind the coalescence of the universe! But I can fight your wand-happy sentiments with only my weak words." she said at last, and turned to leave, a defeated slump in her shoulders.

Rainer did his best to listen though his concentration was with the forest where surely...? He didn't know what to think, all of this touched by some familiarity of feeling he could not identify. Apronia was right of course, he thought to himself, watching Eithene and Ethelion slowly cross the grounds to the school. "Are you...?" Rainer began, thinking loudly in to the atmosphere of thoughts. Surely if he was...he'd answer me? Nothing. Of course not, Dummkopf. Rainer stepped away from the window, embarassed and scared for having thought that just maybe- He walked out, intent on visiting Moncrieff.

"Apronia, it is a good deed for us to go in as our Animagus forms. We will not be upsetting the difficult balance that the Forest has. We'll simply be scoping it out, trying to find it's source. We can beat this thing without any help from the Ministry." Leigh said, his voice slowly becoming more confident. "I haven't had a chance to teach the student's how to defend themselves against Dark Wizards. For all we know, some of them right now are under the Imperious curse. Bad times are ahead of us, we need to take any action that is necessary, even if it means unsettling the forest. The Centaurs you say, are on the brink of war with us. Do they even realise that we mean them no harm and only trying to extinguish the evil that lurks there?"

Apronia stiffened, one hand on the door. "You cannot feel the balance of the Forest as I do. And perhaps the centaurs are ready to go to war with us because we intrude on their territory, we come in unannounced and armed, we dismiss them outright, perform magic on them. If the centaurs were to come into the castle, use magic against a Professor, and rifle through the Headmistress's belongings, claiming to mean us no harm, who among you would be the first to forgive them?" She glared around the circle of Professors, holding each of their eyes. No one met her gaze for long. "Which one?" she demanded again. "Even those Muggles have more respect for borders. The records tell us this happened time and time again, always to the persecution and death of many centaurs. They are waiting for history to repeat itself once more, and none of you are offering any indication that this cycle will be different." she turned away, letting her last words drift like a cloud of snow over her shoulder. "Justify it to yourselves however you like, but I will never again be on the side of oppressors."
She makes sure the Staff Room door slammed loudly shut behind her. Her mind flows over trees and magic and a golden key, blood and pleading eyes. Her fist clenches. Not again.
